My Great Grandfather is still listed as M.I.A (Missing in action) when he served in the Polish Armed Forces in a regiment that used armored trains. Most of my other relatives were civilians fleeing from the germans. My great great grandmother was killed when she wanted to save some soldiers who were standing outside of a bunker smoking. The smoke was noticed by german soldiers who then called in dive bombers.:smith:
How to look for that? I can't really find anything about my Family. And i mean it, absolutely nothing. [sp]I'm German.[/sp]
My Dad was in the South African army for 4 years. (Mandatory enlistment)

I hope your great grand dad didn't end up in Katyn, or a Gulag. Poland has had the most shit dumped on it for years and now look who's king of the EU now. Word of mouth.
Great-Great-great Uncle went missing after he signed up in WWI, he went to war and was never heard of again. My Great Grandfather built the Spitfires that fought in the Battle of Britain, and both my grandfathers served in the Army during peace time. Planning on joining up in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps when I'm older.
Great grand dad died in the first gas attack in history, and a uncle who served on submarines managed to miss being on the sub when it sank, twice.
My great grandpa served with the Soviet Union during World War II and had one of his legs blown off by a land mine. He had "phantom" leg. He'd constantly ask my mother to scratch it for him.

And very delicately said, Poland is not quite the country you would like to live in.

Great for education purposes
My grandfathers father was a Captain in the Wehrmacht, or whatever their type of Captain is.
For Being shat on By Austria-Hungary, Russia, Nazi Germany, Russia again for 60 years
Yeah, but whose fault is their defeat? They also had the biggest army in Europe once, but they couldn't hold it, and then vanished and got separated. Three times.

Yeah, in the Middle ages and Renaissance. Then they got attacked by two of the largest power at the same time when they settled into a more peaceful lifestyle.

But i wouldn't blame the Attacker for the Defenders defeat.
All I really know is that my great-grandfather was a gunner for the RAF and he flew into a mountain due to getting lost or reciving flak, I'm not sure.
Hey guys, this isn't a discussion on how good Poland is.
Anyway, My other grand uncle was on The Nautilus (the first nuclear sub) on its north pole voyage. Cant beleive I forgot that one.
My Great Great Grandfather served the Germans in WWI (He was a Lithographer, which is someone who draws stuff using stone or metal tablets, I assume he made maps) and my Great Grandfather fought for the Germans in WWII (He was just an infantryman in the Wehrmacht, I have a picture of him in a badass greatcoat and a rifle slung over his back).
My great uncle died in Italy during world war 2 (he left Ireland to join the British Army before the war), and my great granddad fought in the battle of the Somme and survived but he died when my mom was young, so I've never talked to either of them :saddowns:
Well, both of my my Great Grandfathers served in Wehrmacht, and my Great Great Grandfather's too. Nothing else i can find though.
my dad was in the Falklands War, he got medals but I'm not home so cant check
My dad was too, He was in the Royal Navy. I feel bad for him though, Every single one of his friends died.
My Granddad was a postman in World War II. One day he got sick, so they sent out his replacement. His replacement was killed while he was asleep back at base. I don't quite know the details, my Grandpa died of Multiple Schirosis when I was 11. I really wish I could have known more about it.
My grandpa from my mother's side served in the Finnish army during Winter War. He died back in 1990-ish so I never got to meet him.
Hooray for Spain and the wars it participated in the last 100 years!
The Spanish civil war, quite devastating for the country
Some of my dad's uncles were in the army, they were spivs. They spent the majority of their time stealing everything and then selling it. They made a lot of money and got away with it. Unfortunately my dad's dad had flat feet so he they would let him join the army, so no money for my offshoot of the family.
My grandpa shot mortars for the Spanish army and my dad was in the Spanish navy
If I remember correctly, i think my dad told me his dad was a sniper in the pacific in WWII. I never got to meet him though, he died way before i was born. My mom's dad drove landing crafts in WWII, he never really talked about it much. The one time he did start talking about it, he stopped in the middle of a sentence and just sat there for a minute before tearing up. He died a few years ago :\
My grandma's father was exiled to Siberia, accused of being a communist and a 'traitor', during the Finnish Civil War in 1918. He made his way back from Siberia on foot, stole a boat from Estonia, rowed across the Gulf of Finland and got back to Karelia where my grandma lived before the Continuation War. After that he said that any descendant, who'd become a communist, would be kicked out of the house and out of the family by him personally. When the soviets launched their second attack against Finland in '41, my grandma left Primorsk, Karelia with her family and fled to Tavastia. The bushrusskie fighters fired on the ship they used to cross the small Gulf of Vyborg.
My granduncle served in an artillery division during Monte Cassino. My grandfather served during the Korean War, but was never deployed. My father served during the Gulf War, but being in the Air Force reserves, was never deployed. My granduncle died two days ago.
I wish I had such a brave family history.. :smith:
