https://imgur.com/a/X8CKK Lazy smartphone photos are huge apparently so I'm just gonna link the album :v: EDIT: accidentally made an album of thumbnails whoops, new link to bigger images Some of the patches I own, sewn onto a pair of coveralls (called Flightsuits in my university) and 2 that I intend to sew on later tonight Anyone have experience/advice with sewing on velcro-backed patches? Been thinking of ordering some patches but I don't think velcro will stick to the material, so I want to be able to sew them in as well.

Most patch sellers have the Velcro portion sewed onto the patch, so if you're pretty exact you remove those threads to separate Velcro and patch. The other option is to take the loop backing most patch Velcro is already attached to when sent, and sew the loop portion itself to whatever clothing you use.

Absolute fucking madman.
Patches can be a slippery slope, I mean look how innocently I started: [t]https://my.mixtape.moe/brdmhm.jpg[/t]
Am I the only one who mostly has real patches?
Am I the only one who mostly has real patches?
No, But I only have 3 at the moment!
Am I the only one who mostly has real patches?
I personally am hesitant to collect patches of real units and mos because I am a bit concerned about stolen valor. Even though I don't wear some of those patches out, I don't ever want to imply that I served or spent time in a military organization when I haven't. Even having the generic Marine Corps tag and circle makes me a bit uncomfortable.
Only real patches i have are ones I've either worn myself or traded for. I'd show em but it would be easy to identify me [editline]7th February 2018[/editline] Fron a military perspective I dont see any issue with collecting, but actually putting them on a uniform (evrn something like airsoft) is no bueno. But that's just me

I recently got these BW unit patches. I wouldn't view it as stolen valour at all unless I was going out and wearing them. [t]https://i.imgur.com/pHPgVrf.jpg[/t] Speaking of 'real' patches, my dad actually has a few patches that he brought back from the 1st GW which I'll dig out and take some pictures of at some point.
You should probably explain those terms, since most people won't know about Germany.
dug em out, these are my dads from the 1st GW: [t]https://i.imgur.com/pXdvsb1.jpg[/t] [editline]7th February 2018[/editline]
You should probably explain those terms, since most people won't know about Germany.
I still need to research them myself, but I know the one on the bottom left says 'Sports school of the Bundeswehr'
Well you could have mentioned that "BW" means Bundeswehr, which is the German military. Dunno what a GW is.

Oh hell yeah [T]https://i.imgur.com/G10Y2Ru.jpg[/t]
Anyone know if there's any alternatives to these SHD patches?
Well you could have mentioned that "BW" means Bundeswehr, which is the German military. Dunno what a GW is.
Sorry, GW is Gulf War
Here's some OC from me, one of the few patches I can post here without worrying since it's entirely fictional:
This is all your fault Richard. [editline]8th February 2018[/editline] Also Richard, do you happen to recall where you got that astronaut (the one with the fucking GAU-19) patch from? Didn't know it was a real thing, I saw it in the game Heliborne (NASA chinook skin).
I just want to clarify something: I don't have a problem of people posting actual unit patches, earned, inherited, purchased, or otherwise. I was just explaining why I don't personally collect and post them. I felt like if I had them on my wall someone would go "Hey buddy, you served/did/were at..." and I don't want to even imply I did any of those things. It's a fun hobby, and as I've said in the OP, many people have patches for many reasons. And there are also reasons that I don't have patches is all. I'm not judging or prohibiting anyone else from posting them- it's encouraged to share! [editline]7th February 2018[/editline]
This is all your fault Richard.
I'm sorry (not really) :v: . Please patch responsibly.
[editline]8th February 2018[/editline] Also Richard, do you happen to recall where you got that astronaut (the one with the fucking GAU-19) patch from? Didn't know it was a real thing, I saw it in the game Heliborne (NASA chinook skin).
I can, but that's going to be a bit of a post, so give me a bit to dig up my receipts and I'll make a big post about it.
Buying from AliExpress So I've briefly mentioned it in the OP, but there's also one more place to purchase patches from, and that's right from the Chinese manufacturers. More specifically Alibaba's individual retail website, AliExpress. If you though ebay and etsy might be sketchy, this is a whole nother risk. On the surface, Ali offers the same buyer protections most other websites do- but if anything goes wrong it's up in the air if they, or the manufacture, will actually do anything about it. Despite that huge risk disclaimer, you might be wondering why any sane person would take that gamble. And the reason is, with anything buying straight from china, the incredibly low prices. You can get the same dude-bro tacticool popular patches on mainstream patch websites (not the sort of stuff I've listed in the OP, but they're out there) for half or a third of the price on Ali. For example, this Space Shuttle Door Gunner patch that you can find for $6-$8 elsewhere I bought six months ago for $3. The price on Ali has since gone up, but there's still low low prices to be found on other shops. Craziest deal was these two umbrella pvc patches for $1.35 a piece. [t]https://my.mixtape.moe/ulmfsg.PNG[/t] I mean, wow that's cheap. And they're both great patches. Ali is also sketch because I'm pretty sure they run "exclusive" designs for western patch shops that have contracted them to make the patches, and then resell extras, blemishes, or just produce what's popular. And you're not really sure what quality you're going to get. I was lucky in that the ten patches I ordered from four different sellers on there, all of them turned out to be quality at a fantastic price, but your millage may vary. But it's a telling sign when one of those sellers has completely disappeared six months later. All that being said, the shops I bought from that I was happy with were Ihome Art, Incool Co., and Yu&Jia Patch Factory I had a good experience with them, but always buy at your own risk, especially from china. But hey, the way I looked at it when I ordred, if it all went wrong I would have lost $1.50 on a patch? That's nothing.
Can also vouch for AliExpress. I've bought loads of stuff from it as you pretty much can't find cheaper repro airsoft gear anywhere else since you're essentially buying straight from the manufacture. I've had a 100% success rate over ~20 items, only once have I returned something and that was because I ordered a size that I thought would fit but didn't (entirely my own fault). Everything else has arrived as described, with package tracking as well. The only caveat is that my orders have taken on average about 4-5 weeks to arrive (from China to the midwest US), so if you don't need something by a certain time it works great. [editline]7th February 2018[/editline] AliExpress will also take your side on disputes: [editline]7th February 2018[/editline] im uh totally not a chinese ecommerce shill either yeah

I'm a big fan of the MGS series but lean more towards patches from groups like Diamond Dogs or Philanthropy that are more artistic rather than ones like MSF or Foxhound that look more like actual units. I don't know if it's misplaced stolen valor, thinking that I'll look like a tacticool tryhard, or if I just need to get over myself. Plus stuff with skulls gives me a sort of "are we the baddies"/edgelord uneasy feeling. Like, I'd wear a Cyberdyne patch but not a T-800 skull? I dunno. So this is why my store was getting traffic from facepunch.com 'Sup guys.
No FP patches, no deal.
Damn, didn't expect this thread to grow a whole lot with the merchants themselves hopping in. Should really start my own collection soon.
