Pretty much the only reason I won't come out at this point. I think I got the clear from my parents that they'd accept me for whatever, but at this point might as well keep it a secret if I can't start my transition, considering the job I work at is in a highly conservative fuckzone. The money keeps coming in though and I'm saving hard.

Alright. I'm just here to get some answers. There's a series of games I love, the world of darkness, which is set in a world that's basically our own but shittier. Vampires control politics, the corperations are literally evil and are poisoning the earth and puting shit into their products to make people shittier (as part of a 'let's end the world' thing) people are more hateful, more biggoted, ladadada. I think it makes a massive point out of finding something that's bad in society and then sensationalizing it to make a point. but, the publisher site's forums for this series of games, and a few freelance writers for the last edition, is incredibly pro LGBT... In a way that's kinda toxic. Essentially, the world gets to be dark and gritty, except when gender is involved, then they're incredibly progressive. I think this is a bad move, like they're up and away making things shitty, then they mix in progressive gender politics with the shit. Also, the Mods look for excuses to ban people who don't agree with this. but we'll ignore that detail. Now a common argument they pose is 'I'm playing a game, I don't want to be made uncomfortable by discrimination'. which is fair enough, but like, the point of the game half the time is to fight the power. Join or fight with the status quo. You're in a dark and shitty world, make it better for yourself. You can fight for gender rights, but as the real world currently has discrimination, you're not supposed to have won the cause before you start playing. But, it's only gender politics that's really a mess here. Racism or class inequality is fine to keep shitty. Now, there's a golden rule which is "change stuff at your table to better suit what you want" but, it seems, a lot of these folks want to put their agenda; The terrifying transvestite agenda (i jest) as part of the core game for everyone. Now, i was just wandering how transgender people feel about that? If you were playing such a rollplay game, would you want to have the world more accepting to transgender by default? Or would you go with the thematic intent of the game (it's all shit, make it better). My friend, a gay guy, wishing he were a girl, with a lot of other issues, plays a lot. He just plays a female character 90% of the time and avoids the whole debacle.
Honestly seems like it almost puts across the wrong message. The proposed world is a horrible place and is friendly towards LGBT? Wouldn't it be better to put it the wrong way around instead of lumping LGBT in with all the bad things?
tinter:that's my point. But apparently I'm a regressive conservative for pointing that out Gtan: he has issues besides. He wants to be a straight girl, as you say, but he's got conservative values. His mother doesn't even know that he's gay, and he fears how she may react if she knew. His face is kinda feminine and he's attached to his long hair, but amidst depression, obesity, a whole load of other issues, there's reason why he hasn't tried to switch. His sole feature to win people over is that he's a nice guy and he might share some of your interest. His hygiene is poor and he's not intellegent, stable, responsible, wealthy or anything else. I think he might be a decent looker if he lost weight and sorted the hygenie out, but i think that's too much to ask of him. I don't think he has the confidence to declare the switch, and I don't think me encouraging him will be enough. He's unfortunate. Lightening the mood: we hang out often enough that we sometimes tease my lady about how me and him are really a couple and she's a third wheel.

