I actually understand why you don't understand, because before it happened to me I didn't understand either. It's just one of those situations that takes being there before you can fully grasp it.
I'm not going to go on about my own experience because frankly I don't want to think about it anymore, but basically, abusers get inside your head. They find what makes you happy, show it to you, and then hold it hostage from you until you do what they want. Even if you [I]know[/I] at the time that what you're doing isn't right, like shutting out your own friends, you still hold onto that happiness that the person showed you, and the hope that you'll get that happiness if you stick with them. You start to get into this warped mindset that the good in the relationship is so good that it's worth the tremendous amount of bad. You start to think that this person is the only person that can give you that happiness. They know this and they exploit it to keep their grip on you, even when you try to escape.
I typed more, but I cut it because I'm trying not to make this too long or make it about my own deal. I know the explanation was probably still confusing, but it's like I said: hard to understand unless you've been there. It's just not as easy as getting up and walking away.
