.
Paintball is, in most people's opinions, better because of the variation of one variation of the sport: Speedball. Speedball isn't played in the woods, it's played on inflatable, about 40-60 yd fields that usually mirror at the middle of the field. This variation is faster paced, which is why I prefer paintball. Here's a video, demonstrating a game between two of arguably the best teams to ever exist:

Paintball is also found more fun for some simply because of the concept of paintballs themselves. It's hard to describe, but many people find the fact that you're shooting balls filled with paint that explode on impact to be more interesting that shooting a simple BB.
Airsoft is preferred simply because of how cheap it is. It isn't more realistic, as you can easily purchase paintball guns that look like real military weapons. Paintball also has explosives, such as paint grenades, grenade launchers, etc. However, if you have a steady job, paintball shouldn't be too hard to afford. It should only cost like $50-70 a week to play, which is more, or the equivalent to a single day's pay (for most people).
You're retarded if you like one sport because it doesn't/does hurt more.
The above should end nearly all debate.
I find you can cheat airsoft way WAY to easily. In paintball you get tagged with a lot of paint so its all good.
Paintball also has explosives.
So does airsoft.

Not really at all, at least not for me. That video was pretty much men hiding behind inflatable things spraying paintballs around. I enjoy paintball, but I like the idea of airsoft more.
So does airsoft.
I was responding to how someone was pointing out that airsoft was better because it had explosives by stating that paintball also had explosives. I can see how that can get misinterpreted though.

1)Yes airsoft is cheaper, that's not why we prefer it but it is definitely a plus.
2)It was way more realistic, even a $100 airsoft gun is more realistic than the $450+ paintball guns that look sort of like the real thing, they're still not replicas. For those of us that know what a real M4/M16/AK47 looks like, the paintball versions of those guns just look retarded as apposed to realistic.
2.5)The magazines for the magazine fed paintball guns have 18 rounds and cost $30-40.
3)There are airsoft explosives, airsoft grenades, airsoft grenade launchers. Airsoft has a shitload more variety than paintball. We even have different sized BB's like paintball has different sized paintballs.
4)I pay $28 a month, then $30 every couple months for BBs. Paintball is fucking expensive.

If you bothered to read what I typed, you'd know that I wasn't bashing airsoft in any way, shape, or form. I simply prefer paintball. If you're going to rage over someone saying they prefer something different than you, you need to grow up.
Who plays because of how the gun looks? Paintball is just as realistic in the sense of scenario play.
Not really. Guns play a large role in realism.
Not really. Guns play a large role in realism.
Okay: Airsoft guns look more realistic than most paintball guns.
Not a huge upper hand.
Pretty huge in my books. I'd rather be able to feel the nice wood finish of my M14 over the 'hopper' and CO2 tank on the monstrosity that is called a paintball gun.
2) I myself am pretty picky on the externals of my gun. Ugly gun = no buy. Or ugly gun for crazy low price, and at least we can upgrade them with either near exact replica parts, or real firearm parts.
2.5) Hoppers are ugly. And unrealistic. And prevent use of sights.
3) Well it does. CQBR's, carbines, rifles, snipers, LMGs, SAWs, HMGs, Miniguns, Rocket launchers, Grenade launchers, mortars, shotguns, etc etc.
airsoft doesn't hurt
paintball does
be a man
I love the guns in airsoft, how realistic and cool they are. But I love paintball just for the fun factor of playing with my friends who I go to school with.

If the looks of the gun are the only upper hand airsoft has, then that's not too swell.
You don't have to have a hopper on the top of your gun.
Paintball has all those listed weapons.
Where did I say that was the only upper hand?
Hoppers are annoying, the end. I see no reason to use a hopper when I can use a magazine in airsoft.
For like 10x the price.
airsoft doesn't hurt

You are trolling, right? Airsoft hurts too, often times just the same as paintball.

