Even if God did supposedly have something to do with the words given to put in the bible, the church chose what is put into the bible. And that bleeding thing doesn't always work. Some girls just don't.
2000 years late. You probably didn't hear about a guy called Jesus and 12 disciples, did you? Well, they wrote some interesting stuff. And although old testament is still part of bible, the new testament should be fully superior for all Christians in decisions. No true Christian should even think about stoning anybody. Of course, there are Christians who interpret the the bible differently, but we also have people who interpret american constitution which would make universal healthcare impossible.
"god didnt write the bible"
Jesus acknowledges the bible as the word of god
This is brilliant.
Jesus acknowledges the bible as the word of god
oh really, where'd you read that? in the bible?
oh really, where'd you read that? in the bible?
i'm not a Christian, i'm just saying if you believe in the bible 100% like a good Christian you take it as the word of god, so the old testament still counts
i'm not a Christian, i'm just saying if you believe in the bible 100% like a good Christian you take it as the word of god, so the old testament still counts
a good christian would follow the teachings of christ which are documented in the new testament (which even then is circumspect what with being re-written by the romans and all)
a good christian would follow the teachings of christ which are documented in the new testament (which even then is circumspect what with being re-written by the romans and all)

Matthew 5:17-19 (King James Version) 17Think not that I am come to destroy the law (as in the old testament), or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Eh, i don't know. it's all very contradictory since you have this too (http://bible.cc/hebrews/8-13.htm) which contradicts ^^^
and heres where i reiterate, that god did not write the bible nor did jesus.
hmm, you win, you're right
oh really, where'd you read that? in the bible?
There aren't a lot of other places to read about Jesus.
There aren't a lot of other places to read about Jesus.
all i'm saying is, the bible was written by man therefore it is fallible and to take every piece of it 100% seriously is ridiculous, which is why no christians do and which is why it's a feeble way to attack christianity. it also says in the bible that the 2 most important laws are to 1. love god and 2. to love all people but noone makes threads about that huh?
i saw this on reddit

As they were all dead when they were written.

I'm just confused as to how one can pick out what verses are true and what ones are false and then still believe so strongly as to wage wars over this belief.
Some people take the Bible way too literally, making it seem horrible. The bible is a book of metaphors with many meanings
Funnily enough, very few Christians follow that as well.
according your logic, those two laws might as well be bullshit written by some random dude, and yes it is actually a perfectly fine way to attack christianity, since the basis of the religion is the bible in its entirety and not the cherry-picked passages of whatever countless bastardizations the religion has spawned
the basis of christianity is a belief in the divinity of jesus christ and the acceptance of him as your personal saviour.
people start wars not religion. human flaws can twist any belief system no matter what it's teachings entail.
And an all powerful and all-knowing God lets this happen. Why is God so evil?
the basis of christianity is a belief in the divinity of jesus christ and the acceptance of him as your personal saviour.
So why is there so much other stuff in the Good Book? Why make it confusing like that?
And an all powerful and all-knowing God lets this happen. Why is God so evil? So why is there so much other stuff in the Good Book?
the basis of christianity is a belief in the divinity of jesus christ and the acceptance of him as your personal saviour.
According to your own version of the religion, not the actual religion:
Christianity is a monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth as presented in canonical gospels and other the New Testament writings

Chris·tian·i·ty noun \ˌkris-chē-ˈa-nə-tē, ˌkrish-, -ˈcha-nə-, ˌkris-tē-ˈa-\ Definition of CHRISTIANITY 1 : the religion derived from Jesus Christ, based on the Bible as sacred scripture, and professed by Eastern, Roman Catholic, and Protestant bodies

According to your own version of the religion, not the actual religion:
based and basis aren't the same thing.
im not god why would i know why he does anything. take into account that the bible was written thousands of years ago, they kinda had a penchant for the absurd back then.
Right, so why should we believe it thousands of years later?
based and basis aren't the same thing.
alright, so my semantics were flawed, here is your edited version: according your logic, those two laws might as well be bullshit written by some random dude, and yes it is actually a perfectly fine way to attack christianity, since the religion is based on the bible in its entirety and not the cherry-picked passages of whatever countless bastardizations the religion has spawned
Right, so why should we believe it thousands of years later?
why? what do you mean, noones forcing you to, if someone else chooses to why should you attack them over it? [editline]8th December 2010[/editline]
alright, so my semantics were flawed, here is your edited version: according your logic, those two laws might as well be bullshit written by some random dude, and yes it is actually a perfectly fine way to attack christianity, since the religion is based on the bible in its entirety and not the cherry-picked passages of whatever countless bastardizations the religion has spawned
as i said, you don't need to believe in the bible to be a christian. i only pointed out those two laws because people always seem to look at the bad parts of the bible and never the good. i can't really defend it as it is a very old book and a product of it's (quite barbaric) times but that doesn't mean it's all bad.
God doesn't exist.
I remember the bit where the man offers up his wife or concubine to be raped to death as opposed to his male guest. Not sure how it goes down exactly, but pretty interesting
God doesn't exist.
he does for christians.
