They point is, White Walkers have a magical look to them when magic in the present day of the novel is borderline myth. I'm fairly certain it has a point in being so.
look at this mythic magical motherfucker
Oh god damnit, I just noticed they took this week off. Must be because [sp]the Red Wedding[/sp] is next week and they want to make us wait longer for it.

What are you talking about? Its just you. We're all watching it and its great so far
They're magical creatures. They aren't suppose to be believable, they're fantasy.
GoT ain't some generic 90s Tir Na Nog bullshit.
If GRRM wanted it to be ~fantasy~ he would have fairies and rainbows and puff the magic dragon helping kids go on adventures BUT this is GoT and its supposed to be like real life just somewhere else.

No its because there is a thing called a holiday and this weekend is one.
A Song of Ice and Fire is a fantasy series.
A Song of Ice and Fire is a fantasy series.
Clearly it is science fiction
I don't define fantasy the same way as you then.
Fantasy to me is campy Tolkien hobbits blowing eachother bullshit
Fantasy is for children
GoT really is its own genre or apart of another genre entirely. Fantasy by definition steers clear of the dark and macabre. GoT is in the same boat as Warhammer. Not Tir Na Nog and Lord of The Rings.
Fantasy is a genre that uses the supernatural in it. That's the definition.
Being lighthearted or not is not relevant to whether it is fantasy or not. If that were so, then Harry Turtledove's Darkness Series is not fantasy due to its violence and pessimistic warfare, despite clearly being so.

Not to mention the books have won various fantasy literature awards.
No sir, a fiction that uses supernatural in it is SUPERNATURAL FICTION
If you are to compare ASOIF with the themes, motifs, and general patterns found throughout almost every fantastical piece of literature you will find that only two or three of them are shared traits. ASOIF is too different from a "fantasy" - which requires a bildungsroman and good vs. evil morality. ASOIF doesn't even have the two base features of a fantasy novel. If anything its an alternate timeline kind of shit.

Which is...fantasy. You can't be this dumb, really?

If you actually knew what Supernatural Fiction was then you wouldn't be hurling the insults you fucker.
Supernatural fiction is a real genre - defined by its inclusion of the cartesian dichotomy or other counter materialist ideas. Hence supernatural. Supernatural fiction eliminates elements from horror and fantasy.
Examples of Supernatural fiction include Twilight, Harry Potter, Supernatural (the TV series), etc...
Supernatural Fiction =!= Fantasy.
Don't assume you know shit.

I'm just going to go back to your original example of fantasy: Tolkien hobbits blowing each other.
Tolkien's world has dragons and ghosts/spirits and magic. So does Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones even has midgets blowing each other too.
Tolkien = Fantasy
Tolkien = ASOIAF
ASOIAF= Fantasy
It's time for you to stop posting

You say that like I give a fuck.
Oh no, I said something different about harry potter, my nerd glands are flaring with rage
You should follow Polly's approach and use logic and reason to prove me wrong instead of just saying "NUH UH YOU'RE WRONG"
Last little bit, using 3 of what's probably the most authoritative sources available:

I think Harry Potter is a shit series but I'm smart enough to recognize what genre it is.
game of thrones is a documentary

Criticizing my intelligence eh?
Oh god no I can't have an opinion and some information to back it up, based on the fact that ASOIF fits into subgeneres of fantasy more than it fits into fantasy
Fuck you and your entire family, you cunt muscle

hey anyone know some good books like ASOIAF
hey anyone know some good books like ASOIAF
I enjoyed Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. Not exactly near ASOIAF but it's more close than other books in my opinion.

but they haven't even appeared in the books

90% of CG budget went to dragons, no mammoths, ice bears, ice spiders, anything interesting will ever be seen on TV
but they haven't even appeared in the books
Suspicions from b5: [sp]With most of the warm bodies gone near the Wall or beyond it the Others have no one to slow them down between the far north and the Wall. The main force of the Others probably will move toward the Wall in b6 hence calling it the Winds of Winter. Giant ice spiders are probably with them, but this is all just speculating.[/sp]
I, for one, would actually like to see White Walkers in the TV show using armor and weapons, as well as actual formations and tactics
It would be a better gauge of their intelligence instead of showing the audience how they arrange dead bodies
Right now they just look like snowy cave people. The fucking wildlings look more advanced than they do.

Well, it looks like GoT tbh. In Season 3 [sp]We had Arya who's a little girl, in the forest with what's her best friend (Gendry being the teddy bear) and some scary people (the Brotherhood and Melisandre, who is conveniently a redhead, which matches the mouse and the girl's hair)[/sp]
Also, Sword of Truth is nearly 7,000 pages of stuff so if one has time to burn then read it.
So a couple pages back a guy told me that dany wasnt a mary sue... here we go...
