Got rid of a few I thought were pointless.
uh, shit post is not pointless
The ps3 one seems kinda lost. Wii and Xbox 360 are right next to each other, but the ps3 icon is scared and alone, in an uncaring world.

I can see the text perfectly fine but the symbols next to them aren't very visible, such as the video, dumb and addon icons.
The one I have trouble with is the NSFW one. Just like yellow-against-white, red-against-black is really low visibility.
For NSFW you better use a slightly brighter background.
It makes it easier to read, but the readability of the rest of the
text is perfectly fine.
these are gorgeous & they should be put into place immediately
Y'know, I'd love to actually see the tags directory so I can make sure I have every single tag. Same for SA, actually. Make sure I've covered all my bases.
The Garry icon is severely lacking in animation!
When just Inkscape and Microsoft GIF Animator you own, make decent animated icons you will not.
They're pretty, but I don't think they should all have the same style. Most of them sort of blend in together for me.
They're pretty, but I don't think they should all have the same style. Most of them sort of blend in together for me.
Well, giving them all the same style was kinda the point. The idea was to give them a uniform style while still maintaining each one's flavor so that the forum looks a bit more clean and professional. I mean, the old set looked so... Heh, well my dad compared them to an old FrontPage 95 site. Their styles are all over the place and amateurish. Synthiac started making a uniform set already (some of which actually are implemented in the current system):
And I figured I'd finish the job and redo the whole set from scratch.
[editline]Time to stop screwing around and respond to feedback...[/editline]
I'd prefer them with less pronounced borders, the way the borders stick out so much is a bit much.
The borders around the images themselves or the text outline?
NSFW colour should be white not red, black on red doesn't look good
Well, I purposely did red in order to make it distinct from the others and make it clear that the tag should be heeded, but maybe that red is a bit dark.
Maybe should also have a general "coding" tag for other languages that don't have its own tag.
Also, is a.script too vague? It could be ActionScript or AppleScript.
Y'know, I originally did have a misc coding tag, but I figured that was a bit of a cop-out. Maybe I should re-implement one, though. Plus a.script is supposed to be ActionScript.
also why that icon for nintendo mario or go home.
As said in the original thread, the Smash emblem is a deliberate decision as it's really the only symbol that can symbolize the whole company instead of just any one franchise, system, or era besides a circled N, which doesn't look as good.
Of course. Maybe I should do a v2 set with some of this feedback.
Perhaps I did sacrifice some readability for consistency. Hopefully there's a way to have both. Synthiac's attempt tells me there might be.
Hinted fonts, huh? I had used Futura T (my favorite font, tends to work well for a variety of things) by drawing it big and then shrinking the letters so that the x-height was exactly five pixels, and then did up all the ascenders and descenders to not exceed two pixels each. I had to do all the pixel-aligning myself by going in and snapping whatever nodes I could to a pixel grid. Maybe I should try another font or do up a pixel font by hand...
What font did you use for your take, by the way?
Although I think your icons look great, I feel that the old icons all have individual unique qualities, which makes each thread unique. I just prefer the old ones, but I still think your icons look really nice.
... Curses, Inkscape can't do font hinting. And the most advanced raster editing program I have is Microsoft Image Composer, which really doesn't play nice with modern stuff.
*sigh* Gonna have to just do everything by hand still.
If you ask me this is wrong and so are the old icons.
The problem is that if you make the post icons say stuff like "Games" then the GGD is going to be full of threads with the "games" icon, and I really don't think that Post Icons are used the way they used to be used.
Now they're usually used by people to differentiate between threads, like how I can easily find the Fallout megathread in the GGD as it is the only thread on the front page with the "Politics" post icon.
Are you suggesting a complete category do-over?
Do we really need new tags?
I seriously don't get it.
Not really, there's just this guy who made new icons for some reason.
I kinda think we do. we dont have one for some topics
We should have icons for all topics IMO.
All of them.
Then we would have to need one for every game in existence in order to make it for GGD.
What if there were custom thread icons, I mean some megathreads have their own banners, I bet the people who frequent those threads could make their own icons for them.
Customs aren't a bad idea, but I'd recommend keeping it in GGD.
Not really, there's just this guy who made new icons for some reason.
If you click through the link the first post, you'll see this sprung from my topic about the gaming icons becoming outdated now that we're moving into Gen8.
I wouldn't say they look outdated.
Garry hurry up and incorporate these, these would flow nicely with the visual style of Facepunch.
