There's a problem with that though, we just went through all this buildup with the trolls and now he's focusing on the kids. So it's kinda disappointing.

See, what I'm hoping for is that the kids meet up with the trolls quickly, so we see how it all turned out from their point of view. Even though it's probably going to take, like, two months. It's more suspenseful, but I also really, really want to see how Karkat is dealing with all of this. I'm disappointed too, but I'm.... glad we're finally going to see what John's up to.

They don't exactly stay chronological in the first place, so we will probably have some conversations with a few dead trolls during the course of the story.

The trolls are at the time advantage, so I think she would technically be, but I don't think she'd speak to John anyway. What I really, really hope for is that John reads Karkat's memo (not sure if that's even possible) and alerts the others shit is going down.
