No, they are not zombies. They have concious thought and do not eat people. They may be undead but they are not zombies. They're closer to vampires than zombies.
comes to think of it, vampires and zombies have one major thing in common, their bite turns people into one of their own

It's survival instincts and they do have some very, very basic thought processes such as a basic understanding of affection and domestication of animals to some degree but nothing more. They're compulsive and driven almost entirely by primal urge and instinct. The I Am Legend creatures. That's what you were referring too, right?
Yeah, I saw no reason for him to do that, he could have tossed the grenade and went through that little door easily.
[sp]Well he lost his wife and daughter, and the only thing he had left which was his dog. So it made sense for him to kill himself as he did his part, and he wanted to be with his family (Sense their is a strong GOD presence in the film).[/sp]
There was also a woman in the picture, he could have lived with her. But, I guess it would be acceptable to assume he killed himself out of grief.

In the novel, they have a civilization, they also are inteligent to organize attacks, and they also have "tribes" or families. And when I mean eating humans, I mean in a zombie like manor.
Yeah, in the novel it's Will Smiths character that is the 'monster' as he keeps attacking and killing members of their society. He becomes a legendary monster like Dracula hence the title 'I am Legend'.
Still, Zombies is as close of a description of them as one can get, per their action in the movie. Besides, it feels more...right, to call them zombies.
I prefer the term "Infected"
I thought Will stayed at the infection site because he knew it was the only place he could find a cure.
I'll have to watch the movie again, but I thought it was because it was the 'best' place to have a chance at a quick cure. That was important because it's spreading around the world. If it wasn't spreading around already, then having a quick cure isn't important, because Manhattan was already lost cure or no cure. That would mean he could do his research somewhere safe and take his time(and be with his family).

I've read the book(s) there have been several books and almost all of them are different in some way. You see, they never copyrighted the original novel so there were several publishings of it by different authors. On some they even talked to Robert Nevil, urging him to come outside among other things and as you have mentioned before families and organization. However, the actual movie they didn't depict them as having as much of a complex society, so I'm basing my opinion of the movie, on the movie. Infact, I liked the original books a bit because of the ending. He has become a vampire to them, a mysterious creature, the only one of his kind, a boogie man who invades peoples homes and kills them in their sleep. He is the last person alive, and because of that he is a legend. [editline]03:24PM[/editline]
I thought Will stayed at the infection site because he knew it was the only place he could find a cure.
At first it was "His site" and I guess that's where he was responsible for his research or something of that such. Eventually though, he just became delusional in a sense where he refused to leave at all even after it was obvious the world was lost.
I think it spread through the whole world, I loved this movie so much, one of my favorite movies, I wish Will Smiths character was [sp]still alive[/sp]
He is in the book. [sp]I'm surprised, when he tried to take his wife and child on the helichopter, to do that test again for the virus, and all of a sudden, the helichopter was out of control, making it the wife and child were infected, and started killing everyone on the helichopter[/sp].

No, really, how did you absorb that from the scene? They were evacuating important figures from the city. Since he happened to be a Colonel his family got bumped up the list so he brought them the evacuation point to leave the city which was being sealed, meanwhile he would stay behind to continue his research. The Helicopter directly across from the one his family was in was taking off when several people rushed the gate, grabbed the skids and caused the pilot to lose control, crashing into the family in the other helicopter killing both groups instantly.[/sp]
Oh okay...must of missed something.
:iiam: It's probably gonna be explained in the sequel, there wasn't much info about the scale of the infection in the first one. Or maybe there was, but I forgot.
Sequel? There was only one book written :S
Maybe because first time she fails the scan?
You must have completely missed the part where the other helicopter is bum rushed by refugees and it crashes into the helicopter with her in it while it's taking off.
