Game of Thrones version IV: Preface your spoilers with BOOK or SHOW

I wish I loved the books as much as I love the show, but they are just not very well written IMO. I am still forcing myself through them because I don't want to wait for the show, but it's not that great a time. These are books that are like 1000 pages long but would be three or four hundred pages shorter minimum if he had a better editor. Too bad he hates editors so everything's all bloated and from what I've heard it only gets worse the more the books go on.
If you're reading the books for the first time, don't skip chapters, Yeah some are boring as shit, but do it once just so you know.
or just read it tbh, the books are really cool and delve more into the thoughts of the characters, some of the wikis are sometimes missing info
Books first, then wiki in case you missed anything

I'd agree that the show is pure good stuff, relative to the books there's no filler or wasted time. I'd say the books peak with 3, after that the books aren't that good again(so far).
But still there's a lot of good stuff to be found if you read the books, stuff you'll never get from the tv show. I think it's worth the effort. To me it's like watching the entire sporting event vs only watching the highlights. The highlights are most of the best parts, but watching the whole event is the only way you'll know what really happened and how it really happened.
Book 5 best book.
I cant be the only one who likes Feast alot surely. Storms is the best but TWOW looks like it will blow it out of the water.
I just binge watched all 4 seasons of the show in the last week.
I don't know why I put off watching it for so long, it was great.

If it takes the AFFC/ADWD route of just cancelling all possible plots anticlimactically, then it'll be the worst though.
"Oh hey, this guy looks promi-oh shit he was just killed. Oh, well this storyline is interes-no wait, it's boring."
Everyone dies for a reason.
[sp] ned stark still alive? Kings landing is a nicer and far less interesting place. Also stanis is king, the iron throne is secure and dany has no hope of beating a unified country. [/sp]
[sp] Rob stark dies? Yeah, he was promising, but again; self harming kingdoms are great to write about. Stable ones are boring. If he'd secured the iron throne, the riverlands or at least the north; Arya would be home safely and not doing crazy psycho shit that keeps me so invested in her. Theon wouldn't be reek.[/sp]
The story would be shit if nobody died.
Mods; Could we un-criminalise unspoilered plot points from season 1-3/4 of the show?
how about no, cause only two posts above you is someone who only recently got into the series
if they hadn't binged the whole thing, you would have just spoiled a bunch of shit for them

Everyone that dies also did a mistake that leads him to die. As much as the fans like to go "lol grrm kills everyone", no one falls over and breaks his neck.

Why read a thread about game of thrones in 2014 if you are watching a season from 2012, go read the 2012 thread.

Pretty sure in the book Arya overhears a conversation where a dude totally says "yeah he fell off the battlements and broke his neck"

BOOK [sp]Balon Greyjoy.[/sp]
[sp]Though he did make the mistake of making an enemy of Stannis the Mannis[/sp]
Can't tell if disagrees are for "everyone dies for a reason" or "can we uncriminalize early spoilers"
Maybe I'm just insensitive because my favourite characters are still alive [sp]Arya,Tyrion, Strong bewlas* [/sp]
*not in tv series

BOOK [sp] So you really believe Euron sailing back to the Iron Islands days after Balon died was coincidence? Someone pushed Balon off the bridge, dude. [/sp]

It was even said it was suspicious in the books by [sp]Balon's daughter[/sp] :v:

In my defense I couldn't really bring myself to read the Iron Island chapters, something about them didn't tickle my fancy.
honestly after reading the books (just finished ACOK) and going back to the show a bit, I don't like it nearly as much. the books are just so much better since it shows the characters' thoughts, and so much more other intricacies that are ignored in the show
for example, Stannis is just a douchebag in the show, and the battle of blackwater is so short and changed a lot (thought that explosion was cool)
I prefer the books because you get all the little details that no normal person cares about. Hell yeah I want to read exposition on what happened to Ser Donnel Locke, and you bet I want to know how many men Medger Cerwyn led to the Green Fork
Because of the format, and the fact that it's actually very uninteresting, you don't get that in the show
It also helps that in the books 14 year olds finger bang eachother.
I just realized, if the mountain can wield a greatsword with one hand, why doesn't he make like, a mountain-sized greatsword. He doesn't use a shield, so why not?
Imagine the reach on that thing. I did some rough math, and you're looking at around 7 1/2 feet of steel.
The guy values speed. Also you carry weapons a lot more than you use them. Convenience.

well he's a general. It's not like he has to drag all of his shit to the battlefield himself, he can have some guys load all of it onto a cart. Just has to gear up and drag it to battle when it happens. And besides, it's not like any knights travel around the countryside in full plate armor carrying their weapons on their back. Look at the Hound, all he had on was some light padded armor on his torso and a bit on his legs and arms. In the battle of blackwater he had some bulky shoulderpads on and a bit more armor than usual, along with his dog helmet.
Gregor isn't a general.
Gregor isn't a general.
He's still a knight that has men under him, men that he leads with fear, so he could just take a random guy in his army and be like "carry this stuff or I'll hit you".
Gregor isn't a general.
uh yeah he kind of is, he's the head of house clegane and its properties and vassals, and commands them in wartime under the service of house lannister
