Tracing is bad and only retards take pride in it.
IT teatches you no hand-eye coordination, it doesn't train muscle memory as well as drawing using a refereference and it is just bad and wrong most of the time.
that is the general consensus about it.

Finished another playthrough of Dragon Age 2. Romanced Fenris successfully, finally.
Felt like doodling him.
You're comparing somebody looking at math examples and then solving equations to somebody just copying the answers and saying that just because the former might not work, the latter is okay.
That's a silly parable, because both taking a reference and tracing is copying. Sure you know what kind of reference taking I mean by now. Ok tracing is bad, but I'd rather be saying that "doing your art from scrap is the best".
I am not talking about making a legitimate art piece, I'm talking about which method of practice is effective and which isn't
You partly meant "your art isn't legitimate" when you said tracing is bad.
it pmuch means that.
One thing is when you trace a photo of a model the other is when you do a photostudy off it.

Yes
I don't see what the big deal with the tracing above was; it's totally original artwork, it was just shared between 2 different artists.
Chill the fuck out.

Mine looks like crap compared to everyone else :suicide:
Is there a reason why people pick the Windows XP version of paint over the Windows Vista version? It comes with a few minor glitches, but you can circumvent most of them.
I have a version older than XP, I don't remember which it was but I prefer it more for various minor reasons such as I don't need to hold control down when I "+/-" the brushes and how some tools act slightly different making it faster to operate on your piece. Don't know much about Vista version, but win7 version is no longer some minor glitches, the whole existance of that garbage is a glitch.

sorry to make an argument here, I only said that I traced them because it was true and I didn't want you to start attacking me for having lied about drawing it.
I seem to have been only the subject of the conversation so far but I've been watching this topic too. Tracing is good for practice, it is not a skill-dependant technique of art which is why I usually dislike it (kind of like using gradients for shading) but it is nonetheless useful for making some elements of a drawing. I usually use tracing only for collaborations, the above (or two above if I got ninja'd) was an exception.
to put an end to the conversation, I now DRAW, not trace, something original and I will post it here later.

Some experimenting with style... turned out pretty well.
i just tried drawing reflections and BLEW MY OWN MIND

Your pixel art is a good indicator that you have skill and don't need to trace, and I get that there is a (small) context in which it is acceptable (though I'm still very allergic to it).
I guess we should leave it at that.
Hello! Before I go any further, is it acceptable to have a 6 frame walk cycle for a game?
If you feel comfotarable with six, then yeah
I've seen animations with less
ok, so I barely ever us ms paint, because I'm more of a photoshop guy, but I tried it and I'm fuckin' loving it
Hello! Before I go any further, is it acceptable to have a 6 frame walk cycle for a game?
Yeah, it's easier to do a 4 frame, 8 frame or 16 frame walk cycle however.
Personally, I think 10 frame walk cycle is the easiest. =)

The first animation is his jumping animation, which I'll work on later, and the second one is his transitional animation from idle to moving. I really don't think a 4 frame walk cycle would work out very well, and my 8 frame walk cycle kinda bombed. I think right now I just need to work on drawing the feet in a way that's easy to animate.
Oh also, here's my first rendition of him. I scrapped him because he's facing the wrong way and he looks awkward when he looks the other direction, and he's hard to animate.

Of course, looking back, I could give him another shot.

shading is nice and represents metal lovely but improve the lihgting by better determining the lightsource via using drop shadows and also metal tends to reflect light, pay attention to that.
Also there's no proportion and anatomy is absolutely missing. Some studies or using reference images would help. For proportion, just take a breath and compare stuff.
Would also venefit from using globally all the values you've used there. Especially around the neck area.
Some detail definition would do good, too.

Rotating weapon sprite for my game, supposed to be a grenade launcher.
You could say I'm doing a pixel art 2D side scroll ripoff of Quake series, theres a saw, machine guns, rockets, something like railgun is coming, similiar items and powerups with a little "influenced" gameplay balance and such. That's just how damn perfectly Quake series play, why would I do something that plays like shit deliberately? But honestly, the resemblance of this weapon's shape came out subliminally. Too bad the portait version of it with closer details isn't finished yet.

Edited this. I prefer the middle character not standing out so much and I think it looks better than the previous. Also the R in "Pulcher" doesn't look like an A anymore. I forgot what else I changed. Still only 16 colours.
Those who missed here's the previous version: http://i44.tinypic.com/qs9nrb.jpg
And if you missed even more the piece should read; "Core of Pulcher". The character in the middle is supposed to be sort of like an icon/character just like gamefuhrers like Quake have have the
