My friend once got a parking ticket (not quite the same thing, I know) and got it dismissed because they wrote the license plate number one digit off, despite all the other details (make, model, color, VIN) right.

Minor clerical errors are routinely ignored in court, unless there is good cause to argue that they are deliberate. If there's pictures of an event, and a number gets transcribed incorrectly, you are out of luck. If it's written down correctly in one location, and incorrectly in another, you are out of luck.
