Biggest disappointment was (Book spoilers) [sp]no Lady Stoneheart, by far. Second biggest was The Mountain not really getting what's coming to him. In the books, Oberyn kinda gets the last laugh since Gregor's death is incredibly long and painful. In the show it seems to just be, "YEP, HE GOT POISONED. LET'S FRANKENSTEIN HIM." Unless he goes through the pain in the next season, but that's not the order of the books. Also, no Jon Snow as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch?[/sp] [editline]15th June 2014[/editline] From a purely show perspective, still a pretty good finale.
you forgot about how BOOKSPOILERS [sp]There isn't a single thing about Tysha which is Tyrion's motivation like 100%. in the books he learns that she wasn't a whore and has a complete breakdown and kills both of them. in here he just murders people for shits.[/sp]
BOOK [sp]Great episode but they totally blew the Tywin/Shae death by not including the bit about Tysha. Why did they even bother mentioning her in the previous seasons?[/sp]

[sp]4 real?? Like how much would it have cost to write the paragraph of dialogue in which Jaime explains Tysha? It's grossly oversimplifying Tyrion's motivations, and not really giving him a good reason to go on his kinslaying revenge kick[/sp]
Some deviations from the book, but I thought it was a great episode. Game of Thrones is still the best goddamn show on TV.

Fucking shae. No wherever whores go, no She even fucked moonboy for all i know. no fucking stoneheart. I mean christ your battle at Castle Black was shiny and stuff but jesus you should've put stannis in there to have more time for the finale. Makes sense not to have Jon as LC of the NW this season. Can happen episode 2-3 and then have the political shit and EDD FETCH ME A BLOCK (hnnnng) but LSH is a massive end cliffhanger thing you cant slap it at the beginning[/sp]

Also pretty disappointing. Several of the aforementioned disappointments will, I'm sure, be rectified next season but I'm guessing that bit will be left out entirely, which is very unfortunate.
I mean I'm all from diverting from the books [sp] (Fuck reznak mo reznak sooooo much)[/sp] but for tyrion this is borderline character assassination. Like it literally ruins his whole drive
To be honest I didn't like that finale, some things just didn't make sense. For example [sp]the actual reason Brienne and The Hound fought eachother wasn't explained, they just suddenly drew swords[/sp] and [sp]Tyrion just randomly decided to kill people without any explanation given either.[/sp] Also, [sp]The Mountain cliffhanger was shit and we didn't get any good ones imo. Quite a lot of what we just saw is like early-mid season material.[/sp]
Anywhere I can watch the episode online? Currently in Japan and finding it impossible to find.
SHOW [sp]I'm excited to see fucking Ultra Mountain.[/sp]
show [sp]SUPER ULTRA GIGA MOUNTIAN 9000 great day for Tyrion to commit patricide. Im glad things are working out well for arya. And now, a moment of silence to remember our dear arsonphobic friend. Cleganebowl in hell, you beautiful burned bastard.[/sp]
I'm super fucking bummed about SHOW [sp]The Hound (probably) dying.[/sp] Now I don't really have a favorite character anymore.

Brienne wanted to out of her loyalty to Catelyn Stark, and the Hound did it because he felt nobody else could do so better than he. It was explicitly said on his part. And Tyrion killed Shae because she came back to testify against him in court, ensuring his sentencing, while Tywin was just him wanting to get back at him for shitting on him his whole life. [/sp] Not sure how none of that made sense, it all seemed pretty obvious.

