Spielberg, Joss Whedon, Neil Blomkamp, Peter Jackson, Christopher Nolan, Danny Boyle and James Cameron.
Those are god-tier for me.
Danny Boyle - Truely great british talent who can diversify and spread his genres, while maintaining a fantastic level of quality among his films. 28 Days Later, Trainspotting and Slumdog to name a few. And yes, I even loved Sunshine.
Ridley Scott - Alien, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down...nuff said.
Christopher Nolan - Batman movies, Inception, Memento.
You know what, looking at my list, British directors are talented bastards. An no ones mentiones Danny Boyle yet?
Stanley Kubrick.. R.I.P
The coen brothers. I count them as one director.
Two sides of the same coin.. or rather coein
I think a better op would be whats your favorite directing style, choosing one director over another is like saying "whats your favorite film, its usually like 2-3"
Werner Herzog

Roman Polanski

Say what you like about the perverted little imp, he's rather good at making films.
David Cronenberg

I'm glad they are behind the camera and not in front of it :funny:
No love for Alfred Hitchcock?
everyone likes him but he's no one's favourite
I'll have to go for Andrei Tarkovsky.

He's been my favorite for years now.
Charlie Chaplin was a FANTASTIC director.
Don Bluth. Animation still has directors so don't pull that BS.

I also quite like Christopher Nolan but more for Memento and Insomnia and the Prestige than for Dark Knight and Inception.
George Romero
I like Guy Ritchie
I hope people realize that George Lucas should be in the running for worst director of all time.
Hell, he wanted Han Solo to be a vampire. The only good Star Wars film directed by him was A New Hope, which he practically didn't even direct because the people supplying the money for the film were turning down more than half of his retarded ideas.
Charlie Chaplin was a FANTASTIC director.
He was a fantastic everything, actor, director, and composer.
[editline]lol[/editline]
My personal favorite directors are Nolan and Aronofsky.
Spielberg
Every time I try to start thinking of all the classic movies he's made I get lost and my mind is blown, dude is a legend
He may rape bitches, but he's a great director,
Roman Polanski
Steven Spielberg or James Cameron.
Quintin Tarantino:
Reservoir Dogs (1992)
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Kill Bill, Vol. 1 (2003)
Kill Bill, Vol. 2 (2004)
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
I haven't seen his other movies though...
Jackie Brown is better than half of those.
[editline]14th February 2011[/editline]
And really, no love for Hayao Miyazaki???
Animation films have directors, don't forget.
Oh not forgetting Snyder and Fincher.
Sergio Leone :buddy:
Danny Boyle.
Impossible to decide between these four:
John Ford
David Lean
Alfred Hitchcock
Sergio Leone
