Her hair wasn't really rainbow, more like it was "glowing" from the life fibers in her me thinks. It is why ryuko has a slash of red in her hair and why more red appears in her hair when she is merged with sam ketchup.
Also explains why Satsuki has normal hair.

Eh all I am saying is that the dad had normal hair and had no life fibers in him, and satsuki has normal hair and no life fibers in here. Both Ryuko and Mcdaughterbanger have hair the changes regularly when in contact with life fibers. Also ryukos red hairs were the ones that cut the life fibers controlling her brain, and as we known only hardened life fibers can cut other life fibers.

Did they ever say why Satsuki and Ragyo had light emitting from them? You could say ~[i]life fibers[/i]~ but that doesn't explain Satsuki's light.
I always thought Satsuki had a group of students following her around with spotlights.

I always figured it was a metaphor for her presence. You know how sometimes when someone walks into a room and they just have a mysterious air around them, of confidence and power? I figured it was a way of representing that.
Then again everyone else's light is shown to be actually there so what do I know. Maybe it just works like that in their universe, someone's own natural personality can just "shine."

Only available on DVD but you can find them online probably.
I do hope the second OST is released standalone as well as in the Bluray package.
