These things are the best way to sort the army into groups, in my opinion. There's a huge difference between a soldier that'll carry a flamethrower willingly and a soldier that won't.
I sometimes wonder how flamethrowers even got adopted by the military, aside from being dangerous it's kinda sick and barbaric. I guess that's war though.

Flamethrowers were mostly used to demoralize the enemy.
No-one wants to burn to death. Flamethrowers are scary motherfuckers.
