My great great grandpa was in WWI. He had 2 children, but his wife had recently died, so he kinda went crazy, and signed up to fight. He died in the first day of the battle of the Somme, like at the end of black adder. A few years ago, when we were still living in England, we took the ferry to to France and visited Thiepval, found his name, and put a paper up to it and rubbed a pencil on it to get the imprint.

My great grandpa was in WWII, but shot himself in the foot when he found out he had to go for a second tour.
I forgot to say my family's military history.
My Grandfather was a Sergeant in the Romanian army in WWII. He fought for 8 years, from 1937-1945. He never got shot once, but I'm pretty sure he killed a couple Russians. I never met my grandfather.
My Grandfather did describe the war to my dad a bit. He said: "We had no choice. It was either we kill them, or they kill us."
My dad served in the marines, but got discharged for bad food poisoning. He was famous around there for being a good marksman.
Great grandfather was in the motherfucking Red Army.
Managed to get an awesome clock back from Germany, and my grandfather got it shipped over to Aus, for our family living in aus (Dad, Mum, siblings and I)
Its fucking awesome. Its one of these kinds of clocks, just abit different.

Im not sure how he managed to get it back to Belarus but he did.
EDIT: While this is not my family, a family friends grandfather was in Leningrad during the siege, and he managed to survive.
Most of the males in my family have served, or are currently serving.
My Great-Uncle (civilian in Germany during WW2) shot and killed a Luftwaffe pilot in a bar, then took his valuables. I have no idea how he just walked away without anyone pointing fingers. Kind of a cheap hit-n-run on his part but what's done is done. I have the pilots dagger and iron cross from that attack.
Oh yeah? Well my grandpa was one of those people who... I'm not quite sure. I know that he flew reconnaissance planes though.
Some of my relatives fought as Guerrilla fighters in the Philippines during WWII. Most of them are dead/there's very little official documentation on guerrilla fighters so I don't know much about them.
A member of my family has fought in every American war all the way from the revolution to Vietnam.
My grandma's dad on my dad's side I think was a combat engineer and was in the battle of The Bulge. He got a silver star for something.
My grampa on my dad's side served in was an internee at one of the American Internment camps for Japanese Americans in WWII, then he served in Korea as a corpsman on a US ship, he was also in one of the WHO teams sent to Chernobyl after the accident.

A lot of Filipino's in here.
My grandfather was in the Air Force and flew a B-52 Bomber in World War 2 I think. I'm not sure which war actually, but it was probably WWII though. I've met him before and he recently visited my family and I for a few days, he's a pretty nice guy. He lives on a ranch in Texas and collects arrowheads ( he has a fuckton ) and goes hunting.
My dad also worked on airplanes in the Air Force for a short time, I can't remember when but it was many years ago ( before I was born. )
My Great Great Great Great Great Great grandfather was Phillip Hamman, the savior of Greenbrier. He dressed as an indian, and raced to the fort of Greenbrier to warn of an attack, and killed an indian with a tomahawk.
There's a wikipedia article about him, it's pretty neat.

If it was me I would try and find if he has any relatives or go to his grave and put them back.

My Grandfather died in a concentration camp in WW2.
He fell from his guard tower.

My great uncles on my dad's side were all in the military.
1 was in the carlson raiders
1 was a sniper and had 73 recorded japanese kills
2 served in Europe, 1 of which was at normandy
1 was an antiaircraft gunner that recorded 6 japanese planes shot down, 3 were kamakazis
1 stayed at pearl harbor the whole war

Oh har har har u r zo funni xD
Dumb joke, and FYI, someone has already said it. So you are late.
Oh damn you crackberry wrecking my automerge.
My dad is a retired E-8. He was drafted in 1969 for Vietnam and did one tour, he got out in 1973. Around 1976 he sign back up again and stayed in. He retired when Kosovo started getting hot. I remember when he use to take me to the motor pool and let me crawl around in the vehicles, take me to the barracks, and get to hang around with the soldiers. It was so awesome!
My Grandfather served in WWII in the 401st Glider Infantry Regiment, Charlie Company. He always said quotes "Why jump out of a perfectly good aircraft when it's apparently safer to crash land at 90 miles an hour.
My Great Uncle was in the 2nd ID 9th Infantry regiment, during Korea. He was at Bloody Ridge. he died when I was 10. I didn't learn about this until I saw pictures of him and a little scrap book.
Then almost 60 years later, I find myself in the 9th Infantry Reg.
My great grandfather was a veteran. My grandparents donate cool shit like memorials.
He was a PFC and he died in the battle of Weiswampach.
My grampa was a captain in the Southern Vietnamese army (Or whatever it may have been called.)
Then, after the war, he comes to the U.S. and becomes a Domino's Pizza delivery guy.
My Great Grandfather was drafted as a German soldier during WW2 and became a POW in Siberia.
Well, my grandparents on my mom's side have the last name Werdehoff. My grandpa's mother and father immigrated from Germany after WWII. I'll give you two guess to figure out which side of the war my grandpa's dad was on.
My grandpa did some time guarding an ammunition depot in (ironically) Germany just after Vietnam ended.
Uncle was int he navy for a short period of like 3 years. Nothing else, really.
b52...in ww2??
Maybe it wasn't a B52, I'm not even sure what the manufacturing date of it is. :v:
I know it was some sort of bomber though. It's been forever since I've been told what he did specifically.
[editline]2nd February 2011[/editline]
Oh my bad, it was a B-52, but it was in Vietnam IIRC.
My great-grandfather fought in ww1, and was part of the forces invading germany, too bad I never met him though..

No country actually invaded German lands during the war. All fighting was done out of German Boundries(Excluding colonies)
My grandpa and dad were both US Army Special Forces. My grandpa served in WW2 and the Korean War, while my dad served in Vietnam and in Columbia(during the 1980s drug wars although nobody really hears about that shit).

That's my grandfather. Served on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific during WW2. Passed away in may of 2001.

That's My Dad. My father retired a Commander in the US Navy. Served on the nuclear submarine USS James K. Polk, and The USS Nimitz.
My father's brother retired a Captain in the US Navy.
I guess this counts as military history: my great uncle is Louis Riel. He led rebellions against the Canadian government who were trying to take land away from Aboriginals and Metis. His actions helped the formation of Manitoba, a province and quickened the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway.

My fathers father was stationed at Hickam Field when it was bombed by the Japanese in 1941 and later went on to recieve a purple heart during the battle for Okinawa and further on back on my dad's side of the family we had some people fight in the American civil war. More recently both my uncle's on my dad's side of the family served in the navy during the Vietnam War though for whatever reason my dad's draft number never was called and my cousin served with the 82'nd Airborne during the initial invasion of Afghanistan.
On my mother's side of the family my grandfather's older brothers were bomber crewmen during WWII and they all made it back.
So quite a bit of history as far as my family goes.
My grandfather fought in the Polish Resistance in World War II. Sadly he passed away when I was too young to ask him about it.
one grandfather served in Vietnam, my other grandfather had to stay with his family and most of his friends who went were killed. My uncle was in Operation Desert Storm. Cool fact: was back then, you could buy a desert eagle for only 200$. My uncle still has his.
I had a grandfather that fought in ww1 and another that fought in Bore War. Both British.
