Here's my thinking - you're not gonna become moderator by wanting it. If you want to be moderator, you're already disqualified for having a strong feeling for the forums that is sure to carry into your judgement. All of the current moderators I can think of don't have too much of an attachment to people and the forum from what it sounds like and if they do, it's expressed in a way that's not so heavy-handed. Having strong opinions and strong convictions causes trouble, and even worse, drama.

It depends tho, strong opinions and convictions are only harmful if improperly channeled, provided such things are kept out of the way in the course of duty, I don't see why it would prove a disqualification. Well, if you end up like Max and try to use your authority to push your views on other people and harass folks who think those views are stupid, then ofc things are going to go south.
Then again, it's not always possible to tell if somebody's going to become a good mod or a bad mod when the shiny green name's given to them. The position itself can change people, if not immediately, then over time. Good poster ≠ good mod, and it can even happen the other way round in a few cases. Even better's when a bad poster becomes a mod (like our pal rusty) and then winds up as a bad mod.