Wouldn't it be better to put it the wrong way around instead of lumping LGBT in with all the bad things?
it sounds more to me like LGBT characters are just treated as equally as other characters, but this is a problem because the fantasy world is more accepting than the real one? in a role playing game i dont think your character creation should be constrained to stuff in the real world, ive played a bear character in DnD because it was fun and i could make it work, i didnt have to worry about the bear discrimination i might face in the real world if it was like that, the only way to play would be to make a buff male every time to have the optimal survival build i guess maybe in this shit world people dont have time to care if youre lgbt or not because theyre trying to survive [editline]3rd November 2016[/editline] basically: if the world is oppressive to everyone equally why should it matter what you are if you'll be fucked equally
Well, It's not like DnD, where you're a mixed race bunch traveling made up and colourful worlds on an epic fantasy to kill epic monsters and get epic loot (though Werewolf and Changeling sometimes get into that territory) It does do some things interestingly. Werewolves are all testosterone-muscle- monsters of people regardless of gender, before they turn into their wolf-war forms. The difference between male and female vampires is appearance (and I guess weight, which isn't represented in mechanics) Their musculature stays the same as it was when they were turned, regardless of how strong they've got after. A child could out-lift someone who looked like Sir Gregor. Basically, many supernatural conditions equalise the gap between men and women. Thematically though, the world has all the problems the real one has. It's not Warhammer 40k levels of fucked, it's just ours but somewhat worse. So biggotry still exists. Sexism is less prevailant in some supernatural societies, due to reasons listed. Still, werewolves are gonna be sad if you don't spread your glorious werewolf genes on account of being gay (dying race and all that). The thing is, supes still have to have interaction with normal human society, and human society is bigoted, and people have vested interests in keeping it that way. A vampire might use seduction to feed, and being trans could limit who's interested. A character could try to socialy navagate their way through humans, and might find biggotry an obstacle, Maybe they were stereotyped badly, ridiculed, perhaps just denied opportunities of advancement. It might even a reason why someone might attack them. In times of yore, the storyteller was completely OK to do such a thing, it made interesting and compelling stories. It fleshed characters out. There was a real fun plot point for werewolf about an (evil) medical group who's mission was to cure the gays of their unatural urges. They naturally preyed on people who were vulnerable enough to volunteer. Their treatment worked, but the patients didn't suddenly become hetrosexual, They lost all interest, but developed a hatred of people 'different' as they were possessed by evil. They lost their facial features, all signs of gender, their genitals atrophied away, and they gained a set of powers related to homogeny. They actually became excellent werewolf hunters, because they could scent out that the werewolves were 'different'. And they hate all that's different. Now, I liked that kind of commentary on 80's attitudes to "curing the gays". It's something to fight against. It's maybe a bit more heavy handed than the usual stuff, but I feel the symbolism powerful enough for example here I feel, if we whitewashed sexism, transgenderphobia and whatnot from such a game series which explicitly tries to highlight such issues. , it cheapens it and denies story opportunities. Edit: oh fuck i wrote a lot. Anyhow. With this in mind, would you fine friends enjoy such settings/stories, or avoid it/try to make it more trans-friendly from the getgo?
Well I just want to say, it's a bit silly to complain about the creators of a setting changing their setting. It's their setting, and ultimately they get to decide what makes sense for it. Whether you like it or not, they're the ones who made it, they're the ones who drive it, and you're just along for the ride. If you don't like it, you're always free to use a different setting. Or hell, modify it for your own tastes because you can easily do that in RPGs. Personally, I don't particularly care if a setting is sexist or anything. It can actually benefit some settings if there's "fantastical racism" (such as werewolves vs vampires vs humans, like you mentioned) and they want to focus on those and not have sexism or plain old racism on top of that. For example, Star Trek does that very well, being one of the first shows to have a scripted interracial kiss on TV. It's a great setting for that, and at this point having any other sort of bigotry within the series just wouldn't make sense at all. It's not exactly the best series for LGBT characters, given the lack of gay relationships, but the creators were always open to it and Gene Roddenberry promised to have gay characters in TNG, but died before he could make that happen. LGBT characters still showed up occasionally, though. Wizards of the Coast has gotten some flak for adding in LGBT characters to Magic: the Gathering. People are accusing them of "shoehorning them in". But they added a gay couple to an Ancient Greek setting, where it makes perfect sense! They added a trans woman (Alesha) to a culture where you choose your own name, and she wanted her grandmother's name. That makes perfect sense in context, and very elegantly adds another dimension to an otherwise rather boring and flat war-focused tribe. Hell they've also had an agender character (Ashiok) for a while but people seemed to mostly miss that one. Anyway, my point is that it's ultimately up to the creators and writers of the setting whether it "makes sense" to have LGBT characters be accepted or not. And really most of the time, they're not really changing it, just adding an extra thing that says "oh by the way, LGBT people exist and they're not discriminated against". That's not changing the setting so much as adding an additional aspect to it. If the setting doesn't have racism or sexism, why would it have other bigotry? If the setting is focusing on the conflicts between the species, it would just distract from that to have other forms of discrimination.