Well, so far, it seems the only upper hand is airsoft being ever so slightly more realistic and a good bit cheaper.
Hoppers aren't annoying actually, it adds a nice weight to your gun, making it more comfortable. Sort of like how a Wiimote's batteries make it slightly weighted to the point where it feels good swinging it around.
I like both really. Paintball in Arizona is pretty intense because of the heat( in my opinion). I don't own a paintball gun, but I own 4 Airsoft guns 2 springs crappy pistols as my first and some nice ones a fully automatic its a Russian machine pistol forgot name only holds around 50 bbs though and an m4 with extra clips.
I love how the guy above you calls someone ignorant, then you go off and post that.
Airsoft guns often weigh more than paintball guns. There are gas blow back rifles, GBBRs, in the airsoft world that have quite a kick to them (If they're of quality). Most don't use them because they're a bit more complicated, and require more maintenance and cleaning, and are a tad bit more expensive than electric guns.
Paintball isn't more realistic, and you get the same adrenaline rush from both.
And ascetic doesn't make sense in that sentence. Did you mean aesthetic? Paintball more aesthetically realistic than airsoft?
And seriously...what? Paintballs don't shoot farther than BBs? And lobbing them at a 45 degree angle doesn't count.
Way to not read and enterprite my post.Paintballs go much, much farther than BBs while still retaining energy.
Your BB could go off past 50 meters for all I care, but plastic BBs simply do not have the mass to retain adequate energy at a distance. Air resistance simply slows them down really quickly. paintballs are more susceptible to curving because of the spin on the projectile, but at 100 meters, a paintball will still retain energy, and airsoft pellet will not.
By ascetic realism, I mean more realistic in a psychological sense. A person is more likely to respond as they would in a more real situation when the paintball has enough energy to break blood vessels; with airsoft there's no fear of the projectiles beyond them making you go "out". There's a lot more anger, suspense, and frustration playing paintball, which is another thing I like. I was trying to be polite and understanding about people airsoft preferences, but since you're being an ass anyways, I think airsoft (the activity, not the equiptment) is an outright joke. You've got a bunch of man-boys with far too much expendable income buying up a bunch of psedo-military bullshit so they can pretend they are in a warzone; despite the fact that they are shooting each other with low power plastic BBs. With the sheer volume of military clothing some players wear, it'd be surprised if they could feel the shots at all. It's like outdoor laser tag.
I've played airsoft with little neighborhood skirmishes before, and I've played paintball in a proper outdoor establishment. My memorable moments from airsoft: none. There's nothing quite like playing paintball in the woods. You're hiding behind wooden pallets, you can hear paintballs ripping through the trees, and slamming into nearby boards. Every time it goes quiet, you and buddy pop up and rain a hail of paintballs at enemy players running through the green and watch as they get shot up by them. I wouldn't mind airsoft so much if I would't feel like such a dork playing it. Airsoft is taken way too seriously, it doesn't hurt, the shots can often be so low powered that they can be deflected by leaves and small branches. As I said before, if a game inbetween airsoft and paintball could be made, using the airsoft mechanism, but with 12 mm paintballs, I'd play it. The pain of paintball, with the ballistic accuracy of airsoft.

There is your problem. Go to a real game and tell me it isn't intense.

Don't tell me that doesn't look intense.
I saw the military insignia, then I saw "based on an actual event," then I stopped watching because I felt embarrassed for the players. :sigh:
Obviously a select few here have a different interpretation of what makes something intense. For me, it's no pain-no gain. I think air soft is better suited for CQB stuff because you don't need to go all balls out with organization, and at close range airsoft hurts a lot more than it does at 40-50 meters.

That would be nice if the hopper weren't obtrusive in the extreme. Think about it man. It just dosn't look like it belongs anywhere near a gun of any description.
Since all of you guys are talking about realism I might as well post pictures from Sunday's event for those who haven't been to an actual event outside their backyard/woods and want to get an idea. I can't wait until paintball season though

How do you know how much airsoft hurts if you've only played backyard games? The guns that were being used were probably cheap guns that were not powerful enough to hurt at all. I used to paintball and I can say that the pain is pretty close for both sports.

CPX in Illinois. It was the largest event of the midwest. Last year I was at a 400 man game and I thought that was big but 600 takes the cake
