]Also the series (books and movies) would have been fine without the whole Team Peeta vs. Teem Gale bullshit. It's a dumb way of creating drama in my opinion.
Teen drama really has no place in what would otherwise have been a perfect dystopian series
Yeah the Team Peeta VS Team Gale put me off in the first book as it was so obviously the direction.
Don't think of it as a dystopian series with teen drama, it's a teen drama set in a dystopia. Don't mistake it for anything else, that's how it's presented, that's how it's marketed, and that's it's ultimate flaw in my opinion.
Watched the movie with my younger brother. I expected it to be meh but I just wanted to bring my bro, turns out the movie was much better than I expected. One of the better ones ive seen this year by far. Overall was just enjoyable to watch, though (ending spoilers) [sp] It kinda just had her shoot the dome, get rescued, everyone is rebels, hi gale. END. I was put off by it happening so sudden and fast but IT was still good. I am actually excited for the third film. [/sp] Ive never read any of the books but the first.
This series may be the first time a movie has made me want to read the book instead of vice-versa
saw this today, made me wish the first movie wasnt even made, just amazing
[editline]2nd December 2013[/editline]
i agree that the ending sucked, but the movie itself was probably one of the best i've seen this year
Yeah thinking back to the movie today, still shocked how well it was. Only thing I think that can beat it this year is the new Hobbit Movie. I am excited for the next two movies though. Glad its split into two parts.
Why do you guys hate the ending? Was it the [sp]massive cliff hanger?[/sp]
It was like that in the book, no worries.
just finished reading the Hunger Games book. So much better than the first movie. Now for Catching Fire.

it was [sp] so fast - dome break, wake up and everyone rebel, wake up again and gale is here hi district 12 dead. [/sp]

Yeah, it [sp]all happens extremely fast and then ends extremely abruptly (not even on that good a cliffhanger, I've seen better). I mean, yeah, the book ends it exactly like that, but it just feels so rushed and sudden it's just like meh. That would've been one of the situations where I feel it would need to be adjusted a tiny bit as it doesn't translate so well from book to film in terms of flow and just closure. The book ended fine like that, and it worked. For the film, it was really abrupt and just didn't feel right.[/sp]
Man, I had the opportunity to go see this earlier and I passed it up. Then I see that FP likes this movie and anything FP likes, I HAVE to see. Oh well.

I agree with everything here. [sp] They should have gone into more detail. They could have shown the turmoil in district 12 and how Gale got on board, and I would have been willing to stay the extra half hour.[/sp]
But besides the ending was a good movie. I rate it 9/10.
It was a pretty good movie. My only complaint is [sp]there really didn't seem to be that much emotional conflict in Katniss between Peeta and Gale. When she's with Gale, she loves Gale. When she's with Peeta, she loves Peeta. It's like the other is completely out of her mind when with one and vice versa.[/sp]

That's pretty much how the book described it.
She's a teenage girl who now has two guys who care about her, and she has a connection with both of them, making it really a girl's emotional rollercoaster.

It didn't seem very rollercoaster like at all.
Like, I didn't see any doubt or conflict when being with each guy. It felt almost as if she was cheating and content with that.

You don't get the inner dialogue that was in the books, which is why in the movie it feels rushed, emotionless, and a lack of real explanation.
The book describes Gale as someone she sees can take care of her family, but Peeta as someone she feels safe with.
In the first book, they spent quite a lot of time in the cave while Peeta was healing, something the movie skipped a lot of. The books give a lot more in-depth explanation about what is going through her head when it comes to the both of them.
I haven't read the books but my sister told me he coughs up blood because his mouth is full of sores. The reason he has these sores is something to do with he poisoned people in order to become president and had to eat some of the food himself as not to arouse suspicion.
I'm probably remembering it wrong but I think it's something along those lines./
It's talked about more in the third book, so they'll probably address it in the third movie.
I would not have read both of these posts if I knew spoils to 3rd Book/Movie was in them but this sounds like a minor spoiler so is it.? ( don't plan on reading book 3 until I see 3rd Movie. )
I'm reading the books now. Honestly, I didn't have a good grasp on Katniss from the movie, much like all of you describe, but when I started reading the books, I catch now how angry she is and how much of an expert she is in hiding it at this point in her life. Jennifer Lawrence is a great actress who really shows how Katniss must seem to the outside observer. I don't see it as a teen drama at all, but a story about a girl who is a genuine warrior and survivor. She only describes her feelings in a realistic, stark, non inflated manner when she has the time for it or when it's necessary for survival. It's not coming off as melodramatic or anything at all.
Then again, I'm on page 300 of the first book.

It's been a while since I've read the books, but the first book didn't really have any drama at all. It's mainly the second and third book where the teen angst drama happens
