No it really doesn't.
Every time I look at what the trolls are now, I remember back to when I was reading archival, powering through the past pages to get caught up, and I hated Hivebent and wanted each troll to die a quick, but painful, death. I figured that the trolls creating the kids' universe was bullshit and hated the slimes that were annoying the "real" protagonists, the kids, who also liked to delve further into the mechanics of Sburb and its mythology. Exploring the workings of the alchemiter, the totem lathe, and the punch card designix were more interesting to me than reading about how a dozen aliens were being assholes to the kids.
But come later, the trolls became equally as important and I liked them just as much as the kids, and had to reread Hivebent to get all the chatlogs down. Now I'm hoping that Karkat doesn't die and Terezi gets some knowledge of what's going on before she winds up dead from the Bard's rage. I think I liked the trolls more when I realized that they're not as special as Karkat likes to make them believe they are; they're fucked over by Bec Noir like the kids, but won their game beforehand and had good quantities of knowledge already, but the kids are still able to countertroll them effectively. They're like the kids, only with an entirely different culture and lifestyle.
It just shows how proficient of a storyteller Hussie is to completely turn my opinion of some characters around and make me like ones that I loathed in the past.
