I don't think you're supposed to pronounce it with a sh, but with a cis and het.
yeah but you have to suppress the urge to smash them both together. if it became widespread pretty much everybody would pronounce the "sh"
the word itself protests against the demands made of it, like a frankenstein monster, pleading "please kill me it hurts to live"
I got a new car
it's pretty cool

Is that a Bronco? I had a friend that had one of those, I really liked it.

It's literally no harder than "mishap"
It's literally no harder than "mishap"
it's got a fuckload of syllables that cannot be said correctly without painfully drawing out the word in the same way you would slowly pull out somebodies fingernails. if you try to pronounce it correctly it still sounds wrong to hear it and wrong to say it. otherwise you just mash them together
even then, it's still a very ugly word that makes linguists cry, since it consists of a collection of morphemes put together in such a way that it is incomprehensible save to the person who coined it like three months ago
leviathan was right it's an extremely gross word
Well I just cried for the first time in over 7 years (barring anxiety attacks) without being able to immediately stop myself.
Eyyyyyyy we can cry together.
Eyyyyyyy we can cry together.
We can all have a crying party
people that aren't furries are hard to understand and they tend to get weirded out by and angry at the most mundane things
"oh no a dragon butt that's gross!!"
you know what else is gross
cisheteronormitivity
Jesus christ did you really just use that word unironically
Jesus christ did you really just use that word unironically
I thought they were joking around at first, but...
Who wants to cuddle?
that is without a doubt the grossest linguistic trainwreck of a word
it feels wrong to say it out as your tongue tries to stop you pronouncing the "sh", it's a ghastly mixture of greek and latin, and it's entirely redundant. the three morphemes of "cis", "hetero", and "norm" can be combined into the single morpheme "norm"
abandon and avoid this word at all costs, it's a confusing mess of letters which can be safely discarded
what about "cisgender- and/or heterosexual-based normativity"
what the fuck is normativity
why the labels????

It's basically a term for someone who just automatically assumes that everyone is straight and cisgender and struggles with the concept of anything otherwise, aka the person who goes 'oh, you're trans? but you *did thing I didn't think trans people did*'.
what about "cisgender- and/or heterosexual-based normativity"
separately they could work yeah (cisnormativity and heteronormativity), but combining the two is a gross crime of nature
the even weirder "cishet" is so ugly i don't even bother to try pronouncing it correctly. i pronounce the "sh" and make the "t" silent, which rolls off the tongue much better and cunningly obscures the origin of its bastard parents. the only word which could be worse is when idiots use "trans*" with an asterisk, which implies it has a footnote somewhere which discredits it like you see in advertisements
You read words oddly.
It's beginning to look a lot like tumblr in here.

I dunno. Seems tame compared to tumblr.

Trans*
*May cause side effects including but not limited to struggling to buy shoes, makeup difficulties, mood swings, shitposting on the Internet, getting shitposted at on the Internet, and suicidal depression. Always read the label.

I'll believe you when folks start saying that cishet people actually have anything to be ashamed of.
Lol I wish I was cishet.
Lol I wish I was cishet.
You want to kiss boys? Ew.
I keep misreading cishet as cisnet and think its some kind of weird, yet neat, network.
So many labels and label abbreviations and shortenings.
I'll believe you when folks start saying that cishet people actually have anything to be ashamed of.
What the fuck does that even mean?

if you look at it from a linguistics point of view, coming from a programming background it's a lot easier to recognize the asterisk as a wildcard that's meant to stand for anything and everything
You want to kiss boys? Ew.
I want to kiss everybody
SO MUCH HERPES

how about "that one societal thing where everyone assumes people are cis and straight unless proven otherwise" or as I like to call it, TOSTWEAPACASUPO
how about "that one societal thing where everyone assumes people are cis and straight unless proven otherwise" or as I like to call it, TOSTWEAPACASUPO
I really don't get why the trans community is so pissy about people expecting that dudes have dicks, girls have vaginas, be straight, etc etc. It's hardwired.
because it's super easy to forget (or even learn) that people like us can even exist when everyone assumes that sort of thing
like how people also assume what a person's hobbies and favorite colour and all that weird gendering stuff based on what genitals people are born with which is really creepy
and also I had no idea trans people existed until I was already in puberty and MAN i if i knew beforehand I probably would've been able to get hormone blockers
basically society sucks and it could stand to be A Lot Better™
basically society sucks and it could stand to be A Lot Better™
I guess not being a dick to people who don't (but could) know better is a nice place to start. When you run around shaking your fist at the average "cishet" it sends a really bad message about the trans community. I'm not saying I've seen this from you personally, but there's a vocal part of the trans community that demonizes cis people and people who aren't automatically aware of just how diverse a box gender, sexuality etc is.
"I will devour every cishet and everyone will thus have a merry christmas" and statements as such aren't okay just because you might have been slighted by some of those people. I'd have hoped that people within the trans community of all people would understand how hurtful it is to be judged for something you can't help (and you cannot seek information on something you aren't aware of. Remember that a lot of people will go an entire lifetime without encountering a single trans person.)
Yeah pretty much that.
You can't fault people who being hardwired and socially taught shit that is beyond their control. All you can do is spread the word/knowledge peacefully without being an aggressive tool because you're mad. Most people won't even know why the trans community is mad and just think that vocal minority is just being a bunch of assholes. You can't just expect them to automatically know these things.
