Game of Thrones version IV: Preface your spoilers with BOOK or SHOW
I think it's crazy that next season the show will overtake the book, or if not then, the season after it.
I mean, already we're past all of ASOS, and we have three seasons left for four books, two of which are unreleased, GRRM was even talking about an eighth book, so that'd be three unreleased.
That'd mean they're probably condensing AFFC and ADWD into one season, so season 6 and 7 will beat the books.
Pretty fucking crazy. I hope we get at least TWOW next year, so we just have one book to be spoiled.
If that happens I will seriously consider not watching anymore. I'd rather read the last bit of the story written by Martin himself than what D&D could come up with. I know they know the basic premise of the ending, but there'd be a million finer details they'd overlook.
Having books based on the show would be the worst. I really don't want that to happen. I love reading about something and seeing it come alive in film after, definitely not the other way around. My imagination would be extremely diminished then.
I kinda dislike how the show has really discredited Jaime's swordsman abilities.
Like, he's one of the best fighters in Westeros, but you don't really get that portrayed to you in the show, so it's hard to understand just how devastating losing his hand is to him. In the show it saw him:
go toe to toe evenly with Ned (who was only slightly-above-average from what I remember)
get taken captive by Robb (which they could have showed him being captured, pretty sure he was killing people left and right at that battle? Didn't it take like 7 men to get his sword?)
beaten by Brienne (sure he was in handcuffs and severely weakened, but my hazy memory seems to remember Brienne thinking he'd have won if he wasn't weakened/in chains)
Smacked about by Bronn (yeh, he lost his hand and it's showing him regaining his abilities, I get that)
We haven't really seen what the big fuss is about his fighting abilities. In the Ned fight particularly, I've had friends who thought Ned would have beaten him in the show if it wasn't for the Lannister guard stepping in. If you were a show-watcher, you'd think Oberyn would dismantle Jaime, where in reality I don't think you'd be able to tell who would win. Jaime said it himself, there's only 3 other men in the kingdom that could beat him. (Barristan, Dayne and .........)
Just a little nit-picky, Nikolaj Waldau-Coster is a fantastic Jaime though. He's that mixture of you want to hate him but he's so damn charming that you can't.
You've got to remember that all faceless men are OP in everything.
Also; It doesn't matter who's got the best sword skills. A noob with a crossbow can kill anyone.

I'm hoping they pick back up on the details in Jaime's story that was in the books instead of extending something in the show that should have begun ending episodes ago. Books [sp] I'm talking about his detachment and eventual loss of love for Cersei once he realizes how fucking crazy she is. [/sp]
However, excluding some characters that only appear in the latest books, Jaime is hands down my favorite in the series. Not as some hero or good-guy, but as probably one of the most human and intriguing of the cast as you watch and see if he's going to end up shifting one way or the other.

He's easily my favourite character. The season finale really worried me because BOOK/SHOW [sp]how the hell are they going to start his splitting away from Cersei? Tyrion telling him about Lancel and Osmund and Moonboy is what makes him start distancing himself from her. I think if the actor wasn't so likeable, they really could have fucked his entire story up with the 'rape scene' for show watchers.[/sp]
You never know whether to want him to win or not. From season 1, you thought he was a cunt. The second you learn about his past actions, he instantly becomes a hero in your eyes. Then he does something cuntish again. Seriously awesome character BOOK [sp] so they need to do his redemption arc properly this season![/sp]

[Show] [sp]TBH they did fuck his entire story up with the rape scene. kinda hard to be redeemed after forcing yourself on your sister[/sp]
[sp]the only hope is that he finds out about cersei's sleeping around some other way and he cuts her off then[/sp]
I'd put him above or equal to Oberyn
Thing is, Oberyn Martell would completely devestate any and all combatants there.
I understand that most point and say that they're skilled, but Oberyn has shown he's completely agile and untouchable when using a spear.

That was against the Mountain though. Who, although quick, isn't as quick as others. Jaime v Oberyn would probably come down to the wire for example. Arthur Dayne would have beaten anyone IMO
If he hadn't been matched up against the mountain Oberyn would probably have been a lot less about showing off and a lot more about just sticking his spear deep into the enemy's chest cavity and then leave him to die because his spear is coated in like 5 different times of flesh-eating poison.
Oberyn's crazy skilled, he's just too cocky.

Well of course no one would have truly won against the motherfucking Sword of the Morning. Books [sp] Going to have to blame Howland Reed for that one. [/sp]
Everyone who remembers Arthur Dayne recalls him as the finest knight ever seen next to Rhaegar and everyone had nothing less but absolute respect for the man. He was also considered the deadliest of the Kingsguard around that time (yes, even above/on par with Barristan). It would have been cool for a bit of prequel events/flashbacks with GoT just so there was an excuse to see Dayne use Dawn like a badass. For people who are needing a reference on this guy's skill he was the one who knighted and taught Jaime Lannister.