Weren't you watching the screen and looking at what was happening?
So what happened in the book instead of the [sp]Brienne vs. Hound fight[/sp]?
I'm super fucking bummed about SHOW [sp]The Hound (probably) dying.[/sp] Now I don't really have a favorite character anymore.
SHOW [sp] we didn't see him die so he might still live OPTIMISTIC RAINBOWS RAINBOWS, he has the best dialogue in the entire show I cannot deal with him going away[/sp]
Honestly for me the best thing about S4 was Oberyn Martell. His character will definitely stick with me for the rest of this shows life-span. All the people who were worried and critical over him not being middle-eastern before this season aired really ate their words. He turned out to be absolutely perfect in the role and to make this character come to life so much in the amount of episodes this season had really shows the crazy talent Pedro Pascal has. He made the season just even more perfect. BOOK/SHOW [sp]So showing the Mountain lying on the table in ZERO pain instead of the thriving agony he was supposed to be in kind of belittled his character. Sure they pretty much confirmed Robert Strong but fuck, I wanted him to be screaming bloody murder and truely wishing for death. It's kind of made Oberyn's revenge obsolete.[/sp] As a book reader, I feel a little weirded about by the changes but not totally bummed out like some people. Sure I think they definitely made some mistakes SHOW/BOOK [sp]Tyrion had motivation to kill Tywin/Shae, because Jaime told him about Tysha. Seriously why even fucking mention is in S1 if you're not going to use it? It's probably the biggest character-defining moment for him and they just ignored it completely. He swore revenge on Jaime and I thought that would somehow place a huge part in the books, which now it feels like it won't. Jaime is by far my favourite character, but I feel they slightly butchered his redemption arc this season. The whole 'rape' thing was one thing, but fucking Cersei on the kings-guard table? Isn't this where he was extremely apprehensive about her making a move on him and where their relationship kinda starts falling apart? Plus, wasn't Tyrion supposed to tell Jaime that Cersei was fucking other guys? They even filmed scenes with her and Lancel, like what the fuck is the point in that needless shit if you're going to ignore it completely?! They should have had Stannis appear in episode 9 and not rushed the finale. Also, didn't Jaime force Varys to free Tyrion? So why have they made Varys go on the ship with Tyrion? Are they going to make Varys like a super assassin for his return later on, instead of the spider that he is? OH and don't get me started on the Lady Stoneheart non-reveal, they had the absolute PERFECT ending there. Really, nothing else would have compared. People would have shat their pants when they saw her slowly turn around. It would have made people BEG for season 5 now, the wait would have been insufferable. They dropped the ball on that one! But more importantly, WHAT THE FUCK WAS THE POINT IN HOT PIE MAKING THAT BREAD WHEN BRIENNE DIDNT EVEN SHOW IT?![/sp] But apart from that, I'm extremely happy with the season. They went above and beyond expectations in some situations, exactly like the Red Wedding. The Mountain vs The Viper fight will go down as the shows best fight sequence I feel. BOOK/SHOW [sp]with Brienne v Hound a very, VERY close second.[/sp]
SHOW [sp]LITERALLY EVERYONE GOT SCREWED THIS EPISODE, HOUND GOT DEAD, TYWIN GOT DEAD, ARYAS WAS LIKE A MILE AWAY FROM HER SISTER AND IS PROLLY NEVER GOING TO SEE HER AGAIN, TYRIONS OFF TO FREE CITIES WITH NOTHING, VARYS' WHOLE OPERATION IS NOW FUCKED, DANNY STILL CANNOT HANDLE THE CONSEQUENCES OF HER DECISIONS, FUCK.[/sp] SHOW [sp]EXCEPT STANNIS, STANNIS WON EVERYTHING FOREVER[/sp]
So what happened in the book instead of the [sp]Brienne vs. Hound fight[/sp]?
My dad read the books and said [sp]he fights instead with some random local bandit[/sp] or some shit.
So what happened in the book instead of the [sp]Brienne vs. Hound fight[/sp]?
book/show [sp] during the fight at the tavern the hound gets wounded, doesn't want to treat it because he's afraid of fire, and the infection eventually catches up to him [/sp]
I know it wasn't dialogue in the book but it would have been awesome if SHOW [sp]Tyrion did say something similar to this: "Lord Tywin Lannister did not, in the end, shit gold". Another thing that bothered me was that that there was no mention of Tysha from Jaime and Tywin calling her a whore, which would have been perfect since he finds out she wasn't a whore all along. Instead he calls Shae a whore, and he isn't exactly wrong about that. Shae never loved him, but it's strongly implied that Tysha did. Fuck that episode it ruined quite a few good things from the book, but I did think the Hound vs Brienne fight was a great addition.[/sp]
show: looks like we'll be seeing a lot more of [sp]essos[/sp] next season
I haven't watched the episode yet but I've read the books and apparently they fucked up on lots of stuff in the finale? is this true? [editline]16th June 2014[/editline] BOOK/ASOS [sp]Wait apparently they didn't say anything about Tysha and Tywin also didn't say his famous last words? and apparently no Stoneheart? damn that's really disappointing[/sp]
BOOK [sp]Haven't watched the finale yet, but did they leave LS out? How did they fuck up that badly? It would literally have been the best way to end the season.[/sp] Really fucking disappointed.
From a book reader point of view this episode was just eewww
I like this one better. Both brothers parting ways without any lingering animosity
I'm not a book reader, but this episode just felt rushed as heck. Maybe they shouldn't have given the stuff at the Wall an ENTIRE episode last week. I mean, I liked both episodes fine, but even with the expanded run time the story didn't feel like it had enough room to breathe to me.
Damn the more I'm reading up on how they screwed up this episode from a Book POV makes me want to watch it less and less. [editline]16th June 2014[/editline] BOOK [sp]I mean Stoneheart could've been the greatest cliffhanger on the show yet they showed Arya on a boat, what a tease that river shot that was[/sp] [editline]16th June 2014[/editline] BOOK [sp]Also wonder how they'll handle Arya changing her face[/sp]
Damn the more I'm reading up on how they screwed up this episode from a Book POV makes me want to watch it less and less.
I think you and people with a similar mindset are missing the point of the show. It's not a 1:1 recreation of the books, or even a retelling of them adjusted for a different type of media. This is basically GRRM's story reformed, under the big man's approval himself. There's no screwing up because very obviously they want to take the next season and onwards in a familiar but unique direction from the books. It's nothing but exciting, there's no reason to view it as a negative. Back to talking about last nights ep tho, [sp]happy fathers day[/sp]
