It's mostly an aesthetics thing. [editline]21st September 2013[/editline] Unless it's specifically setup for a track.
It's mostly an aesthetics thing. [editline]21st September 2013[/editline] Unless it's specifically setup for a track.
well of course it'd have to have better air flow but I guess that's reasonable, if the track is flat, obviously you won't have any issues my car's average low for a car and some times I pick up sticks and beer boxes in the road with the bottom :v:
I saw this thread and always wondered what the hell is up with low cars? What are the benefits? Though I guess massive boost in aerodynamics, but it looks unhealthy to me :v: just curious, not that I'm getting one.
the idea is lower center of gravity means less body roll, but for most of the cars here it's all aesthetics.
the idea is lower center of gravity means less body roll, but for most of the cars here it's all aesthetics.
AKA better air flow + less body roll meaning greatly increased sense of control and hopefully more "Bang for your buck" in the performance thank you
Lowering a car correctly costs quite a lot of money. :v:
AKA better air flow + less body roll meaning greatly increased sense of control and hopefully more "Bang for your buck" in the performance thank you
Well usually the only real way to "lower" a vehicle is to update and upgrade it's suspension systems and geometry to accommodate the modified stance. These upgrades are way past stock specifications and at times may even be better and stronger in the long run. Things like reinforced control arms that have more travel, less bushing slop (because they run solid spherical steel bearings) and are far more beefy and rigid than stock arms. They can also feature links and bearings that you can change or upgrade some more when they wear, adding to the cost-effectiveness and maintenance capability compared to stock suspension arms. They are also incredibly light; when it comes to track time, you would want a very light car so you engine can perform it essential functions without being bogged down. Which means that these cars can handle much more strain and force exerted upon it's frame during braking, cornering, accelerating and usage during high-speeds. The lower stance increases aerodynamics and improves the overall performance of the vehicle's mobility. Using upgraded suspension components also modifies their original location, attachment points and function. Meaning that stock components will no longer fit. One thing would be the wheels. Some arms protrude and extend past stock lengths so you are able to use a bigger diameter wheel as well as a wheel with more width. This increases the surface are that the tires can grip, again, increasing the performance of braking, acceleration and cornering abilities of the vehicle. They also are equipped with either track coilover systems or airbag systems. I'd say you can split the look in two categories. Function or form. 1) Function: Purely for updating the vehicle's performance and handling capability past stock specifications. It just happens to look cool. (IE like that E30 or S13's before with extended steering angles). Usually necessary to meet stringent race track and race organization requirements for safety and capability; for people that require their car to perform in any motorsports. Think Nascar status. and 2) Form: the sole goal is to meet a certain ideal of visual taste and in order to do so involves heavy modification of the vehicle. At times this renders the vehicle useless and it hinders their capability to perform. These are purely for visual enjoyment and the people that use them usually just like to use it for their daily driving and for visual competitions and shows. At times they may be unsafe to drive and can be quite dangerous; think ratrods and Volkswagen stance crowd Kind of like the comparison between a track car or a VIP car

My brother lowered his car since he likes to drift it at events and whatnot. It gives much more control while drifting.
Are any of those his? Slow progress on it due to finances, but he keeps adding things he wants to it over time.
tsurikawa
What?
tsurikawa (roughly translated as train handle); very popular in the drift subculture in Japan, particularly the bosozoku crowd where they use these train handles to measure how low their car is by attaching it to their towhooks. They are almost always the same length -about 4 inches in strap and 2-3 inches in the plastic ring- so they are a good comparison between different vehicles: Some stupid cunts here in the USA mistake this tradition by assuming it is a "drift charm" and put stuffed toys or plushies on their towhooks.
