latest episode [sp]of all the deaths in game of thrones, this one was by far the most unsettling. i'm literary shaking right now![/sp] [sp] it's hard to focus on anything else but that right now, but i have to say i'm happy to see Sansa finally growing some balls[/sp]
Is it just me or does it feel like barely anything has happened this season? Especially considering the previous ones.
Is it just me or does it feel like barely anything has happened this season? Especially considering the previous ones.
It's kind of hard to make anything significant if you have to follow[sp]killing off the most hated little shit this series has to offer[/sp]in your second episode.
Is it just me or does it feel like barely anything has happened this season? Especially considering the previous ones.
It's because the events happening right now, or really everything since the purple wedding, all occur in really quick succession in the books, it's such a short time period- but the show can only really show one big event per show It's also true that every goddamn episode recently has fallen into the format non-book padding, non-book padding, book-padding, non-book padding... BIG BOOK EVENT. Everyone's said they loved this episode.. but honestly both me and my non-book-reader boyfriend were getting annoyed at (e8 scenes) [sp]the Grey Worm ~ Missandei plot and Tyrion's extensive talk about bugs..[/sp], or last episode with (e7 scenes) [sp] Melisandre in the bath for like 5 minutes without plot advancing [/sp] I think the show writers are terrified of catching up with the books, so they're really chucking in the fluff right now. Certainly makes it feel slower/less eventful to me.
To me it feels like the pacing has slowed way the fuck down from the previous three seasons, as if they blew their budget or something and had to reign everything in. It's more like a crappy small time drama at this point. I mean I'm still enjoying it but yeah
Can someone explain how the books tell the story? Since season 4 goes through the books quickly, what happens in the books? Do we get like a chronically ordered Daenerys story, then a Jon Snow for like 300 pages or what?
Yeah, but to the best of my recollection they don't say how he earned the title, so it's more of a cool moniker than anything else. It seems only book readers would be privy to that knowledge. Unless, of course, I'm to assume he's called the Red Viper because he uses poisoned spears, obviously. Also, I don't know how many people visit the GoT subreddit or any affiliated subreddits but right now they're having the same problem they had a few weeks ago where someone hacked a moderator or something and changed the design to be nothing but a big image that spoils the upcoming episodes. This is what I'm talking about [SPOILERS!!!!] I don't even know if ALL of those spoilers are real or not, but I do know that a couple are legit. Some people are cunts and love ruining things for people. Just a heads up for everyone who goes there so it doesn't happen to you. It's too late for me. :suicide:
oops i accidentally clicked that without knowing it was about future spoilers
SHOW [sp]I think the dungeon bug scene has to be the best scene in the series imo. I always like it when good shows give that kind of discussion. A good look into a specific character, and when they (what I thought) flirt with the existential stuff.[/sp]
Show Spoilers [sp]I don't know why it got so much hate. I liked how chilly and connecting it was, I felt like I was there. Just hanging out with Jaime and Tyrion. In a prison cell.[/sp]

A french episode 9 promo (with at least one pretty surprising spoiler, even for book readers): Edit: Added YouTube link.

Not sure if I should post it but it's on her instagram from a month ago. The picture (SPOILER, BOOK AND TO BE IN SHOW)[sp] It's a set of stones in the shape of a heart, confirming Lady Stoneheart (at least appearing in this season) [/sp]

This is not, in the books, a plot heavy story. It's all character, world building, back story...with the occasional bit of plot to advance. In a tv show that approach does not work. A dramatic show requires drama and that comes from plot. Characters and world building are still important but they serve plot in a tv show. So the tv writers have to make up stuff, there isn't enough plot in the books. That's one reason they've milked book 3 for all they can get out if it. So I don't think the show producer's or writers were ever scared of passing the books, they counted on it if they assumed the show would be in production for years. That's also why I think the show is rolling along just fine, they anticipated this and planned for it.

I like how that one guy with the glasses and big bushy beard just has a huge, exaggerated frown on him the whole time. It makes him look like a cartoon character.

Could you guys tag spoilers even when replying to other spoilers? Eventually the quote chain becomes very ambiguous in what kind of spoilers it contains.
Could you guys tag spoilers even when replying to other spoilers? Eventually the quote chain becomes very ambiguous in what kind of spoilers it contains.
In my last post the spoilers were already marked in the part I quoted, actually I quoted the entire thing just to make sure. I don't want to get banned again, so I guess I can try to spoiler mark the spoiler marks. We need to go deeper.
show [sp]It's funny that I'm totally not bothered by gore or anything and the only thing that has ever freaked me out in tv/movies is the part in 28 Days Later when the main character is putting out the army guy's eyes with his thumbs. So game of thrones now collects that award and then some. I am scarred for life haha.[/sp]
Latest episode show spoilers. Welp now I like Arya 500% more.
[sp]WHO WOULD PASS THE BLOODY GATE?[/sp] [sp]THE BLOODY HOUND[/sp] Hound always delivers
I don't know about you guys, but everybody else I know who watched the latest episode agrees with me on that: (SHOW) [sp]Me along with all friends I know who watched the episode all agree that there is something haunting about it. And I know for one that I am not much of a squeamish person, but Oberyn's death was so fucking brutal and I literally could not stop thinking about it after I watched the episode for the first time. I don't know if anybody here agrees with me, but there's something about it that was just 'haunting'.[/sp] Anyway, I'm definitely going to need to borrow my brother's books now. Way too hooked on the series. Plus I've already had a bunch of stuff spoiled for me so why not? :v:
I agree that the show needs to, well, show the character building and back story because so much of that is achieved in the book by off-hand description or mentionings that just don't have a place in TV scenes. Also didn't want to seem like I hate every scene that was added for the show either, since I've loved some of the things added to help us see the depths of characters - like the change from Jeyne Westerling (a relative unknown) to the much more characterised Talisa. However that's why my examples were of scenes I felt were unnecessary and were filler. (e6, e7 and e8 scenes) [sp] Missandei's romance felt so convoluted, and more like an excuse to see her naked, as was the entire point to Melisandre's scene. Tyrion's rant I can appreciate much more as grounding but christ it went of for five minutes longer than needed.. It's things like Yara trying to get Theon back that wind up feeling so ridiculous and pointless that I really feel there were better ways to distract the viewers before something actually relevant to the plot occured. [/sp] .. I sound like I bitterly hate the show, sorry, honestly enjoying it :< BOOK DISCUSSION [sp] I think it's going to be interesting to see how the viewers feel in season 5-6 when so many main characters have died and events have really started to slow down. The whole time I was reading it I was really just thinking wow.. there's practically nobody left besides the younger generations and the incapable - which was wonderful as an idea of the ruination caused by the various power struggles, but I was also thinking christ - at this point it'll be left to Rickon to run King's Landing. Overall I wonder if the ratings will continue as highly during this slow, depressing period. Going to be interesting. [/sp]

You obviously don't see the actually head burst because that'd be too hard to do properly, but the fact you can see oberyn yell his lungs out trying to shake his head with the mountain holding him in place rather than have it all be off camera with no sound makes it really hard. That, and oberyn's screams are actually louder than anything else in the scene.[/sp] If you compare it to another similar death in another movie : Star Trek Into Darkness spoilers (and obviously GoT spoilers since it shows a similar death) you can see what I mean.
