i'm more surprised about the lack of 4K textures, really Nintendo????
And no widescreen support? What is this, 2002?
Half of this thread feels like an average discussion on /v/.
That's dirt cheap. I hope more games will come.
Afaik it doesn't have internet connectivity. So, no. Maybe a SNES classic.
see this post. there is a huge market for streamlined and plug-and-play stuff like this, and you'd be surprised how many parents in their 50s would love this kinda thing, considering emulators and shit like that are basically black magic to them. it also is useful for 7-11 year olds who want to get into nes shit cause they saw avgn or something but don't want to "break their parents computer" cause they downloaded roms from a sketchy website. of course, we millenials can easily understand how to do this stuff on our own, but again, we're literally breaking the law by downloading roms, regardless how petty you think that might be. it's not just for the collector who wants nintendo stuff, it has it's fair use too. of course, it's not the be-all end-all solution and it's not going to be hailed as the greatest invention by nintendo, but there is plenty of a market for this kinda thing. with the right marketing, i can see this being a big hit for nintendo. besides, people like that nostalgic shit. nostalgia sells like hotcakes, see hot topics merchandise if you don't believe me.
To be completely honest, albeit anecdotal. I've seen the opposite. People with a healthy interested of their youth have invested in attaining that again wheter it be literally setting up the actual console or employing emulators. I even had my own mother request to reenable my note 3 cell phone in order to run nostalgia.nes as while there are better emulators on pc android and even apple offer super straightforward solutions just taps away. A great deal of the games my own mother was interested were held by companies that haven't existed in years (not bought out or absorbed but literally nonexistant now) As for the market for kids who watch these games on let's plays, most of them will stick to let's plays. They try out arcade titles on the wii, in fact im pretty sure most kids who want this will not have watched lets plays but isntead played nes games on that medium instead. It's a cheap trinket that offers them momentary joy only to be quickly forgotten. I dont think it's fair to really say ninendo doesnt see this as anything but a collectors edition with no real marketshare aside from people wanting to relive old memories, not make new ones. They already have that market through digital releases. You even say it yourself people love nostalgic shit which agrees with my post. It's a neat collectors item. Anyone interested in these games has already played them through both legal and illegal means. This is cashing in on nostalgia and nothing but. No rekindling aspect here, doubly so given the current state of games seeking retro gameplay and style. The marketing for this is plain and simple. This system as it is, has existed many times over through cheap systems that cost literally 5 dollars that offer almost practically the same thing, plug and play immediate play with upscaling of the textures. None of these games are actually remastered. All this is is a collectors peice of hardware that has existed for decades at any local game store (even gamestops sells emulation consoles that have 100 games built in with hdmi and upscaling) but instead of in a non generic packaging this has a nintendo seal on it.
