Why the hell would Equius kill Nepeta? They're moirails and consider each other friends. Equius has never known to have a murderous streak, he's not aristocracy so he has no reason to hate the lower-blooded trolls, and he was probably just talking to Nepeta. Hussie said that Vriska killed Tavros because she had enough of his annoying horseshit, Eridan killed Feferi and Kanaya because he no longer considered them friends and they tried to attack him for what he believed was the right thing to do, and Gamzee's just insane/evil at this point.
It would be completely out of character for Equius to kill any of the trolls, much less [I]Nepeta[/I].

Pretty much everyone I've talked to about HS hated the character, not so much in a "bad for the story" way so much as a "good lord horse porn" kinda way.