Here's hoping for a Robert's Rebellion tv show once GoT is over!

I wish they had more unique armor sets in the GoT. The books describe the many knights before the war to have more fancy and awesome-looking armor (wasn't there a description of Viserys' own armor set?), like a fantasy setting. Like, yes it's important to see an actor's face in a show, but I wanna see something that's super badass for some fight scenes:

Minus the silly demonic arm, sword, and slightly more moderate and human-fitting, I could totally see Rhaegar Targaryen in something similar.

Like, look at Robert in this pic. That is what I want. Knightish, but super fucking awesome!

I have always preferred this picture, when it comes to Bobby B in his prime:

He wasn't a random dude, that was Apollo Creed!
I'm a sucker for that realistic style. Forgot the artist, though.
Edit: failed automerge
Y'all forgeting Karl Tanner the fockin' legend
what about drago? he was pretty great fighter especially how he owned that random dude
Khal Drogo wouldn't last a solitary minute against most of the fighters in westeros because they all wear armor. As demonstrated by Jorah Mormont and Syrio, no matter how good you are, if your weapon's shit and you wear no armor against an opponent with full plate, you're fucking dead.
what about drago? he was pretty great fighter especially how he owned that random dude
Drogo is pretty badass, but equipment is pretty important. That's like a duel between a guy with just a sword and a guy with just a gun.
was it just me or have dany's dragons gotten smaller as the season's gone on? [sp]after they incinerated that lil girl when she locked them up vs when that one incinerated those sheeps on the hill, and when she was about to do up mereen when jorah said "u can't tame that shit"[/sp]

Show [sp]Drogon is the one that's fucking everything up and he's way bigger. Viserion and Rhaegal are the ones that are kept inside, while Drogon is basically out of her control by now.[/sp]
I keep thinking that george envisioned game of thrones like... Well, If it wasn't magic, It'd be realistic. Very realistic. So like I see the show and as cool as they may seem my inner critic goes off at (show spoilers[/sp]
Factions all wearing uniform armour. That stuff didn't happen In the middle adges. You bought your own armour. Lanisters wouldn't all be wearing the exact same plate armour as eachother, they'd probably wear something cheap like leather or scale if they could aford it, what'd tell them apart is sigils and surcoats and stuff like that.
S2 [sp] Telleporting/clone assassins. If you can do that, danny wouldn't last seconds[/sp]
s4... [sp] Dario kills a horse with a knife throw. I'm fairly sure Martin gave a knife throw scene to arya in the books just to show how silly throwing knives are[/sp]
S4 [sp] Ranger ambush tactics: Dumbly charge forward at trained men with swords, rather than shoot them with bows before they can grab their weapons. [/sp]
S4 E9 [sp] Use of fire arrows so that you can see the arrows. Looks cool, wouldn't happen [/sp]
S4 E9 [sp] Every single defense used at the top of the wall. Sure it all looks cool, but absolutely No wildling would climb the wall with crows directly above. The survival rate would be literally 0. Half the wildlings would just fall. Most of the ones who don't would be easy targets. The ones who get to the top would be too tired to fight. That anchor thing, cool as it may be, is the most impractical defense ever[/sp]
S4 E9 [sp] The nights watch have explosives. [/sp]
S4 E9 [sp] Giant archery sniping skillshot[/sp]
S4 E9 [sp] Ignore castle black's fortified walls, let's have a lopsided fight in the courtyard between untrained wildlings (winning) and well trained brothers of the nights watch (get dominated) [/sp]
Oh and the fact that arya was introduced in episode 1 as a master archer (who could have killed bran with such a risky shot) and yet [sp]she trades her gendry romcom in the books with a fucking archery lesson[/sp] will annoy me as much as the absence of [sp]strong bewlas and his actually decent mereen champion fight.[/sp]
I am most overly attached to the books and martin's masterpiece. There's a fantastic winds of winter [sp] arya[/sp] chapter up (best book POV character) on an official website. wondering if there were previous early release chapters i missed out on.

YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH BADGES TO TRAIN ME!
Game of thrones' entire Daenerys story arc is actually a very elaborate pokemon metaphor.

To be fair, I think this is an acceptable break from reality. It makes it very easy to quickly identify what faction somebody belongs to, which is especially important when dealing with minor characters and action shots where a sigil wouldn't be immediately visible or easily recognisable.
