I'm well versed in the mason's cipher, from what I can tell "CONG" when translated reads as "Anne Frank"
The rabbit hole just goes deeper.
An added bonus is that apparently the OP is in germany.
The plot thickens.
I've never seen a masonic sabre like that, it is ceremonial though, that's for sure.
Can you tell us how heavy the sword felt?
I've never seen a masonic sabre like that
I've seen one similar to it before, don't remember what it was for though
Also, have him hold the blade out straight and still without actually touching the blade and tap it lightly with a hammer. If it makes a clear, high-pitched ringing sound that actually lasts, it's not a cheap blade (probably either very thin, very pure steel or silver) and you can quote me on that.
Another good thing I can tell from the pictures is that there are very few signs of it being made in a factory.
Can you tell us how heavy the sword felt?
This, too. A good sabre should feel very light in the blade, with most of the weight concentrated in the handle.
That is worth either a Shitload of money, Or nothing.
What languages were around in the era of Sabres like this (Swordfighting and the like) In Germany?
Find that out and compare the lettering.

When seeing the thread title? Be honest. I was.
I've just heard back from some Masonic experts and they tell me they found a bill in one of FDR's accounts, a whole government black book project with a 2 million dollar bill for "Anne's ninja lessons"

No.
So a buddy of mine found a sabre in a closet. We have no idea where it could be from and his parents don't know it either, but it has a symbol on it and maybe one of you knows!

There is also an inscription on the blade but it's unreadable (might as well be "made in china")

Just saw this on Twcentre. I'll look it up in my books see if I find anything.

Well, german. Grammar was of course different and words have disappeared, but a modern german can understand it in written form. I told my friend to do what you suggested and i assume he's doing it now.

Do this. I've had to do this very thing before.
From what I can tell, the sabre could be one of the following.
A cavalry sabre.(This would be at least 100 years old)
A Ceremonial sabre
A Freemason sabre
A cheap reproduction.
Number 3 or 1 would be your best bet.

If it has complex inscriptions, it most likely isn't a cavalry sabre but it may have belonged to someone very very important.
It looks like an old, old Freemason sabre to me, and I've dealt with several sabres in the past, including one Freemason sabre.

My field work has led me across many a Freemason sabre and most notably an Atlantean one with Freemason markings I found in a German synagogue.

Things like this are both why I love Facepunch and why I would never come to Facepunch for help.
I love these types of threads.

He says the blade weighs more than the handle, and overall the sabre is heavyer than a filled milk carton (~1kg)
He hit it with a knife and said there was only a short ping, and he also found out that it's balanced about 5cm away from the handle. So i guess that means it's not worth anything.

Not necessarily, but it's less likely that it's real. The blade could just as easily be impure or iron, which would make it weigh more than the apparently wooden hilt.

Or the hilt could be rotting....
[editline]11:34AM[/editline]
Tap the hilt with a hammer or something. If it sounds hollow then it might be rotting... Or it could hold a message of some sort.

It doesn't look like it's rotting, and I doubt it's got a crazy pirate treasure map in it (but that would be cool).

Remember that the Freemasons where a secret society a few decades ago. Judging by my guesstimation of how old the sword is, it comes from the times where the freemasons where a secret society. It could have been used to transport stuff secretly.
That is if the hilt is hollow....
Sorry, it's not hollow. I am holding it in my hand right now. Btw, I am the guy with the sword.

Fair enough, but it's still somewhat unlikely. v:v:v
