I'm about halfway through it now, it's better than I expected. Yes, Lou's vocals are hideous in places, but in others it just works. For example, towards the end of Pumping Blood the vocals get more and more agitated, and it sounds great.
Welp, I'm going to listen to Lulu now. Wish me luck
Good luck seriously Listened quickly.... my ears are still bleeding from this.
I'm through to "Frustration". I'm actually very surprised that I've made it this far. I've kind of listened to the vocals now and it doesn't seem to annoy me as much as i thought it would do from the previews. It's actually kind of cool. Metallica are good, Lars uses way too much crash though, and there are hardly any solos, but i'm impressed. It's surpassed my expectations, and in places is actually ok. It's a 7/10 so far. Cool riff at 6:28 in Frustraion. Wish some of the riffs could be on the actual Metallica record. Hope James's has saved some good ones!
Well, listened to Lulu in it's entierety too. And serisously guys, stop. It's not "a disaster". Heck, it's even good in some parts. 7/10 for me too. Just for fun, let's do a little survey. What's your favourite Lulu song ? As for me, it's an easy pick : Junior Dad. Fuck me, I can relate so much.
Heh, the ambient outro on Junior Dad is about 10 minutes long I think my favourite song is either The View or Iced Honey. That being said, Junior Dad is good too and Mistress Dread would be good if it weren't for the fact is was so repetitive.
Giving it a listen Did Lou say he'd cut his "legs and tits off?" :ohdear: When James sang "Small town girl!" I half expected the next lyric to be "Lonley World!" Lou.. You're drunk again! Give the mic back!
frustration has a really cool intro riff. Wish it had more of those moments though. It's actually kind of good. I'm really angry I don't hate it. I feel like I should but it's kind of growing on me already.
Guys, you gotta admit that even if Lou Reed is not the singer we expected, his lyrics are God damn incredible. I was amazed by them.
"spermless like a girl" incredible
Applying your judgement : Metallica made the song Frantic. In this song, many people didn't like the part where James said "FRAN-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TOC". Therefore, Metallica sucks at writing lyrics. A+ logic.
I am a table.

that's another problem with the record, at points it feels like an old beatnik reciting his poetry over metallica riffs [editline]21st October 2011[/editline] double post whoops
I'm sure at some point there is a lyric something along the lines of "a coloured man's penis" or something
I'm sure at some point there is a lyric something along the lines of "a coloured man's penis" or something
There is. It's in Pumping Blood and it's "coloured man's dick". I enjoyed it, and I shall be purchasing it when it comes out; odd of them to allow you to stream the whole album on the website, but I'll still be picking it up.

IIRC Foo Fighters and Mastodon did it with their most recent albums.

Junior Dad is really good so far for me.
I don't know, Lulu doesn't really do anything for me. I'll pass.
Lulu gave me a massive headache and an urge to throw up, and I was actually very positive when I started listening to it, hoping I'd get the idea of the detuned singing
Lulu gave me a massive headache and an urge to throw up, and I was actually very positive when I started listening to it, hoping I'd get the idea of the detuned singing
The vocals, repetitiveness, and the awfully long tracks ruined it. It's not that I don't like long songs, but when the are the previously mentioned, they suck.
Yeah isn't the record over an hour and a half fucking joke lmao
I swear, If I get a CD sized gift on Christmas and it turns out to be Lulu... I will say "Thank You" and do nothing.
2 CD's. Metallica realised that by including an extra CD, some fans may be inclined to expect more variety and actually listen to both in their entirety.

I would do the same. Release a double album, pack the first to full length then just have 1 song on the 2nd one.
Band I know called Naked Shit released a 83 minute ambient black metal track, specifically made that length so it just couldn't fit on a CD
If I was a band, I would definitely have an album with a "Bonus CD" it would just be a blank Memorex Disc
this is seriously the best idea ever

have you never listened to a cannibal corpse song
