But I think they have the most lenses available and the best too.
A Canon user told me that more lenses fit Canon bodies than Nikon, but I'm sure that's only true because the lenses are cheaper. Also, the lenses that I've seen used on Canon bodies don't have the same quality than others. They are usually made out of cheaper materials and like what was said above, use plastic instead of glass. This creates a lot lighter lenses and cheaper lenses, but a lot less quality. The lenses that I use come from my mom's ooooold Nikon SLR. I mean this thing was so old that the strap that came attached to the camera is all hippie looking and shit. They work fantastic. Never had a problem with them.
Hmm, from the last few posts I have been leaning toward a good Nikon. Possibly a D90.
D90 is a great camera, I had a go with it at jessops, has a really good feel to it.

Glad I could help out. As far as buying in any technology line, its best to spend now and buy ahead of the curve. You get support for much longer this way (repair wise that is.) D40 and D60 are now discontinued. D60 and D3000 are essentially the same camera, the D3000 has a "guide" setting. D5000 is the first in the product line to get HD video, jump in mega pixels, ext. D90 is the current top "consumer" camera. (Think back to when the D40 was top of the line.) D300 and D300s bridge the gap between "consumer" cameras and "pro" cameras. Tons of control, also pricey. I'm working off of my stock, sorry about leaving some models out. D90 is a great platform, I'm sure you'll be happy with one! Dpreview.com is a great reference site if you want in-depth reviews.
If lens selection is a problem, just remember this: Quality over quantity. When you're paying several hundred dollars for a lens, you don't want it to be a POS.
What exactly are you implying? There's lots of cheap and good lenses running for both Canon and Nikon, however I don't know much about Sony so I couldn't say.
I don't recommend them right now because its sort of strange to jump in with a new guy when there are already three giants that do what they do extremely well (before you rage against the corporate machine, note that I said they do it very well.). -Canon's service might suck but they are on top of sales world wide because they've already got the product right (and advertising). -Nikon has a reputation miles long for product quality, they have been a favourite of professional photographers for ages, even adopting a cult following among spec. freaks of old and new. -Pentax is still kicking, if not on centre stage, thanks to their backwards compatibility preserving customer loyalty. They produce excellent products, but their consumer dSLRs lagged behind for awhile (pretty much caught up now, just need some solid advertising to build up again). Combine that with the fact that Sigma and Tamron also fill the small holes in Canon, Nikon, and Pentax's lines, the big guys have everything pretty much worked out. Trying to keep up with Canon and Nikon's progress, and head start, is like jumping onto a very fast treadmill, even if you don't fall on your face its gonna take awhile to catch your pace. Remember that these guys have so many features stockpiled they could turn out great new cameras and designs quarterly. Sony cameras aren't bad by any stretch, but buying into a product line with a limited selection of lenses neuters the effective output of your SLR. Why buy a camera thats point is to have a extremely wide range of abilities, if you don't have access to them. Like I said, thats the only big downfall I see with the brand right now, but its enough to drop it from my recommendation spec. wise. I always try to keep lots of doors open for my customers, sticking with those guys preserves a lot of possibilities. Personally, a camera is a camera, you can do a lot with just a little. I do.

Just because they are the top on sales and are good advertisers doesn't make the product better. I'm sure you know that better than me. I use a D80 with two Sigma lenses from my mom's old SLR and I couldn't love them more. Canon has good cameras, but I would be I more comfortable with a Nikon because I know I'll get something great for the price I paid.

And to be honest. I hate how Nikons have so many 6mp cameras. Like get real. 6mp is a lot but I don't think it's enough... The crop factor is total shit because of it.
I do like the Nikon D90, it's got everything I could and it seems great for low light shooting with minimal noise at higher ISO's.
I would go for a D80 just because it's CCD and not CMOS
Wow, that was the most optimistic post I've ever seen on Facepunch.
I didn't want to cause a flame war in the first thread I posted in in months. I agree completely that Nikon is in general better quality stuff.
I would go for a D80 just because it's CCD and not CMOS
CMOS of today are extremely similar to CCD. Not enough of a noticable difference. unless maybe it's a 21megapixel camera which is pretty stupid IMO
Too much bias itt. You will be good with whatever DSLR you pick, probably. I personally recommend canon of course because that's what I use and am happy with, however you will have comparable results with a Nikon or Sony although Sony's lens market is currently limited.
CMOS of today are extremely similar to CCD. Not enough of a noticable difference. unless maybe it's a 21megapixel camera which is pretty stupid IMO
I'm gonna make a 100megapixel camera.
I'm gonna make a 100megapixel camera.
The human eye is 500+ 'megapixels' but nothing could show 100mp maybe a 1000000" tv lol.
hey man i have a d90 and i love it, ill just show some pictures i took with it so far so you can see what you think. i shot them in RAW then exported them to pngs through photoshop These first pictures were taken with an iso between 2500 and 3200 at a show i was at while standing in the middle of the crowd with no flash i dont remember which one was taken with which iso, there was some post processing done because they had red lights on the people and i had to do some stuff in lightroom, but just let this be like a low light shooting example here are some pictures i took recently at 200 iso with about 13 second shutter speed with my d90. absolutely no post processing, these are taken straight off my camera through lightroom and uploaded directly onto my DA in the end, just try out different cameras, and let the right camera find you. dont be persuaded by name brands or anything like that, just go with what works for your own personal needs
The human eye is 500+ 'megapixels' but nothing could show 100mp maybe a 1000000" tv lol.
Was a joke.
Was a joke.
Yea, But I think there is really an 100MP camera.
Sony bought out Minolta. Sony's DSLR camera division is basically the old Minolta staff and factories. As you are probably aware being a salesmen, Minolta is a rather large and productive name in the SLR business. In fact, 80% of Sony's lenses are just old Minolta's with new labels. So they're new in look, but not in deep down inside. Other fun fact: Sony is the largest share-holder in Tamron. Sorry, I don't want to seem like I'm spewing fanboyism. I'm just trying to educate. :geno:
I'm aware of a lot of things. I'm aware that Minolta was a rather large and productive name in the SLR business. From your failure to use past tense I'm willing to guess you're not aware of a few things. Minolta was awesome, they did make great SLRs. Hell, they dominated a good portion of the SLR market. I own a x-700 and I still get it out every now and then. The thing is, Minolta didn't do very well in the dSLR business. They sold some to loyal customers, and a few in the new market, but in the end they didn't handle the jump so well. They got into digital late, and suffered for it. Then they lost a ton of money in a lawsuit when they stepped on another companies toes. They had to cut back productions after these untimely losses, ended up eliminating their film product line, and then when that wasn't enough, they finally withered up and called it quites. I'm aware of plenty of things about Minolta's tragic end, and that they were never great with digital. Whatever you need to justify your purchase, man, you go ahead and do it. I wont argue with you.
