My grandfather's dutch military number was 007 he's dead now
My grandfather was in the Korean War and is still here. He's got a whole bunch of cool stuff like an M1 Garand, BAR, old old video of him in a tank, his uniforms, and a whole lot of other things. He gave me an air raid helmet around Christmas and a child's gas mask from WW2 in pretty perfect condition (original bag, filter still unopened inside the tin can (kind of like a mini paint can with a key to pry it open), and small tin with a special cloth to clean it with.
My grandfather served in the reserves during Vietnam. He was never called up, however.

Pre-Cold War gas masks usually have asbestos in them!
My grandfather on my mothers side was aMyn MP for the army during WWII, he guarded german prisoners and later was in charge of security at a garrison in kansas. My other grandfather was a pilot during the mid 50's for the air guard, he flew F-89's with "genie" nuclearair to air missles. My uncle was in the army during the late 80's, not sure what he did. My cousin is an MP in the army, served a tour in iraq and is now an investigator within the service and is stationed in alaska. Lastly I'm in the Marine Corps, I'm currently traning to be a crew chief in a huey.
My grandfather served as a Soldier in the U.S. Army during World War 2. He told me a story where his friend and him tossed a coin to see who would be point man, and his friend lost the bet so he had to take point in the squad. His friend didn't make it out alive after that... but my grandfather was all over Europe. Germany, France, Belgium, etc. He had a girlfriend in France.
My Grandfather died in a gulag, he fell off the guard tower.
My grandfather died when somebody fell off a guard tower onto him.
My grandfather would have fought in italy in ww2, but his best friend told him that he didn't want to lose his friend, so he kicked him so hard in the leg that he got a permanent leg injury so they made him a cook on a ship. He even reached the rank colonel (of the cooks)
I don't think I posted about my history in this thread yet.. My dad was in the Airforce as an electronics technician thinger from 61 to some time in the 80s. He also served under the Thunderbirds as part of the maintenance dudes. I had a great uncle that fought on Guadalcanal I think, and probably more, and he has some silver stars and stuff. He's dead though, and he never really told anyone about it. The person who has his stuff is estranged from the rest of the family too, so we haven't really been able to find out about him. My brother the failure spent all of high school in JROTC and planned to join the Airforce the entire time, yet when he got to it, he had an allergic reaction to the shots, and even though he could have stayed in, finished basic, or came back in a year or something like that, he simply chose to not do anything. Thats the problem though, he doesn't have any money and his fucking dumbass doesn't have a job and he doesn't even do anything to get it. He doesn't go to college, and we have no money for him and neither does he to go to a decent college. He's also a weeaboo and I walk in on him looking at hentai ALOT. My cousin is in the USMC right now, as a MP. (he's also black, which means i am a white man with black cousins fuck yah) Me? I plan to join the Army if all goes well. [editline]5th February 2011[/editline] oh and my brothers arms are nothing but flab now [editline]5th February 2011[/editline] oh and he's a neckbeard
My Uncle served in Vietnam and was stationed in Saigon as a cook for the duration of his tour. Although he never participated in any combat when he was there. Also, according to my dad at least, he came back with A LOT of weird stories. But I've never really asked my Uncle about it and he hasn't told me. The Vietnam war is still a very sensitive issue in my family (Dad was anti-Vietnam war, my Uncle volunteered). I have a Grand-Uncle that served in WWII in Italy, fighting the fascists, apparently as an officer (don't know his rank). I only meet him twice in my life and barely remembering either time. He died when I was 11.
My dad served in the 7th Cav Regiment, 3rd squadron, stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany from '63 to '65. He drove an M113. :D The only notable thing that he did is that he went on numerous bar runs into Eastern Germany, while on duty in his track. He told me that, in retrospect, that it was a very stupid mistake, and didn't understand how he wasn't court martialed.
My mother's parents lived in Bremen; I used to visit them every year and even lived there with them for a while. We had several relatives who served during the war in the Luftstreitkrafte, Kaiserliche Marine, and the Heer. When they (my grandparents) died, they gave me the pictures they had of them and told me to pass them on to my children when I had them someday. I never bothered to get married, let alone have kids, so you'll have to work as a substitute, Facepunch. The pictures of the pilot and aircraft are from my grandfather's personal effects; he was part of a Schlasta squadron and went on later to serve in World War II as a technical adviser and trainer for the Luftwaffe. The first picture is of his cousin, Siegfried Weesl, who lost both his arms during the war from a grenade and died in Kiel in 1977. And the last picture is of Siegfried's brother, Julius Weesl, who was a mechanic aboard the zeppelin L-31 (he was killed in action; all I know about him). I could tell you what my dad did in the military. But then I might have to kill you. I don't know - but then again neither does anyone except him.
