Uh, what I didn't even finish season 1. It was that episode with that yellow elephant. I think she exploded in the end while they were fighting a glass copy of themselves. And then the episode ended. I knew this was one of those shows who doesn't give a fuck about continuity, but that make it seem like the writers just gave up. Like "well we set up that joke but we don't know how to end it so let's just end it like that". After an endless streams of horrible random jokes and adult humor so obvious that it seemed like every time they made a joke the episode stopped so they could stare at the camera and grin and go "hey did you get that that was adult humor DID YOU GET THAT", I just gave up.
i understand where you're coming from but uh, this shows good on continuity. The 'yellow elephant' comes back later on and becomes a recurring character, and there are almost no actual adult jokes in the show, either, just...really, really odd ones.
Anyone got links for the latest episodes? That tumblr site got taken down and I haven't seen anything new since the first episode of the newest season.
yep, that was the one. explosion, "oops", fade to credits. everybody I knew raved so much about this show, and it looked more like another show desperately trying to be Spongebob Squarepants or even Ren and Stimpy

The 'yellow elephant' comes back later on and becomes a recurring character,
You know, it would be nice if they had some sort of indication that would happen, or at least showed them reacting to the elephant exploding, instead of just fading to the credits and going "good night everybody". With how famous Spongebob and Ren and Stimpy got, "random-comedy-cartoon-with-adult-jokes" is practically its own genre by now.
tree trunks turns back to normal and they leave the crystal realm from what i remember. maybe you're talking about a different episode? [editline]31st January 2013[/editline] though i can't remember any of that description.

Children don't really care about that, and the 'teenage internet fanbase' is kind of a 'second audience'. Also, yeah, theres adult jokes, but even with that TV tropes you linked me theres still not that much.
Its a kids show, though.
Also, yeah, theres adult jokes, but even with that TV tropes you linked me theres still not that much.
I think you underestimate how much impact this "small number" of adult jokes have. Just using the Tree Trunks show as an example, the "sexiest adventurer" and "tempting people with my body" shit appears every goddamn second in the episode. And it's very, very obvious. [editline]31st January 2013[/editline] Everyone keeps telling me "oh it gets better later" but if I'm in the middle of a first season of a show and it can't grab my interest I'm not willing to waste my time watching four more seasons waiting for the moment where "it gets better". I'm here cause I want to understand why I don't like it, since it's impossible to go anywhere without this show staring at me in the face. Hopefully someone can explain the appeal to me.
okay then don't watch it
okay then don't watch it

I'm here cause I want to understand why I don't like it, since it's impossible to go anywhere without this show staring at me in the face. Hopefully someone can explain the appeal to me.
The appeal, for me anyway, is it's the kinda shit I would have watched as a kid. Can't really pinpoint specific reasons why it works.
even though im late to the seasons talk season 1 was pretty bad, at least compared to season 2/3
I think season 1 was one of the best seasons.
I love the "it's a kid's show" excuse. You can brush anything under that.
Ok, then tell me what shows you like.
Ok, then tell me what shows you like.
I'd say Family Guy just so you couldn't prove your point right, but then I'd be lying to myself. Also, bad example My point is that just because it's a kid's show doesn't mean you can just do a shitty job and say "it's for kids, kids don't mind" or brush off anything bad as "it's a kid's show, doesn't require that much effort". Now that I know that this plotline gets continued in a later episode, it's a bit different.

Now that interests me. I did like Marceline too. If I jump season one, will I miss too much?
My dad used to think that "Adventure Time with Flim and Flam" was stupid. Now he's warming up to it after watching it with me so many times, even laughing at parts, mostly Jake.
You see, this is the sort of answer that I was looking for. Now that interests me. I did like Marceline too. If I jump season one, will I miss too much?
the ones i remember liking the most were "what is life?" and "ricardio the heart guy". i don't think most of it is that important, though, except "freak city" for introducing magic man. he's more significant later on. also the fact that its more random earlier on is also partly because finn and jake are younger.
For me its the humor, the style how they make the characters and the characters themselves.
You see, this is the sort of answer that I was looking for. Now that interests me. I did like Marceline too. If I jump season one, will I miss too much?
You won't miss too much iirc. Haven't watched it in ages but from what I remember season 1 was mainly about the silly adventure element and season 2 onwards is when the storyline really picks up. [editline]31st January 2013[/editline] There's a few eps from season 1 you should watch though, some of them introduce characters that appear again later on.
You see, this is the sort of answer that I was looking for. Now that interests me. I did like Marceline too. If I jump season one, will I miss too much?
Not really, minus some continuity nods it's an episodic show with self-contained stories. The first episode I watched was from Season 2 if I remember correctly
The first episode I watched was Finn & Jake in a 3D video game world.
Your point? I like Adventure Time for the very reason it is a nice little depart from reality, to get upset about literally any part of it is almost tragically misguided in that there is so much other shit you could actually give a shit about. Quit gettin' mad at tv shows.

It is a kids show, you can't judge it as a proper entertainment medium because its a kids show...
For the record, you can't say there's no continuity when you haven't even finished one season. Great continuity doesn't just plod along with a simple A to B plot. It keeps things interesting by stretching over multiple episodes. Even some arcs have gaps of time, not as filler, but as an out of order timeline. (example [sp] the lich, tree trunks, jake's puppies [/sp]) Adventure time as quite a few sudden endings, but once they get resolved later, there's a lot of "oh yeah" and "no way" moments. I admit the first season is really random. But that was was a few years ago. Now the humor is a little dark and random, not for the sake of being random, but for creative purposes. That and some of the cel-shaded backgrounds are beautiful.
It is a kids show, you can't judge it as a proper entertainment medium because its a kids show...
Are you serious?
On a kids channel, sure. But its hardly a "show just for kids" Like the Incredibles, at face value its a movie for kids. But if you watch it and actually pay attention, iiiits kinda dark and full of jokes that the "target audience" simply ain't gonna get.
And the creator clearly put a lot of thought into it, it's not like one of the hundreds of throw away shows released to try and make money, it's imaginative and funny so it deserves a place with the good entertainment shows.
To change the subject, have you guys noticed how fucking weird Crystals Have Power is storyboarded? Jake changes size constantly, and I don't mean his powers. It's all just very inconsistently done.
Uh, why was PB speaking German in What Have You Done?
