lord =/= general
well lord = commanding officer of his vassals, general in a sense
It was even said it was suspicious in the books by [sp]Balon's daughter[/sp] :v:
It's been a while since I read the books I must have just forgotten.
I liked the books portrayal of the Brotherhood Without Banners better. I'm suprised more people aren't pointing out they sold Gendry ( a potential brother) to Melisadre knowing full well she might burn him alive.
The guy values speed. Also you carry weapons a lot more than you use them. Convenience.
If the guy values speed he'd use two longswords as daggers. Or go the oberyn route and use a spear. The greatersword has such a great reach that it'd be longer than the reach of oberyns spear. He could put enough force behind it to kill 2 men in a single blow while still far away from any of his opponents.
oh my god imagine the mountain with a huge valyrian steel halberd
imagine the mountain with an appropriately sized two-handed warhammer it'd be like sauron when he maces all those gondorians
*snort* I'll have you know those were Arnorians that Sauron fought
oh my god imagine the mountain with a huge valyrian steel halberd
He can just keep spinning and spinning. One man army.
Imagine The Mountain with a minigun. Would crush Stannis' forces
But you've gotta remember than a claymore of spear wouldn't be great if the enemy got in realy close or from behind or attacked him in the confines of an interior. And the mountain's favourite defence is his silly thick armour that only he could wear(in the book the guy is like eight foot tall. The latest mountain actor could have also pulled such armour off) Using claymores and spears in such heavy armour would just be awkward. It's a dirk/greatsword used as a one handed sword/ occasional lance for him. Not that he needs weapons to kill people. The guy could probably fight against well equiped and trained knights in just his armour and still win. I'm fairly sure he just uses weapons because they're slightly easier.
For some reason Gregor Clegane reminds me of Axe from Dota 2. Big dumb idiot with a stupid weapon that's strong enough to just mow down everything without any problem. Now if only The Mountain was known as The Claymore instead.
he should just swing around a mountain
Book 1, near the end: [sp]Arya seems to be going a little insane, with those voices in her head. Also what's with all the lemon cakes that appear everywhere?[/sp]
He doesn't seem that dumb to me though
Axe is a dumbass calling himself by his weapon who murders entire armies for fun and the mountain is a murderous autistic dumbass who kills babies for fun.
The mountain isn't autistic. Nor does he kill babies for fun. He's an eternally pissed of psycho who's looking for something to relieve his frustration, but he isn't stupid. Rape and murder? Fine. The fact that he killed a few babies is there, but he doesn't go out of his way to kill babies.
The mountain isn't autistic. Nor does he kill babies for fun. See the part where, as a teenager, he gets mad at Sandor for playing with his toys.
That's more of a control freak/power thing there. He can lead troops into battle.... He might not be intellegent, but he's somewhat competent.
did you just say the rape and murder was fine
Rape and murder is an essential part of westrosi culture.
That's more of a control freak/power thing there. He can lead troops into battle.... He might not be intellegent, but he's somewhat competent.
The thing to take away from that is that a teenage Gregor Clegane was playing with toys meant for toddlers.
Imagine The Mountain with a minigun. Would crush Stannis' forces
fallout mod anyone? replace the super mutants with mountains.
Gregor Clegane is basically what Marv from Sin City would have been if Marv had been born in the middle ages. Hell, that's even how Dwight describes Marv; a guy born in the wrong time period.
The mountain isn't autistic. Nor does he kill babies for fun. He's an eternally pissed of psycho who's looking for something to relieve his frustration, but he isn't stupid. He tried to kill Loras Tyrell in front of a large crowd of people because he beat him in a jousting competition.
The thing to take away from that is that a teenage Gregor Clegane was playing with toys meant for toddlers.
It wasn't that he was using it - the Hound even said that clegane never played with the toy. It was that it was HIS. he saw someone take something that was his and he got pissed off. The Mountain is a murderous psychopath who has no regard for human life. It's not that he's a retarded manbaby, he just isn't a brilliant tactician. I'd say he's about the same intelligence level as Jaime, just minus any regard for human life and plus a shitload of anger management issues.
we know he's quick to anger, and when he's angry, he doesn't give a fuck about rules. so clearly he's got an anger issue. we also know he's possessive and territorial but, he can hold himself back for his employer's sake, and for the sake of his title, position, lands, and payment. so clearly he has some understanding of hierarchical power and is smart enough to not put himself in jeopardy. and fortunately, his employers A) don't want to lose him, and B) encourage his brutality. he's a lord, and commander of many vassals and soldiers. he does not have the kind of brain for tactics, so i'm thinking there must be a warden, or assistant, or somebody in house Clegane, or under its banner, who manages its affairs, advises the troops, and coordinates everything the Mountain doesn't have time for. i think the Mountain is of slightly-below-average intelligence, probably a result of little schooling and behavioral issues, and gets by in the world because someone powerful happens to appreciate his bloodlust and complete lack of empathy, and covers his shit so that he is free to be awful on and off the battlefield.
i think they should have stuck with one actor
