Heh every time I read that I missed the "not." Sorry. Still I think what I said still holds. Asking for subtlety is not terrible, but it could have been worse. Its not like they had a "holding hands and running through a field of flowers" or "fall down into flowers and stare intently into each other's eyes" moments which would have completely destroyed it. This being a trailer I'm hoping this represents a smaller more condensed segment of the game where you are supposed to get interested in these two.

No instead they just have an awkward dancing-near-a-cliff-edge and they almost kiss.
Also I hope they won't kiss in the game. They never did until now and they really shouldn't start with it in that game.

Seeing what kind development they've put into their more recent games it looks like Nintendo's putting some heavy focus on character development. Given their tendency to be unusually distant from their fans, especially western ones, plus their lack of experience in creating characters with deep backstories and personalities that tie into multiple games, some awkwardness in the field seems inevitable. Keep in mind that they aren't used to expressing romance with more than just a pixellated heart floating over two character's heads, and that their franchises were practically monopolized by silent protagonists until recently.
