I'm unemployed and am going to lose the roof over me in a month.

they get paid less
That is retarded, how is a teenage worker any different then an adult worker?
I think its to encourage employers to employ teens rather than adults
otherwise it would be hard for a teen with no experience to get a job i think
That is retarded, how is a teenage worker any different then an adult worker?
It's the same all through-out europe, Minimum wage scales up until you hit 21, where it stays the same from that point onwards.
That is retarded, how is a teenage worker any different then an adult worker?
they probably live with their parents
also OP, why don't you try working online?
Move back to the mountains and work on your mental state for a few months so you're not 'socially awkward'.
You probably weren't giving employers the right vibe.
Also, if you were doing a job with that much responsibility on minimum wage, you're probably being too much of a pushover.
There was this website where people would offer to do stuff for 5 bucks,Just take some pictures of you naked doing some sick stuff...
On a more serious note, what's your age?You could try to get an actual loan from a bank.
I'd be in the same shit situation if it wasn't for tax-payed education in Scandinavia. I'm just gonna chill out at university for 5 years and this shit'll have blown over and jobs will be standing in line to get us... in socialist Scandinavia.
Best advice i've got? Watch "The Wrestler" enjoy your life tenfold with a new view on an old, unsolved issue.
I wish that in times like this that there would be some rich member on FP who would just think: "Hey dude gimme your paypal, I have unlimited money anyways because of my rich parents I help you out bro"
I goddamn bet there is atleast one of them here but he will probably never see this thread or would never give out money (which is also ok in my opinion)
You can get a job as a public relations man. Passing out handbills on Austin Street.
That is retarded, how is a teenage worker any different then an adult worker?
It works in your favour.
Younger workers don't have the same living costs adults do, the lower pay means employers are more likely to take a young worker on.

It creates an uneven playing field which in a economy like this is bad. I see adult working teen jobs all the time due to there being no jobs to start with.
You cant just assume young workers do not have similar expenses. Workers should be hired on merit not age.
My third response. Ikea says they might call me. How reassuring.
I know a guy who lives in Vancouver and needs a soft-ware designer (he can pay 30 bucks a hour and McDonalds every-week.)
Problem is that I have not been experienced in...well, ever. The last thing I ever coded and ceated was a White_Rabbit application in Vusual basic but that was back in 2005 for a class project. There's no way a company will hire a programmer on that has no certifications.
Profitably? If you mean you won't get what you paid for them, what the fuck does it matter when you're to this point? Any money is better than no money.
Thank you. Now I can be poor, unemployed and have no shit to play with instead of poor, unemployed, but still able to keep myself occupied between possible phone calls and mental breakdowns because I'm realizing I'm fucked I'm fucked I'm fucked I'm fucked......
Apply to EVERYWHERE, what the fuck does it matter if the position is permanent?
If I wasn't applying everyehere, I wouldn't of posted this thread because I would of been immediately told "go here, here, here, or here." An exception to this are the palces like corner stores and 90% of the other Vancouver storefronts (bakeries, chinese grocery stores, flower shops, most resturants, etc). They'll pay you minimum wage because their cheap *censored* asses are too cheap to invest in something other than their house and car.
Job security is also very nice. I hear it can drive a person mad if every six months he's popping fuses because he's back in the same line at the service canada office, trying to apply for recent job postings.
Seriously owning a car is damn expensive, and you could get a reasonable amount of dosh for selling it.
I sell the car and I make $1600-$1800, but lose my only method of personal transit to and from my parents in case shit does hit the floor, or if I need one to get to a possible employer. In all interviews I have been at so far, the first question out fo their mouths was "do you have a car?"
Selling the car is a bad idea. I also do not know anyone personally who owns a car. Everyone takes the bus or train because they are all like me and scraping for a living....or like one person, receiving benefits from the government even though he's not a fucking canadian citizen (I don't care if he is my best friend. It annoys me to no end that you are getting $1300 a month because he is as autistic as I am).
Move back to the mountains and work on your mental state for a few months so you're not 'socially awkward'
No joke. It will kill me. I was so socially separated in that city I know nobody there now with a 30km radius. It's not "If I can recover by moving back", it's "will I be hanging off the rafters six months after moving back". I'm too unstable to be socially separated again from the few people I know. I have to stay in the city or I will die.
This does also of course open the alternate option of pure selfishness: "How about we end it here and not have to worry about moving back?"
also OP, why don't you try working online?
Work at home? I can see that ending horribly. I'm too easily distracted when I'm here.
Move to the UK and become one of the many people here who are far too lazy to even search for a job and get a steady Income for doing fuck all thanks to the government. :(
You are not the first person actually to say that. I know someone else who lives in London who never finished highschool but still got a certificate in networking two years ago and now works for BT fill time. I guess it proves a point: Completing highschool no longers means anything.

