Would it be possible to convert a skateboard into a snowskate?
of course it's possible. snowskates seem wider than skateboards though, so i dunno how well it would work.
Would it be possible to convert a skateboard into a snowskate?
It probably wouldn't have any grip on the snow at all, you might be able to cut off the bottom of a plastic sled, melt it a bit and attach it to the skateboard though.
The snowskate I ride is this Ambition: It's wider and longer than a normal skateboard, and has a special EVA-foam grip on top. Notice that there are also grooves on the base to keep the board straight on snow. It doesn't break as easily as a skateboard would, because there are more wooden plies. Tail and nose are taller and longer too, making it able to pop( since there are no trucks ). I guess that yes, you could make a snowskate out of a normal skateboard, but it would cost you more than buying an Ambition or Icon. By the way, I just got home from a local mountain resort, it was awesome to ride the hills down. Only 2 of them were open though, and the other one was too steep for a singledeck snowskate, so I was riding the more gently sloping hill. Got good speed though, and carving felt great on that hill. I tried to ride the steeper hills for a moment but because my feet weren't strapped and it is a singledeck that I'm riding, the board just slid away from my feet. Luckily I have my leash. For the curious: It's as easy to ride a lift upwards as it is with any other board or ski. The leash I'm using is two shoelaces tied together, and I have drilled a hole in my board's tail to attach it. Here's the guide for making a leash: http://www.ambitionsnowskates.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2955&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=leash#p27029 Oh and if you want to ride with skate shoes, I suggest you to buy X-treme grip. Otherwise you have to wear snowboots or some other shoes like that to get a good grip, skate shoes just don't work on the foam grip. These look quite good. On the rare occasion it snows around where I am, and the country shuts down we have a big long hill and we took the trucks off of our skateboards to go down it, but we don't get very far and the grip usually gets packed tight with snow.
its essentially street snowboarding.
Yeah without all the bindings and clumsy boots. With snowskating you only have your board, and maybe a leash - back to the roots of surfing and skateboarding.
OH damn, broke my ankle yesterday. Tried a pop shuvit on the ski slope off a box and didn't catch it so I landed on my feet, and for some reason( ankle didn't twist or anything ) it hurt a lot and now it's sore. Can't snowskate for a while.

I'm in texas. /patiently awaits for snow.
If it's not swollen/black or you can move it, it's not broken.
Yeah you're right, it's not actually broken, it's just sprained. Still hurts to walk though
Seriously, if I had any snow I'd be ripping all day. But unfortunately, it's just cold here.
I live in the warmer spot in canada, still no snow. Would like to give this a go.
How much does one snowskate cost? Like some 65€?
Check out Boardstock.fi for Ambition snowskates, a team model which doesn't have true concave or a cool logo on the base is 139€. Josh Seguin pro model costs 170€, and it has true concave. I really wouldn't recommend any other board, except Icon if they're available in Finland( afaik there's only one shop but I don't remember it ) If you want a bi-deck, you have to order one from USA or Canada, since there aren't any resellers for good bi-deck companies in Finland.
Oh boy! I'm sure it will snow in Victoria some day... Right? RIGHT?! [sp]Fuck no. It hardly even reached freezing temperatures this year. God damn it.[/sp]

I must say, I really enjoy riding the local hill down. Maybe even more than skating a sick spot, I'm definitely going to buy a Ralston next year and start riding those ski resorts more.
