One nitpick: it appears that the British soldiers are using WW2 gas masks with no filters/air

Actual WW2 British gas masks looked like this

That detail makes my inner WWI British Reenactor cringe.
Still hype though
is that a stock footage gun sound?

Like I said, American.
I have a good feeling they will.
I'm just hoping the EA tag won't damn the game. I kinda want this game to work.
EA hasn't been the whole "Haha, DAE TIL EA a bad company xD, worst company of all time in X poll???" type of company for a while now. I think the new game will probably be really good.

Oh I don't think that, but they still have a reputation. And as such, I'm going to simply be mindful of it while I keep my eye on this game.
Don't think I'll pre-order though, that slot so far is reserved for Dishonored 2.
Like I said, American.
America still used the SBR though (Small Box Respirator).
No it isn't? The engine just plays the animations, it doesn't create them or dictate how they look.
Frostbite uses a very robust animation blending system that was originally created for EA's Sports games. It definitely gives the games using it a distinctive look and feel IMO.

That, except he explained it better then my half-assed attempt
is that a stock footage gun sound?
It's the same sound effect that the M60 in GTA: Vice City uses. I think its also used in Left 4 Dead 2 though I'm not sure.

If they used new animations for everything you wouldn't know the difference but the running animation is definitely the same one from BF4 albeit tweaked slightly.
There's plenty of engines that achieve the same level of blending that Frostbite does.
"In-game footage".
I find that highly unlikely, but I have been wrong before.

I don't think Battlefield ever uses not in-game footage. This definitely is.

Battlefront's upgrades make the frostbite engine look spectacular. It's probably the only positive thing about Battlefront tbh.

Yes there are, and they all their own way of doing things.
Between the swords, whacking dudes with shovels, and that sick ass spiked trench club, I'm really interested to see what they're gonna do for this game, it kinda looks like melee will have a special niche this time around
Edit:
Oh fuck I just looked at their website, you can do bayonet charges. Holy fuck that is COOL
The problem that i have with BF1 right now is the abundance of automatic weaponary and yet the apparant focus on melee. Automatic weapons and melee should be a field day for the player with the gun. But the way they're pushing melee makes me worry that it'll have some sort of gameplay contrivance to it to make it viable.

Well it's mentioned there's going to be class gameplay most likely, so Auto weapons will be for only certain people. Plus, you can always just try to sneak up on someone and bash their skull in from behind.
Probably wanted "clean and smooth" looking gas masks to look badass for trailers and shit, rather than kinda lumpy like the real WWI masks.
Honestly a gas mask is a gas mask.
it irks me that they just omit the respirator hose like that willy nilly
without a hose it makes no sense... all the filter components are in the gas bag on his chest so... :psyduck:
makes you wonder what other 'shortcuts' they have taken

Not like I'm gonna slam them for it. They gotta make the first real AAA WWI FPS look good for the non-gamers. I'm certain the Flying and Ship battles will be kinda arcady, but I understand from Dice and EA's point of view.
I'm just waiting for gameplay to see if it's worth it for me.

Thing is, Frostbyte's animation system is a bit of a jury-rigged monster. It can blend a really high number of animations together in a dynamic fashion but at a certain point it kind of goes haywire. Stuff like my characters left wrist doing a 360 if you spot something while holding C4 or some shit or the knuckles being completely bent out of shape if you crawl while holding your knife. It's extremely impressive technology but it really has some distinct "Frostbyte" quirks.

The gas mask is something you voluntarily put on in game, not a baked in part of your character model. So since it comes on and off, it was probably a pain for them to animate the hose properly.
The flamethrower guy in the trailer has a hose on his mask, probably because he's always wearing it.

Hype for tomorrow is real.
I hope that bodies have player clipping and never disappear so that you can have walls of your comrades to use as cover, true to WW1.
I wouldn't mind it as a clientside option at the very least. Not enough multiplayer games have ways to leave tons of corpses on the ground. Even if there wasn't collision.

what if your buddy dies as he's walking through a doorway and effectively blocks it off for everyone else :v:

you should be able to pick up bodies and stack them up on the enemy's spawn.
