The origin of Mewtwo kinda reminds me of Astro Boy. Obsessive scientist wants to bring child back to life. Results are a failure to him. 'Cept Astro Boy went on to a life of good instead of immediately killing everyone.
Oh man I just uncoverd some lost memories
Sad.
They gave out more than dragonite and mew cards :) There was also a version of the Mewtwo card with a different image, but i couldnt find that :'( I have both versions though, so if i get a scanner, you might get lucky :)
:froggonk: I had all of them. I remember going in to the WB Store that was in the Mall and buying them. WB Stores no longer exist, this thread is making me sad...
Oh goddammit why did i just rewatch the scene where Ash dies. Goddamn nostalgia.
God damn I remember this movie. I used to watch it at least once a month.
I remember our school arranged a viewing for the whole year, was pretty fuckin' sweet
I remember our school arranged a viewing for the whole year, was pretty fuckin' sweet
meanwhile my school outlawed having pokemon cards.
This is how kids' movies should be made now a days. Everything's s watered down and dumbed down. This movie is still entertaining to me, and that shows alot as it's supposed to be a children's cartoon.
My opinion on the quality of pokemon films that I have seen: 1) Good but cheesey and sad. 2) Shit and mega cheesey. 3) Trippy and melancholy awesomeness. 4) Shiiiiiiiit.
Yeah, I enjoyed that movie and all, but Ash was the freaking savior of planet Earth, you'd think people would recognize him wherever he went and crap.
Well, they had to retcon some stuff sadly [editline]01:42AM[/editline]
What the show was trying to accomplish? I'm pretty sure all that the show and all these movies were trying to accomplish was getting kids to buy more Pokemon products.
Consequence =/= cause I'm currently watching Indigo League (the first season) all over again, and it is even better than what I remember. Some moments make my heart thrill, the soundtrack is FUCKING BRILLIANT, the only complaint I've got is the animation that's a bit lazy sometimes. [editline]01:44AM[/editline] Anyway, my point is that Pokémon was just a bit like us, forumers; awesome but can trick the ignorant kids into doing stupid stuff, such as buying all the products; and speaking of them, I really wish Pokémon hadn't been milked that way: it's given such a bad reputation to the whole thing that it's sad :frown: [editline]02:09AM[/editline] I mean, fuck [editline]02:15AM[/editline] And the music, the music, the music, for god's sake! I remember going to see this, more excited about my special promotional card right? AND THEY HAD NON LEFT. My childhood was destroyed. :crying:
Some of you may remember back in 1999. some of you were 9, some of you were 4 (me). No matter what age you were, this movie stuck with you for a hell of a long time, and you still remember seeing it in the theatre to this day. :siren:SPOILER ALERT!:siren: Best scene in the entire movie: View YouTUBE video http://youtube.com/watch?v=nVGBwyOzU4w They also gave out dragonite and mew promotional cards. If you still have yours that makes you a high class hustla
Actually, the mew hieroglyphic cards are from Pokemon the movie 2000. They gave away Dragonite, Pikachu, Mewtwo, and Electrabuzz promo cards for Pokemon the First Movie. [editline]02:15AM[/editline] Was pretty close.
This is the only movie I've ever cried at in a theater. When ash dies at the end, it still brings tears to my eyes.
If only he staid dead...
Holy shit... I don't think I've ever nostalgiad this hard in my entire life.

man even i was smart enough to not see any of them after the second
I still have the VHS version of this movie! I'm going to go watch it right now!
Oh god, nostalgia. I made my whole family go so I could get multiple mew cards. Remember these?
Fuck, I remember that card, I have it somewhere around. As a kid, I tried to decipher the code, but I failed... The solution has to be somewhere on the net! Off I am..

They (Pokemon, FF7, heck even Matrix with Smith to an extent) all got the basic idea from Frankenstein's monster most probably.
I remember that I dropped a competition form into a big box when I saw this and a few weeks later I got a phone call saying I won. I got a blue and yellow GameBoy Colour, Pokemon Blue, some Pokemon toys and a poster that showed all 150 Pokemon.
shivers down my spine at the music :)
I hold Pokemon 2000 superior because Lugia almost dies and he is such a badass.
Consequence =/= cause
It is so obviously only a giant marketing ploy. It's a cartoon based on a video game. The show makes constant reference to game mechanics. Something you often see is a video game based on a story/show or whatever, but Pokemon is very obviously a video game before it's a show or anything else. If the creators of Pokemon had the story of the show in mind before they had the game in mind, then you wouldn't have inexplicable stuff happen, like... -People only carry 6 or fewer pokemon with them -Pokemon are ordered to perform a specific named attack, which their owner shouts to them. For some reason the Pokemon have no idea what to do before they're given orders, and it's not like the trainer makes some kind of secret tactical decision that their opponent can't know about. -Battles are turn-based -People say things like "An electric-type is super-effective against a water type!" and "poliwhirl evolves into poliwrath with the use of a water stone!" -The existence of a "type" system outside the game. And this dumb shit would not have happened. How does that scene make ANY sense outside the context of the game?
It is so obviously only a giant marketing ploy.
Well, I still find it very entertaining to watch right now even though I'm 17 :saddowns: (I'm only talking about the first season... Indigo League was the only one which wasn't shit)
See, this movie was pretty cool for me up until the end where the murderous monster suddenly drops trying to kill everyone and turns into a big fucking softy who wants to hug everything. I was 9 when I saw this movie and I was so disaapointed. It's part of the reason I never got into the show, just the games. The show was too much "we've got to share our friendship! Being friends is AWESOME!" for my tastes.
