I was catholic until the 3rd grade. Now I don't follow any religion.
Jah, Rastafari. :P
That would be like hell, eternity of just you and your thoughts.
Nah man i mean like constant dreams, how else would it end? there's no proof of heaven or hell, so where else would you go but in your own thoughts?
But your thoughts are contained with the brain, and once you die, your brain cells die, making your brain a useless hunk of muscle that will eventually decompose.
Otherwise, that makes absolutely no sense.

Once dead you are able to create your own reality, just like a lucid dream.

This.
Once we die, we simply cease to exist. I know it's hard to comprehend, but, at the end of the day, it's the only rational conclusion.
And that is where faith comes in Anubis.
personally i think faith is a very terrible crutch for the mind that only weakens it.
it's a miss-acceptance of the fact that is death.

Faith is a crutch for the weak.
fuck...

Quite the contrary, faith is, more or less, a defense mechanism. In the human brain, as I expect most of you may know, endocannabinoids regulate free thinking. Religious hypocrites and canna-crushers everywhere most likely hate the thing they need the most in order to be accepting and appreciative of compromise. When some get a dose of cannabis in their gust, they begin to question things such as faith, the Gov't/military, rules, parents, etc. When a christian society tries to present you with a seemingly obvious "believe and you shall last an eternity" situation, what is a sober, helpless, frightened, uneducated and developing child supposed to do? FUCKING BOW DOWN!!
If you know what dying is, you try to escape (and when heaven is seething through the pores of every christian on earth it's hard to avoid such simplicity.) Unless of course, as Stalk mentioned, you have a brush with some psychoactive drugs. Some mushrooms and LSD (on different occasions) eliminated my sense of purpose and, aside from developing a misanthrope out of me, set into motion an entirely different thought process. I no longer feel certain emotions and it is hard to have a normal conversation for me. I couldn't dream of communicating with an all knowing, all powerful, omnipresent, universal demagogue who gives a fuck about his pitiful creations enough to know the hair on their head. I don't care about anything and it would be dramatically obvious.
NOT CONTRARY, just meant that it is more intentional than a crutch because I assume one wouldn't admit to such a thing being a human endeavor.
If you grew up with a christian family you guys would understand.

I did and do live in a christian yet no longer church-going household. Forced to go previously on Sundays and Wednesdays for like seven of my eight years in AZ and much of my previous years were also spent in encouragement of the pious nature.

Same for me. I also attended a private Christian school from 5th grade until High School graduation.
I can only belive in sceince, I would love to have faith in god. death scares me would be nice to think I was moving on to bigger and better things, i just can't imo there is to much evidence to disprove the bible. i can only really talk about christian belife as thats the one i know the most about.

Where did this account come from?
I can understand all you guys saying you're atheists etc, and that you believe in science, but stop quoting it like it's undeniable fact. I'm not a creationist or even religious, I'm just pointing out some flaws I see in your argument. If you think Chrisitans are dumb for having faith, so are you.
Ahem,
The theory Of Evolution.
Also please tell me how something unconcious can create something concious. Please explain the evidence behind OOBEs and NDEs and (supposedly verifiably) documented past life memories.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.
I'm going to rate you a funny. Because you just implied that theory means "guess."
Oh yes, and the good thing about science, we never take things as undeniable fact until we prove so, and even then we're still subject to change.
Out of body experiences are still just chemicals interacting in the brain, i have no idea what NDEs are and the only people with past life memories are crazy people.
But i agree with you somewhat. Smug atheists who love to go on and on about how reiligious people are stupid are annoying. Maybe not as annoying as hardcore religious types, though.
edit: but you can't say having 100% blind faith is just as dumb as people making as-rational-as-possible decisions based on scientific findings
If you honestly want to look at science as a religion, then science is the religion of "I don't know for certain and will never know for certain, but I think I might have a really good idea based on experiments which provided me with certain results."

Im not saying that christians they are dumb, i would call them deluded.
An atom for example is unconcious but still it can create concious beings. Everything in this universe is made out of energy. matter is energy, for example your headset is pure energy in a compact form. Energy reglates everything, even time. time is nothing but an illusion for creatures with ego. But whilst uncoincious or dead and without ego and impressions from reality, time can be slowed down and during this slow time it should be possible to dream for thousand of years. Time is nothing but the interaction of energy with energy.
Without ego you are able to have OOBEs and lucid dreams. and near death experinces are aswell dreams. What the mind knows is what we see. So if you have ever heard of NDEs you are most likley to also have an experince like that when you are about to die.
i feel that religion is an abomination on this planet and an insult to the human race
we'd be much better off without it
that's why some atheists trash it and try to convert people, because our world would be much better off if everybody abolished their ridiculous beliefs and came to their senses
[editline]11:19AM[/editline]
that's not to say that if everybody converted to christianity or islam or any other religion we'd be any worse off
unity of our planet is all we need, but it seems much more reasonable to unite us all with something that actually makes sense
"Well, I guess I could post something useful on this thread, seems rather interesWHAT THE FUCK SERIOUSLY, AUGUST FUCKING 2009"
Wow, oooooooold thread
Thought I missed this thread. Guess it's just old. Read an interesting thing about death I found on stumble the other day.

Nosticism
I also believe that death is really only the death of the ego and perceptions, you are everything and the ego makes it seem like you're not. Look around you, at the rocks, the furniture, what differs them from you? Everything is energy and you are no different. It's beautiful really, sometimes I wonder why people make it so hard on themselves by complaining and having a shitty life. Life is an experience and death is equilibrium.
Agnostic, Determinist
I'm an athiest.
My take on religion is pretty simple, I'm not looking for a debate but I'll say it anyway:
The claim of a god or deity is unverifiable, and therefore meaningless to my life. So what's the point?
