Great episode, but IMO that part where [sp]those dudes tried to defend the inner gate against the giant was pretty stupid, couldn't they just not give a shit about the initial order and shoot it with arrows/bolts first and then just scatter around and poke it til it died? I mean it was really cramped for the giant to perform massive attacks. they stupidly died[/sp] (i played dark souls so i know how to fight bosses right??? :v:)

[sp]Or even better, wait until the giant was in full charge and then poke some long spears through the gate and just wait for it. Way too few spears on the show.[/sp]
[sp]I think it would be very hard to keep oil boiled on a gigantic wall made of ice.[/sp]
Uh, fire? It's not as if the wall is going to melt at the first lighting of a candle near it.
[sp]The wall has stood for thousands of years. It often melts then refreezes. Taking a bit of oil down one sliver of the miles long ice sheet isn't going to hurt it. If you think it does, you seriously underestimate the strength of it.[/sp]
Didn't they SHOW SPOILERS [sp]drop not ignited oil barrels first, and then ignite the oil down there with a second set of barrels? I thought that all barrels up there were filled with oil. The fact that they didn't ignite the oil on the ground straight away confused me at first, but then I realised they did that on purpose so they could ignite it when someone stepped on it.[/sp] Sorry for the convoluted sentence there at the end.

Especially considering the Wars of the Roses inspiration, there is a horrifying lack of pikes and halberds

[sp] I thought they either dropped the barrels down there to wait for the mammoths to come up, or they dropped empty barrels. At that height the barrels would shatter sending wood fragments and splinters in all directions, causing a lot of painful wounding.[/sp]
Why not, you know pour regular water down on them, wont last long in that cold.

i think burning them to death is a lot more effective than waiting for them to freeze

Beside the wall, in middle of the night, you wouldn't be effective in a couple of minutes and probably freeze in quick succession.

You would disable them pretty rapidly, and if someone wants to save him, then good, now you take 2 or 3 more out of the fight to bring them back to camp. However knowing wildlings they would just let you freeze instead.
Oh my god, you fucking serious?
Not watching this any more, Tormund is ruined now.

Show [sp]One of them mention "We've already put 20 arrows in it" so that obviously didn't work. Plus there is barely any room for six men to move around in that tunnel. The giant would have fucked them up, just like he did.[/sp]

[sp]Guess I misheard that part about the arrows, but if there's not much room for six men, there shouldn't be much more room for the giant either. [/sp]
I've not been following this season, but I'm going to tune into the finale just to see how they can cram BOOK [sp]the arrival of Stannis at the wall, the deaths of Tywin and Shae, Tyrion's escape and Lady Stoneheart[/sp] in one episode.

[sp]hence why they all ended up dead on a pile, the giant ran down the tunnel colliding with them, there wasn't really any room for them to dodge[/sp]
gotta be honest ill kinda miss [sp]ygritte. she was a cool character, i wish her last lines were a little better[/sp]
[sp]no. that would have been cliched and bad. him talking to her before she died was bad enough[/sp]
I love how cold-hearted people seem to be regarding this, I think I might be the only one that actually cared.

viserys was the best looking of all the guys tho
Jaime was the best looking in the earliest episodes.
What is wrong with you people
Oberyn is objectively the sexiest person on the show.

[sp]You'd have to constantly heat every barrel with an open flame. It doesn't seem like there was much space for a fire on the platform that held them either. How many barrels did they show? 12 or something? That'd require 12 fires.[/sp]

[sp]nah, later when Jon checks on them they're shown laying near the giant, who is halfway through the hole in the middle gate[/sp]

SHOW[sp]Uh, so? The Wall is regularly covered with fires to heat up the guards. The Wall is 60% ice and 40% magic, I don't think 12 small fires are gonna break the thing in half[/sp]
Barrels are serious business it seems.
I'd say save that discussion until after the finale, because it's gonna be a looong year.
