No german stories?
Here's a german story for you my Great Uncle Henny was in the German 6th Army at Stalingrad. He was a captain and somehow he was one of the few Germans to make it out alive well sort of, He was a P.O.W. in Russia untill the war ended and then they made him walk back to Germany. He never talked about it much but somehow he also managed to imigrate into America before the Iron Curtain fell over Europe. That was on my dad's side of the family and on my mom's side all 8 of my grandfathers brothers were American G.I's in WWII. One was a truck driver in Burma, one was an aircraft mechanic in North Africa, one fought in Alaska on the Aleutian Islands (however you spell it), one was in Okinawa, and one fought in Europe. I forgot what the other ones did.
My Great-Uncle (civilian in Germany during WW2) shot and killed a Luftwaffe pilot in a bar, then took his valuables. I have no idea how he just walked away without anyone pointing fingers. Kind of a cheap hit-n-run on his part but what's done is done. I have the pilots dagger and iron cross from that attack.
Just found some pics of them. Sorry for the shit quality Luftwaffe dagger [img_thumb]http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/l33tkill101/0203112102.jpg[/img_thumb] Iron Cross (2nd Class I believe) [img_thumb]http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/l33tkill101/0111002029.jpg[/img_thumb]
My Great Grandfather was in the US Army in WW2 and probably used an M1 Garand because had an M1 Bayonet that he kept afterward. He was awarded 3 medals, but I'm not sure which ones. I don't know anything else unfortunately.
My grandpa on my dads side drove a Truck at the end of WW2, thats about as far as our family has gone as far as military service.
I think either my grandpa, or my dads grandpa was officer in the schutzstaffel (SS) Hmm, might do some more research on that later today.
My Great grandfather and his brothers and cusins were rebels during the german occupation of Norway. One time, my great grandfather's brother was in a hotel, using a radio (Wich was illegal) Germans came, with some kind of tracker device they could find radios with. When he went out of the room, there was a german soldier in the hallway pointing a gun at him. He also had a gun, and they shot each other at the same time. When he woke up after he had fainted, the german was there, dead. The soldier had hit him in the shoulder. The bullet was near a nerve, so the doctors could'nt remove it, so he had it there untill he died of old age
I'm far related to the assassin of Nikolay Bobrikov, Eugen Schauman. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugen_Schauman
I asked my dad and my grandmothers brother stormed one of the beaches at Italty. His first name is jack, and we're unsure of his last name so I have no idea to figure out if he did anything note worthy.
My uncle flew a B-52 during the Cold War.

My grandfather was in the South Korean Navy, RoK stuff. Died of Alzheimer's, I tried asking him about it, but he could never remember properly.
My grandmothers grandfather died serving for Germany during World War I, shot by a machinegun if I remember correctly. My grandfathers cousins (I think) died during the Finnish Winter War (during WWII) for Finland. One of them died from enemy grenade shrapnel and the other one died by being struck by lightning (I'm serious) while he was in service.
