I am in Air Force JROTC right now at my school , and to be honest, I don't think i would be the same person I am today without it.
I have friends in this and they say it's boring and all they do is community service and drills.

You dont have to join the military when your in jrotc.
They dont train you for anything, they help build leadership, and things needed in society
I sound like a monkey behind a desk
Yeah it was a lot of "clean the highways on saturday" or "sell hotdogs at the football game" or money management lessons, not throwing grenades, using a knife for everything and booking a trip to Iraq.
I was in AF JROTC when I was in High School. it was cool. the Colonel and Sarge in charge were awesome (both Sarges. one left when I was halfway through High School and was replaced), my classmates were awesome (except for the few nerds who joined for the sole purpose of thinking it would make them cooler), and it was just fun in general. except for the one day every week when we had to wear our Uniforms. that is the only reason why I'm glad to be out of it forever.

If you don't understand that the entire purpose of the JROTC is to try to indoctrinate you into the military so that you join when you graduate you're a fucking moron.
If it's just about "building leadership" then why the fuck do they make you wear a military uniform?????

What the fuck dude. How can you think that's funny?
I'm a Corporal in my Army JROTC and the only 'fun' part I have is when I get to spin the exhibition rifles. Otherwise it's pretty boring. Our JROTC doesn't run around the school like we're badass either and anyone that does is usually hated by the rest of the cadets. Because I'm on the drill team I get a red beret (exactly like Hugo Chavez's) and a red cord and all the new guys think we're some high ranking cadets or something, pretty funny.
I'm a Petty Officer 3rd class in my Navy ROTC after three years. I've been in Army, Air Force and Navy ROTCs so far. I plan on joining the Marine Corps after Highschool next year.
What the fuck dude. How can you think that's funny?
Pretty easily, actually.
Just because they're from the same country I am doesn't mean I have to care about them.
PRO-TIP: For all you future-military JROTC kids, when a sniper shoots your buddy, RUN THE FUCK AWAY. If you try to drag him to safety before figuring out where the sniper is and taking him out, your ass is going to get sniped too.

What the fuck does country have to do with anything?
I'm from Ireland. I think you are a sick fuck.
Seriously, what about the families of those guys. I guess that doesn't matter, they have life bars after all. That makes stuff funny right. Two guys getting killed a few thousand miles from home, spending their last few moments in savage pain crying out for whoever.
Really. Fucking. Funny.

nice one, aren't you funny
I was in JROTC for about a year and a half in High School. I quit because it was full of a bunch of pussies that thought they were training to be military badasses but couldn't do shit in reality. After meeting tons of people from all over the nation in college, that seems to be the case everywhere.
Especially when it came down to PT. JROTC kids always tried to brag about how tough PT was, so I joined and figured I'd see what it is all about. PT was piss easy, and when I was moved up to 1st Sgt. to lead the PT sessions, kids cried about how I was making it "impossibly hard" just because I was making them move around.
The whole "learning how to lead" thing is bullshit. It's more like "Do what I say or I'm gonna whine to the Colonel about you and you're gonna get demoted." None of the leadership exercises and shit we did were applicable to real world scenarios. I ended up having to take control of nearly every situation because I was the only person that knew how to deal with conflicting interests, skills I learned from being a linebacker in football.
Also, even though I was a 1st Sgt. for only a semester before I quit that bullshit program, the army came and did that stupid RFI deal that they do every 4 years or whatever. We scored like the 4th highest in the nation. I had facial hair and laughed when I was drilling my company and still got a perfect score. What a fucking pushover program.

because you're pathetic and not worth the effort
those pictures were utterly tasteless, internet or not, you should be ashamed

It is, yes.
They signed up for that shit themselves. Why should I pity them?

Basic human empathy. Some glimmer of emotion.
Jesus man you don't know why they are there. "LULz DEY SIGN UP DEIR FAULT" Isn't an answer. How many of them are there to support their families? How many of them have nothing else to do? How many of them think they are helping do the right thing.
Grow up.
Honestly all the values that are taught in ROTC programs I've taught myself. I don't need some drill instructor yelling at me for me to learn "leadership." I volunteer voluntarily, no pun intended, I can easily out-do all the people in the N.J.R.O.T.C. kids at my school, except for maybe a select few. Basically it's a way for all the social rejects to feel like they belong in some way. I'm a complete ass for saying that, but that's how it is at my school.
[editline]07:57PM[/editline]
And guys, stop feeding the troll.
Here at my school the ROTC is looked upon as nerdy but pretty much all of us are really cool and are great people. The only people we hate are the LET 1's that got promoted to Corporal and act all cocky.
I'm a Captain and a company commander and my kids love me but they say I scare them. We're one of the only battalions in our school district that have fun and enjoy each other.

Except tasteless isn't funny. It's tasteless. There is nothing funny about a guy helping his dieing buddy across the street while another lies by.

they didn't sign up for the express purpose to die. i love how everyone comes back with that, you shouldn't because it's stupid as fuck. people sign up for different reasons, whether it's financial aid for college, family tradition, etc etc. nobody enters the recruiter's office and goes, "yeah let's go get sniped in the 'stan."
