i got goosebumps when i heard funeral
Honestly, I feel like that last great album was Ok Computer. There's some really good shit out since 1999, but if you are talking album as a whole, Ok Computer really took the cake for me. Please understand that this is just an opinion, and should have no baring on others' tastes.

Very worthy albums can be found in the 2000s catalogue.
The thing we have to look at, is are people having great experiences with music these days? I'm not talking about the "having it in the background" crap or "this is my style" malarkay... I mean do people get goosebumps any more?
the monitor still gives me goose bumps
the monitor still gives me goose bumps
Fucking good album. :v:
I dunno, in terms of quality I don't think music as a whole has really changed much since like whenever. Although quality is obviously entirely subjective. I don't think many albums will ever pierce the "public consciousness" the way they used to a la dark side of the moon or sgt. pepper's ever again though.
Lists http://rateyourmusic.com/customchart?page=1&chart_type=top&type=album&year=1970s&genre_include=1&genres=&include=both&origin_countries=&limit=none&countries= I can count at least 30 legendary albums there. http://rateyourmusic.com/customchart?page=1&chart_type=top&type=album&year=1990s&genre_include=1&genres=&include=both&origin_countries=&limit=none&countries= A bit less with the 90s, but still some very significant albums in the industry here. http://rateyourmusic.com/customchart?page=1&chart_type=top&type=album&year=2000s&genre_include=1&genres=&include=both&origin_countries=&limit=none&countries= Barely 2 or 3, although a load there are significant to their respective genres.
there's good music in the mainstream still the only reason you think that the past had predominantly good music in the mainstream was because you don't remember the shit, and i'd even argue that a lot of the old mainstream music people latch on today is quite overrated at best(i'm looking at you, AC/DC)
I do remember the shit, it was still more dominant then more because of how the media was structured than anything. even commercialized sell out artists like the monkees had some integrity. also you don't know shit about ac/dc [editline]10th May 2011[/editline]
It will be back. Sigur Ros is selling more, so is Porcupine Tree, Arcade Fire and such.
whoaaaa okay sigur ros is "selling more" doesn't mean anything. Arcade Fire I can see, but porcupine tree? come on. Don't be so sure of yourself. You get one band or a fair group of bands that break through every now and then (the strokes, the hives, white stripes in the early 2000s), and that's how a lot of music always has been/was, but to say you'll get consecutive albums of the quality of Zeppelin IV and Dark Side of the Moon selling that many copies, or just being listened to that much, is pretty insane.
Firstly, it means that their influences are being understood more and Porcupine Tree is one of the backbones of the ressurgeance of Progressive Rock :smug: [editline]10th May 2011[/editline]
you bet
Bollox.

They're given album of the year award for their worst album? :smith:
to be honest it's an album that's good, not seperate songs that are brilliant I love No cars go more than any song of Suburbs but Suburbs has 12 VEGY GOOD tracks
Am I seriously the only person who thinks The Suburbs is their best? Maybe I'm just late to the party.
an entire album of good songs is different to an album with a few very good songs on it so you're right.
Can we consider The King Of Limbs a classic? :v: Oh and probably some Tyler, The Creator album will be a classic later.
Can we consider The King Of Limbs a classic? :v: Oh and probably some Tyler, The Creator album will be a classic later.
Tyler's Goblin will be a classic. Late Registration will be a classic. Neon Bible will be a classic. Demon Days... There's a lot.. Regardless, there's a lack of people accepting legendary status' of newer albums. :smug:
I do maintain that we don't really have the perspective to say what will be and what won't
I do. :mmmsmug:
I do. :mmmsmug:
And I am Satan, the eternal ruler of the moon hell.

If I had the power to decide what is globally legendary, those two albums would be right near the top.

For me an album to be classed as legendary, it has to actually be good, with critical acclaim and awards. I think it also be recognised in the charts, not necessarily internationally and on the US billboard. And then it has to stand the test of time, something that doesn't fade after a year. "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not"- For me this is a brilliant album, won many awards, number 1 in the UK, and Quadruple Platinum. I can mention any of the songs to people and they still remember them.
Fade with time over a year? More like fade with time forever... Timeless music matters.