My grampa was a romanian military engineer held prisoner by the Nazis for 5 years, he didn't tell them shit.
All I know is my Grandfather was a blood thirsty ukranian partisan that killed like 30 nazis, while my dad was a pussy who was drafted into the Russian army and dissappeared. He's also responsible for the killing of my grandfather on my mother's side 'cus alcohol is too strong for such a tiny baby man russian like him. I hate him...the end. My grandfather on my mother's side was a reserve Officer in the Russian Army, but I don't know much because all of his belongings were trashed when he was sent to prison for 10 years while Soviet Russian still existed, he was sent there because of false accusations....oh motherland, so reliable. Yet I'm still a proud, marxist, Russian myself. Though I moved to America a while ago. Oh yea and my mom was a combat medic, trained in Russia too. I think my Grandma was a sniper, but I'm not sure.
Only one. Grandad starts new family after immigrating to England, joins the Royal Marine Commandos. Goes to the pacific and refuses to talk about it for the rest of his life after. I've no idea what he did or saw, and I'm not sure I want to know. :smith:
Grandfather was a sniper in Manila, and went to Hiroshima, we think thats how he got cancer, it was 6 weeks after the bomb :saddowns: [editline]6th February 2011[/editline] Other Grandfather was a MP in Korea, my Great Uncle a Colonel in Vietnam. He killed someone with a entrenching shovel. He then became a K-6 teacher :v:
My grandpa fought in ww2
My grampa was a romanian military engineer held prisoner by the Nazis for 5 years, he didn't tell them shit.
Romanians unite.
My Dad was a Munitions designer for the Taiwanese military. Yeah, that's what makes him awesome. He taught me Algebra by explaining how an automated 30.cal AA system calculates where and when to fire.
My great grandfather on my mother's side fought in WW1 on the American side. I'm not sure of much else other than that, he most likely served along tanks or something of the lines. The only thing my grandmother told me about was recieving letters at home from him when she was very young. She gave me his uniform, but I think it was stolen from her garage before I could get it. On my father's side from Norway, my grandpa's uncle was a Spitfire pilot. He's presumed to be shot down by this man, in Ibbenbüren(the last guy): http://www.luftwaffe.cz/borris.html
Both my great grandfathers were in WWI, and my mother's dad was in WWII fighting for the British, and my father's dad was in the Korean conflict for Canada, while my grandma on my father's side was in the lebanon civil war. My great uncle was a bomber pilot with the Americans. And my dad and one of my uncles were engineers in the modern Canadian army, the uncle now teaches cadets. My other uncle, Don, recently returned from Afghanistan after being the deputy commander of the Canadian Forces health services. I read an article about him here -->http://www.canada.com/story_print.html?id=a6c3c943-6621-4902-9063-91b837e1ec08&sponsor=
My brother will serve his second term in Iraq next year My uncle has served in Vietnam My pepè was in the navy during WWII My great, great grandfather was in the army, and then navy during WWI (All on my mother's side, all fighting for America)
My (Dads side)grandfather served in the invasion of Holland as infantry, where he captured 17 men by himself. Then he got assigned to be a commander on a firefly and got the crew to run over a nazi staff car :v:. Then he found a officer hiding out, he was only like 21 so my day let him go in exchange for his coat, his sidearm(Luger),hat and all the money he had on him) My grandfather on my moms side fought in the battle of Berlin as a Hitler youth brigade soldier and her great grand father as a Whermacht soldier. I really heroic thing he did was when they started hanging volkstrum he and his squad killed the executioners who where about to deprive a kid of his grandfather.
A distant cousin of mine was in the flag raising picture on Iwo Jima.
Both my grandfathers were drafted in Vietnam, one was a door gunner in helicopters and the other was a helicopter mechanic if I remember correctly. And I'm going in to the Navy for IT.
none interesting
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Bishop my mom's side of the family is related to this guy. he's a cool bro
great grandfather fought the Turks invading Romania
My grandfather got a court martial for stealing a crate of beer, he was also apparently demoted to a private twice for insubordination. He was in the 47th Field Baking Platoon and other stuff that I don't know about yet. (I've contacted the Australian archive to get his service record)
