I love how Homestuck has probably one of the grossest over reactions I have ever seen from the fanbase. The story isn't even done yet and people are still making wild assumptions on everything and planning to quit the story just because it's going in the direction the author wants it to go. Even worse is people are getting mad at how he responds to user feedback, even though we've KNOWN he responds like this all the time. I've never read a book that I liked and then stopped reading when a favorite character died or changed dramatically, nor with a game for that matter. Really the only reason al ot of you are getting so pissed at it is that it's not all laid out there for you at once, so you can't easily just keep going to see what happens next, you have to wait. It works much differently psychologically for this reason. If he's able to make everything work well in the course of 2 years, I'm pretty sure he's not gonna magically stop being able to do so. He WILL RETURN to the funny stuff of course, but in good time. It wouldn't be proper to end a whole arc in 2 panels, it has to run it's course. And because I can't think of a proper way to end this rant, I will use a quote I've loved that I think applies very well here. Points for you if you recognize it. "No matter how bad things might seem, they can't get any better, they can't get any worse, because that's the way things fuckin' are, and you better get used to it Nancy. Quit your bitching." Some of you need some faith for god sakes.
Eh, I'm not really all that mad. I'm disappointed with the direction he's taking the comic in, so I'm not going to read it anymore. Plain and simple. I thought people would appreciate it more if I didn't stick around and continually complain. Just because Hussie is taking a story in the direction he wants it to go doesn't mean I automatically have to agree with that direction. Hussie, despite being a good comedy writer, is not the end-all authority on every aspect of fiction, which he seems to be portraying himself as more and more often. His counterarguments are becoming less ironic and less humble, and he often makes a point of picking the most ridiculous-looking example of a particular argument to respond to in order to make it seem weaker. I've said it before, probably not so much here, that it wasn't the fact that the characters had died in the story, but rather the ways they died. To me, it didn't make a lot of sense, not because I didn't understand the story, but because I don't believe they were set up properly. I don't like it when story elements don't make sense. If you want a different example I stopped watching Heroes a few years ago for the same reason (though in that show the story problems were much more pronounced), even though I really liked the first season. Things were just "happening" without any real set-up or foreshadowing, characters started acting strangely, etc. It just wasn't fun to watch. As for the two years argument, I believe that in the last two months or so, Homestuck has undergone a tone change to something more dramatic and suspenseful. This, I believe, is not Hussie's wheelhouse, and I think it's showing pretty hard. The reason why the story has been so good is because Hussie is an excellent comedy writer, but just because he's good at that doesn't mean he's good at everything. Most people can agree that Jim Carrey is a great comedic actor. His recent, more serious roles haven't been so great. It wouldn't be such a big deal if Hussie would admit that he's experimenting or at least have a little humility when it comes to his work, but his arguments have basically degenerated to "I'm impeccably artistic and everyone who disagrees with the story direction just doesn't know what they're talking about." It started as ironic egotism that is gradually becoming real egotism. And, really, I don't want this to seem like it's a spur of the moment decision. I've been relatively disgruntled with Act 5 Part 2 for various reasons. (This was the response I wrote a few hours ago before some people went full fanboy and started personally attacking people over their opinions. Seriously, guys, be a little more mature towards the people who don't agree with you. Not everyone is going to like every decision Andrew makes and you're just going to have to deal with it sooner or later :colbert:)
If fucking Nepeta dies too then...fuck, that's just too many casualties
Nepeta please no.
I don't even care anymore. The character deaths don't mean anything anymore.
she dies he gets cut on the face can we just MOVE IT ALONG hussie fuck this is predictable funny as hell, but predictable
saying "no don't die" is like saying "no sun don't set" you're not strong enough to stop it but but i forogot the point i was making?
Feels kind of like this could end well. Since the crowd of non rampagers is thinning, I kind of feel like it's time to even the odds. Or maybe I just love nepeta too much to see her die :ohdear:
calling it now: nepeta dies everyone cries AH laughs
In tomorrow's forecast: heavy flooding due to bawwing Nepeta fans.
Getting in the hornpile to weep for days right now.
I want to see Nepeta not die just so Hussie can avoid being predictable.
she dies he gets cut on the face can we just MOVE IT ALONG hussie fuck this is predictable funny as hell, but predictable
I guess that is my problem with all the deaths. They are all just so predictable.
get a load of THIS hornses ass
I love Andrew's sense of humor. This was a great update. Though Nepeta might die, this is still hilarious.
Why is everyone funding that murderous juggalo-wannabe? And how did you guys even get 420 boondollars anyway?
