If your poor you can always go to primark on the rare occassion they actually have really decent stuff. They change their stock like every week so it's pretty hit n miss though.

Was, not anymore, i can afford to go get new clothes now.
whats the opinion on converse shoes or others of the like?
a lot of people don't like them in this thread because they look like 'clown shoes' but I think that is pretty retarded. they are great shoes and as long as you get a neutral enough design look great. not to mention their direct competitor shoe, vans, are very poorly made in comparison.
[editline]16th November 2012[/editline]
my new vans are holding up very terribly and all the rubber is almost completely detached. compared to my year older pair of converse that i wear to work, which are completely intact despite being almost totally black from dirt.
If you have skinny legs(you're a facepuncher, so ofc you have) don't get converse.
If you're not a facepuncher get all the converse your wallet can handle(and conscience what with them being made from chinese panda tears)
Vans and converse have always lasted the same time with me. But I prefer the thicker sole on vans.

what? i dont think it has anything to do with skinny legs
i think it has more to do with whether or not you are ugly
in which case it doesn't really matter what you buy
Well, cutting suits and blazers and other formal wear, what else could be added to make it a good baseline guide? I feel like it would help to have something general.
I don't really think there is a general guide for ANYONE. If you like an item of clothing and it suits you, buy it. Everyone has a different style. For example, I suit graphic tees, so I have graphic tees. But I don't suit boots, so I don't wear boots.
You don't have to wear a hat all the time, they don't even suit you
Also horrendously tryhard and not funny
But is this a baseline starter thing or a long term thing? I'm confused about that
I think it can be both.
-For someone who has none of it, it can a place to start (for example, "oh, I can go and pick up a pair or two of pants and some shirts today and get a start on this", and a sort of plan for the future.
For someone who already has some of it, it can be more of a "these are the things I have, and these are the things I still need to get/work on"
I suppose an "essentials/basics" category would be a good idea, but I think that depends on one's budget.
Props for going for the peacoat though, I've got mine hanging up next to me, one of the best purchases I've made clothing wise in a while. What're your opinions on Pinstripe suits as opposed to solid color?
[editline]15th November 2012[/editline]
oh that's @ grasp by the way
for apple-jizzle, uh i guess it's all okay (except that final shirt) but you gotta lose that hat
I personally don't care for black or navy pinstripe suits, but that is really just me.
I find they make me look rather odd, and make my legs seem longer than they are (which is pretty long.)
Although, I do have a certain fondness for a grey pinstripe suit with a waistcoat, such as this.

But I mean as a place to start for someone who comes into the thread and basically says they need a place to start, I think a general guide would be a good idea. There is room to experiment when the basics are achieved, but I think that having a baseline idea of what to buy at least at first would be a good idea.
i don't really think watches, dress socks, and two pairs of the same kind of shoe are things that a teen or young adult needs to have in his wardrobe..

Earlier in the page, I said something about cutting all of the formal attire/accessories.
So cutting suits/brogues/watches/dress socks.

though once you stop growing you should at least have one suit, probably more formal like a straight black
and maybe buy some stuff that's not brown or grey?
there is nothing wrong with standing out, you shouldn't be looking for a "standard" selection of clothes everyone should have. Everyone seems to be looking for "guidelines" in this thread, while there really aren't any since fashion is subjective.
You can share your visions on fashion and discuss it with others and use this however you want. You, and so many others in this thread, seem to want to put everyone in the same box, while there is so much to discover and try.

there is only one universal truth to fashion:
fitted clothes are more flattering than poorly fitting clothes

Clothes are better when they are fitted, because then they are (or look) the way they were intended to look. But some looks still call for baggy clothing items.
i agree though.

well there's an exception to every rule, but the most general rule of thumb when it comes to fashion is "make sure it fits"
Those looks incredibly hipster-ish.
I mean seriously, v-neck jumpers?
How is this hipster at all (what even is hipster)? it's a jumper, and it has a v neck... like a lot of jumpers have, it's one of the most conservative pieces of clothing that i've ever seen.
knitted ties seems pretty cool, never seen them before.
The word hipster has completely lost its meaning (if it ever had one to begin with).

Thanks for the help man!
Not a problem in the slightest bro, happy to help.
Right, starting with the jeans; The croshatch ones don't look too bad, but because it looks like you've got a reasonably skinny build, try some skinny or slim fit ones on in topman or somewhere like that and see what you think of them, just because if you wear quite baggy jeans, with a skinny frame you end up looking like a triangle, ha! (I have the opposite problem, I've got really skinny legs but broad shoulders so i look the same, but the other way up.)
After you've found the happy medium - I'd say for you it will be slim fitting, have a look around places and definitely try asos (you'll get really cheap to quite expensive branded stuff on there).
Are the levi's too big in the leg, waist or too baggy?
Next the t-shirts; those ones aren't too bad, I quite like the bottle cap one actually, and Superdry is a good brand if you wear it right.
A couple I like that I think you wouldn't look bad in are:

But those are personal opinions. Anyway, t-shirts are really hard to get wrong, as long as you can make it work with what else you are wearing no problem.
Cool, now the shirts;
Right, to be honest I wouldn't wear any of the ones in your wardrobe. And because its getting colder and wintery, long sleeves all the way, you can even wear the same ones rolled up in summer.
I know its very expensive, but Ralph Lauren almost never produces a bad shirt. I would recommend an oxford, or small check/plaid shirt like these two (both ralphy, but you can find very similar ones cheap - I picked up an oxford shirt the other day for just £10, and I wear it as much as my RL ones.)

Oxford:

I've just pulled these off the asos website, after a five minute browse so there are plenty of nice ones about. Also for shirts, try topman's website. Depending on where you live you might find some alright ones in there, but I'm not a huge fan of topman.
Now for jackets.
To be brutally honest, I don't like that first purple hoody at all. In my opinion, the branding is far far too in your face, and the cut doesn't really suit you. However, the brown jacket looks great. I'd wear that open with a t-shirt under that if I were you (your coke one maybe?).
Right, some jackets that I like and I think might go with everything else I've shown you so far are:

Peacoats are pretty classic, just don't wear baggy jeans with them. They are a classic look, so make sure the rest of you is looking good if you're wearing one - a shirt underneath, smart shoes.
If you noticed my parka above, if not here it is:

I love this jacket to bits (yes it is me in it), it will keep you warm all winter and looks pretty good (i hope!)
As well as this, if you don't want a longer jacket, have a look at some waxed coats - barbour do nice ones, expensive mind and everyone will be wearing them. Or you could try a brand like Howick.
You can't go wrong with some Kalvins, so well done there! Personally if I were you, start wearing more shirts, I think you'd look pretty good in them. You can wear them however you like as well, buttoned all the way up, open collar, open over a t-shirt anyway you want!
I hope this has helped dude, and you like most of the stuff I have shown you. Remember, that it is your style, so I can help you out but it is upto what you think you look good in and feel comfortable in!
Have a look around on some websites -asos.com (their marketplace is pretty good), tkmaxx.com may have some nice stuff on occasionally, try selfridges, jack wills maybe, have a look at hollister and A&F. Look at some Paul Smith and PRL. But do post a couple of pictures so we can see what you like etc, and we can give you a yes/no/recommend!

Larger lens glasses, shirt colors to compliment your skin tone and hair color (work with browns, earth tones really, avoid accent colors)
