Wear gloves because getting shot in the finger is basically worse than anything else.
Aim for the head
I'll take any hit I can get.
Just have fun, don't worry about tactics and everything, as long as you have fun it's cool.
So my friend is turning 16 tomorrow and we're going to play paintball, So I have some questions about what I should expect.

What should I wear? Anything in particular?

How many paint balls should I buy? My friends brother, who has played once previously ,suggested 1000, but knowing him I think he'd be a bit trigger happy going by his personality.

Will I get bruised like some people have said I will?

Does it hurt when the paintballs hit you? I know I'll feel it, but will I be in much pain?

Any tips for playing?

Is air soft the same thing as paintball?
Any serious answers much appreciated
1. Depending on the temperature, jeans, t-shirt, and a long-sleeve shirt or hoodie over that. If its hot just wear jeans and a t-shirt.
2. Just get a fair amount, enough to fill the ammo holder a few times.
3. Yea, you'll get bruised some. But they aren't noticeable.
4. No. It feels like somebody pinching you, then a little tightness afterward.
5. If its your first time, stay close to some experienced players, hide, don't get shot.
6. No, Airsoft is very different than paintball.
I think it's a cross between prowl and prone.
or a horrible typo.
:eng101: Prone
When the round starts, try and set up a teleporter outside your base. your team will love you for it.
1. Just wear whatever, you'll be given overall
2. 200 per round should do if you're not a trigger happy.
3. Light bruises at long range, nice big purple bruises for close range. Paintballs go at about 250 feet per second.
4. There will be pain.
5. Stick with a group
6. From what I hear airsoft hurts less and its more realistic.
Trust me: don't risk getting shot in the balls.

1) I've always been told to wear baggy clothing. Supposedly the paintballs have a harder time breaking on baggy clothes. I don't know how true that is though. I've never actually tried it myself.
2) I usually buy paintballs in sets of 500, that way if I need more, I can get them. But I shouldn't ever have more than I need.
3) You will get bruises. It's almost guaranteed. There's a rule at the place I play that you don't shoot within 20 feet, to stop from hurting people. But it will still leave a mark.
4) The paintballs will hurt at first, but you'll get used to it. Unless someone pretty much shoots at point blank, it won't hurt after a while. The first time I got shot, it hurt. But after that, it's more of "aww man I got shot" or it just scares you.
5) Run. Learn to run. And don't shoot and run at the same time unless you have really good aim, a steady hand, and good prediction skills. Otherwise it's going to be a waste of ammo. And make sure that if you're taking cover, you are completely covered, and that there is no one that will potentially shoot you anywhere in your line of site. Unless you're shooting at them, that is.
6) The only thing that I can think of that Airsoft would prepare you for in paintball is aiming or hiding. Otherwise, it's pretty different. The guns are heavier, the shots hurt more (unless you were using huge airsoft pellets) But both are fun in their own ways.
Hope this helps. This is all written from my own experience, so expect it to be a little different for you.

It really depends on the airsoft gun, I have a friend whose airsoft gun has drawn blood. I've never seen a paintball do that.
Oh my god it's paintball, don't get hit, wear a mask, don't bitch and call people cheaters, believe it or not, there is no noclip in real life, you're just a big target.
Ok, after having done it;
Thighs bruised
Got shot in the hand and it started bleeding (suggest gloves for anyone going in the future)
Paint balls that don't explode certainly hurt much more
I didn't feel every paintball that hit me
Flanking is very important
It's worth buying extra balls
Try shooting out of both sides of cover, it makes you harder to hit. Was against a wall, shot twice from one side, spun around and shot from the other side, he didn't expect me there.
Being Trigger Happy is better than being too conservative.
Too late :(
Just make sure not to go Rambo.

Anyone with any tactical knowledge would know this.
I went Rambo and it worked, 'killed' three people with no cover, legged it up to them and rapid fired at them.
That sounds great. If you want to be really good with a paintball gun, bring a real gun and use that. It's much better designed for shooting, and it hurts more too.
just remember humans have the same agressive reactions as dogs, if you run away from them they will chase you, your best bet is to charge at them screaming that way you scare them off it works for me everytime. i have never lost a paintball match :D
"Okay, this guy is totally not ready... Wait... OHSHI--"
*baff*
"... Well, that's gonna hurt tomorrow..."
Personal experience.
I've paintballed for two years and airsoft for three, the pain aspect is very similar. It really doesn't hurt much unless you get shot in the hand, ear, etc.
shoot the bad guys

I got that in one round, sort of..
"Ok, I see a guy over in the tree's aiming at that guy over there, He'll never see me *brings up marker to aim*
BLAP!
Turns out someone else was saying the same thing as me 20 metre's away..

Hand was very painful, and my friend said his ear was pretty sore.

One of my my allies managed to shoot me in the back of the head..
Just wear normal clothes, i go Re-balling which is basically paintball (they use paintball guns) but the balls don't explode becuase they are made of rubber.
I once ran too far ahead of the battle line and received:
-1 shot to the knee, dropping me to my back
-2 shots to the left testicle, bringing me to tears of pain
-1 fucking hacker got me in the throat. UNDER THE HELMET.
I was so disorientated that I stood up without calling dead and got shot in the body a couple more times before falling through the fence and escaping.
i love paintball

You get used to it.
Been paintballing once and it doesn't hurt until you get shot in the neck. Unlikely, but keep an eye out for that.
