Depends on what scent you're wearing and how much it really matters to you to be honest. If you like smelling a nice smell every now and again then go for it. Some people also wear signature scents so that somebody knows you're coming from behind or whatever, you know just a scent they associate with you. To decide you'd be better smelling it yourself and then selecting something based on whether you like it since it's gonna be you wearing it.
Personally I like woody, musky scents but that's just my opinion.

What you should do is go into a store with your girlfriend (or some girls if you don't have a girlfriend), try on some colognes and see which one you prefer and see if they like it. Then you keep a note of the name of it, go to an online store and buy a bottle of it.
Cologne is much much cheaper when you buy online. A 100ml bottle should last you between 6-12 months and cost approx $60. I use mine (Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio) every day and makes me smell oh so nice. I mean, you gotta use it every day if you want your 'smell'. All my friends say I smell nice all the time haha.