I've come to the conclusion that you're really bad at job searching.
Whats your paypal? 10$ for a fellow facepuncher.
Look on Craiglist for jobs. The economy sucks right now. Also, if all else fail, join the military and they will give you a steady paycheck at the expense of your freedom.

It's not something that will take you a lot of time. If you have the right skills, 2 or 3 days to set up a plan and you won't need to touch it again for a while. Theres arealdy a few written guides to teach people how to set up and stuff. I know a few guys who make(or made) a good 2-3k per month. But of course its kinda hard and you need a bit of experience, but it's always worth trying instead of just lurking around facepunch
I would advise moving back with your parents and finding a job there.
These are hard times, jobs are not plentiful. If you have a family who can support you then I would say it is advisable to stay with them.
If you get a job near your parents house you can work to pay your keep, build up some savings and pay back some of that money you owe them.
Your room mates knew what they were getting into going in on a rent with someone else. It is a volatile situation, they shouldn't blame you for being unable to pay. Even if they do it's irrelevant. No matter how good friends you are with them, you have to do what is best for you.
You aren't in any position to be supporting them when you are finding it hard to even support yourself.
It seems like it is really hard to find a job these days. I don't hope that it will be so for me when I have to go out and get a job in a few years. Sorry to hear that, OP, I hope that you will find a well paying job sooner or later.
I wish you good luck.
Take the Costco seasonal position. They are NOTORIOUS for hiring on good workers at the end of the seasonal period. Plus they have part time benefits and they pay way more then minimum wage.
They are about 500% better then what you have at walmart hands down.
[editline]2nd October 2011[/editline]
What kind of backwards rule is that? That is for Canada?
In america minimum wage is across the board for all workers.
This goes for Australia, too. We get a pay bump for each year until we turn 21.
Take the costco work then apply for other jobs while earning some money
consider enlisting or getting a government job
You have my heart and condolences, I wish you biggest of lucks, but this is not a blog...
I've come to the conclusion that you're really bad at job searching.
In the last two days I responded to ten more job listings. There's three types of jobs in the world: Ones that Make money but need experience, ones that make a little and you need little experience or they'll train you, and the ones where you are working for an asshole immigrant at a foreign supermarket for less than ideal pay. Finding the job in the middle is remarkably hard, especially since BC has a high youth unemployment rate because nobody else can afford a post-seconday either.

Not to sound hostile but either you have no friends or you didn't read the part where I mentioned that I would prefer to hold on to the people I already talk to.
I left that city in part because I knew nobody. I was fucking talking to myself and people who were not here. Not healthy on any level.

Do you got any friends that can possibly hook you up with contacts that will provide you a job?

tbh the entire government job/enlist route is an alternative to those 3, that's why I suggested it.
If you don't think you're up for service, that's your decision, but it seems like you could get through (from what I've seen of you), you probably won't get deployed either. An older friend of mine enlisted (in the USMC) after feeling "unfulfilled" and because he faced unemployment after graduating from university.
Another friend went straight to West Point after high school but that's different.
They usually provide much much more job training than other employers.
Where do you live? i know some places.
[editline]4th October 2011[/editline]
never mind. you live in canada. i live in georgia, usa. unless you wanna move down here, I can't help you :/
Get out of the anime lifestyle and sell all those computers. Don't spend so much on pizza and cola.
I really feel for you man, I been looking for a job for 2 years and finally get a callback go to interview and since my ID was expired I cant even get the job...Oh and btw. I lose my birth certificate and Social Security card somewhere in my house and cant get a new one. So just remember it could be worse.
I think you could try 'donating' plasma. I heard you can do it twice a week and get paid $25 each time. I'm pretty sure you have to be healthy enough to do it though (no high blood pressure, aids, etc.). They should be able to check for that on site at the hospital or care center.
I don't believe it.
So yesterday I get the call from Costco saying if I'm still looking for work so now I'm working there starting on the 18th. It's seasonal but the fuck do I care now. It's job security with a level of pay I have no idea of other than it will be at least thirty cents mroe than waht my last wage was.
Then today I get a letter from the government of canada. Even though I was technically fired from my last job they still honored my application and accepted my EI request and started the ball rolling by dumping $800 (four weeks worth of backpay) into my account and with assurance that if I didn't get a job I had 29 more $200 cheques coming my way with one per week.
Uh, I really didn't expect all this to happen so quickly. First I get the job, then I get the money to haul my ass out of asking my parents for cash. I'm actually a little scared but well I guess the threat is over now for the immediate future. Now jsut to tell the GC offce that even though they spent a month processing my paperwork, I don't need EI right now after all.
