Not a big anime person but I've seen how popular this show has been with fucking everyone so I bit the bullet and powered through it in a week. I'd say this was my first real anime.

I have to say, it was good mindless fun. It was incredibly shallow and predictable (I correctly guessed the plot twist with Satsuski before I even watched it, for example,) but you know I didn't mind that really because the show just didn't take itself seriously. It was goofy fun. Mako was really the soul of the show in a lot of ways, it was her humor that got me through all the "Oh, come the fuck on" moments which happened virtually every episode because of how fast and lose they play with the rules. Even the blatant nudity wasn't as bad as I thought in context (except for whenever Ragyo was around Satsuki which was just creepy.)

I enjoyed that unironically. It was just a bunch of fun for the sake of having fun.

Yea, I am glad you didn't take it too seriously, though there are some animes with damn good storylines that you should probably check out. (FMA:brohood, cowboy bebop, TTGL, etc)

Definitely check out GITS. My all time favorite manga/anime franchise. The first film is my favorite of the series.
