Think the Bible's rape laws were too confusing? Don't worry, there's a flowchart now!

"hurr its only metaphorical and you have to interpret it for yourself"

because catholicism = christianity right
Yes it is?
Two things I would like to point out. First, that chart is wrong:
22:24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.
That is to say, if a man had intercourse with a woman and she did not resist or try to seek help.
Second, why do any of you atheists care? I get the impression that all you do is come here - usually without any decent understanding of the religion - and just aim to stir up trouble.

One thing I'd like to point out. First and only, your version is wrong compared to my totally correct version
23 If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, 24 you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the young woman because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man’s wife. You must purge the evil from among you.
Mhm.
And we care because we like to make fun of religion and what it promotes.

Also,
"hey my name is god i'm going to give you this book on how to live life and if follow the book 100% you'll be granted eternal paradise. the catch is that it's been translated a million times over, corrupted and changed by man, and has over a million different versions saying sort of different things. oh and you go burn in a pit of fire if you don't follow the original copy correctly"
^Rough estimate of how I feel about the bible.

See how fun it is?
One thing I'd like to point out. First and only, your version is wrong compared to my totally correct version
But they both allude to the same thing, so my point still stands.

That's way off the mark. God didn't give us a book. The bible is an interpretation of the Christian religion written by man.

Last time I heard from my old christian teachers, yes he did. It is HIS word. Clearly, his WORD is LAW.
[editline]8th December 2010[/editline]
As for your first point, I was typing something really long and thought out, but then I just looked at it again and forgot that it promotes stoning.
Well shit that's all I gotta say.
[editline]8th December 2010[/editline]
Also, one more before I hit the sack.
The bible is the very foundation of christianity. If it (the book) is full of fallacies, contradictions, promotions of violence, rape, pillaging (redundant i know) etc then what does it say about the religion in general?

the foundation of christianity is jesus christ. everything else is irrelevant. real christians follow the example set by jesus christ and not all the bullshit in the old testament if you've got issue with people who believe in those sorts of things take it up with them. it's funny how you try and act like christians actually support these things just because a book written thousands of years ago in a far harsher time does.
Hey Garry was just reading this. Anyway, why does anyone on Facepunch care what you believe? Christian? No one cares. Muslim? Shit given = 0 Athiest? "And on that day, not a single fuck was given."
Grow up.
Don't give a shit? Don't post. You don't need to announce to the world you don't care, unless you're seeking attention for being cool and apathetic.
i'm not a Christian, i'm just saying if you believe in the bible 100% like a good Christian you take it as the word of god, so the old testament still counts
Yeah well I follow my religion how I want to and until you show me some "Christian Rule Book" that everybody always claims to know, then I am not going to take the Old Testament as law.
if you're not going to believe in half (or more) of the shit the bible talks about why the fuck do you call yourself a Christian? it's not like you need to be one to be moral. you can still believe in a god and an afterlife if you're a deist, claiming you're a "Christian" even when you only share a handful of beliefs with the Christians that most atheists are referring to just causes pointless fucking confusion and arguing for everyone
and don't say it's because you think jesus was a cool dude, you can still do that regardless.
(plus, he said a lot of horrible shit. at least, according to the bible.)
Some kid was looking over my shoulder and got offended. He's too retarded to understand that I didn't make the flowchart and it was his fault for looking at what I'm doing instead of working on his own shit anyway.

And real christians learn about jesus and his teachings through...
Oh, right, the bible. Unless you're implying that it should be and always has been word of mouth, in which case you're just discrediting the religion further since all it takes is a simple slip of the tongue (or corruption) by a relative person of "power" (priest, pope, what have you) to change the whole story.
And funny how you mention the old testament is bullshit. Then why the hell is it still part of the bible? Why not just lop that part off and keep the new testament? Because there are a shitton of people who take it seriously and truly believe that 2 of every animal fit on the ark or that the first woman was created from the first man's rib and so on.
Did you try and explain it to him?
Yeah, of course. He was bitching really loud at me.

the story doesn't matter, the only thing that should matter to true christians is the example set by jesus christ. the old testament is irrelevant, i don't know why it's still in the bible, for continuity purposes? don't ask me i didn't write it. and no i don't believe there is a shitton of people who take the old testament seriously and if there are i sure haven't met any.

You're not gonna win much people over to your thinking if you act like that.

Even though his post seems hostile, he has a point. All christians do nowadays is pick-and-choose what parts of the bible to follow/believe as long as it doesn't conflict with their lifestyle. Hell, even Lachz0r is willing to disregard most of the bible and only follow the supposed life of a man named Jesus as recounted in books matthew, mark, luke, and john.
Too bad we don't follow the bible enough. Them women folk should learn their place and be stoned.
Edit edit:
You can't blame the mistakes of individuals on a whole group. Example: Do you blame modern-day Germans for the Holocaust? No, not logically you don't; they had nothing to do with it. Same with the Westboro Baptist Church - they took one verse of the Bible and based their whole religion around it. Especially the fact they flatly ignore the whole New Testament and Jesus. They assume that gays will go to hell just because they are gay. They CAN be forgiven because of Jesus.
sorry to pick this up a bit late, but we don't blame modern day Germans, we blame the group I.E. the Nazi party

Jesus doesn't condemn stoning or slavery. He tells you that the old testament is relevant and he will enforce it.
Plus, you only care about Jesus? What about God? Does what he says not matter?

And I totally agree.
It's just disappointing that most people here make an honest effort to try to win individuals over to their way of thinking through ridicule, name calling, etc. and figure if they amass enough ratings or quotes in their favor, it'll happen. And yea, maybe it does, but I don't think it's the best way.

i don't understand how anyone thinks they'll win anyone over. when it comes to faith people make their own decisions based on their own beliefs. if they're willing to accept something that you find completely illogical what makes you think anything you say can change their mind?
jesus is god.
That adds a whole new bunch of questions.
Then why do you ignore the old testament?
Why did God create men in 'our' image, not 'his'? The bible uses plural gods a bunch of times.

i ignore the old testament for the same reason that lawmakers ignore hammurabi's codes. they may have been relevant thousands of years ago but they aren't now. why are you asking me that? how could i possibly know.
Why isn't it relevant anymore?
If god referenced himself as 'us', who is the other if it isn't Jesus?
Do you see the flaws here?
thank you op now i can rape with ease and not worry about my soul!

I wasn't talking solely about religious faith.