I believe November is Trans Awareness Month. Happy trans awareness month
I'd like to confess that I honestly didn't really understand the whole 'transgender' thing at first. It wasn't that I was against it or did not know what it was; I just didn't really understand how to feel about it. Like "oh that's... weird?" This was especially true when my younger sibling came out as agender to me and my parents. I was even more confused because it wasn't even MtF or FtM like most non-trans people think when they hear the term 'trans'. Naturally I was skeptical at first "What does that even mean?" "Are you sure?" I didn't really buy it, but they knew for sure that's what they felt comfortable with. Over time, I just didn't think about and it just became normal to me. That when I finally realized that this didn't make them any different; they were still the same meme loving, trash king I've known all along. They didn't need any crazy special treatment or to be looked at any differently. All anyone wants is to be comfortable in they're own skin and have others to treat them as they would anyone else. I hope that didn't come across superficial or phony, I feel that I've got a much better perspective on things now than I did back then and to get that off my chest.
My labs are being processed right now and I'm supposed to get a prescription for spiro once they're done, but this election has me so scared of what my country is capable of that I seriously feel that if I go on hormones that I'm going to be murdered. I don't know if I can handle treatment anymore.
Best of luck to everyone. Stay safe, get ccw permits, stay inside. Next 4 years are going to be tough
After seeing my mom cheer for Trump because he's 'against PC' along with a few of my friends, I'm honestly considering just ending it. I already have 0 reasonable chances of passing, having to deal with that and the risk of violence + legislation hell is the most depressing series of thoughts I've ever had, and that includes what I felt after getting disowned by my dad's side of the family. I dont know what to do.

I'd hate for us, or anyone, to lose you anyone in this thread for any reason. I believe you, and everyone else here to be stronger than the hate that might come against the LGBT community in the next 4 years. You've already proven that just to get this far, please hang in there. That goes for everyone in this thread. Stay strong. Every last one of you. I don't want to come back here in 4 years to learn we've lost a single person here to suicide. Ok?
Here's to hoping Trump's victory won't fuck up trans communities in and outside of US (esp worried for a friend from the UK that wants to transition next year), but I'm highly worried that there will be a ridiculosly high amount of consequences for both. I hope that you will all survive the oncoming onslaught.
I know the outcome of this election looks bleak. It's not a good result, but even then it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Things might get tougher, but I have no doubt that everyone will persevere. Love and support to everyone.
I actually thought my life was going pretty good and that i was getting better with the dysphoria and this happens wow. Like i was gonna get my name and gender legally changed next week and now I'm getting anxious that that's gonna go wrong too :( All the work the obama administration was doing to get legal rights for trans people has gone down the drain. their lawyers aren't going to have enough time/power to fight a conservative supreme court. I'm spending the rest of the night with my loved ones to try and relieve this stress. This is a sad day for the LGBT community and I hope that by some miracle trump doesn't become president, but if not, good luck y'all.

I wish everyone in this thread a safe couple of years. I've never posted let alone even viewed this thread but I felt like maybe I could help keep the feeling of optimism going. Things may be tough, but I plead with you to stay hopeful and positive as we move forward as a country.

I did want to come out to my mother at some point. But her being a diehard Trump supporter and Trump winning means it might just be easier to be in the closest for 4 more years. Or I need to come out within the next two months and get the ball rolling before he gets into office. But I know that isn't going to happen. :v: But really I wish everyone here the best of luck the next few years. We are all going to need it. ❤️
I'm not trans but as someone who's best friend in my whole life is trans, I feel very frightened and afraid right now. I hope to god you'll all be alright.
Im outa town to avoid riots.
This is gonna get real ugly for you guys the coming 4 years. Nothing I can do to help other than lending a listening ear. Good luck guys.
