Doesn't know that (dreamselves = ded), doesn't want Gamzee to get the jump on him, scared shitless, trying to, etc.

If a player dies, their dreamself will also slowly die with the same wounds as their main body. If a prince or a princess (any other player) kisses the corpse and the dead player was previously awakened, then they're permanently awakened as their dreamself on Prospit or Derse. This is how Sollux came back to life after he was killed by the Vast Glub. If the player hadn't awakened yet, then they have to awaken extremely quickly before the dreamself dies, else the resurrection will fail. This is partially why Vriska psychically-choked Tavros when Hearts Boxcars was commanding him to kiss her near-dead body, because it would have prevented her from ascending.
